Alex | 1 comments Hi

Read this book about 10-12 years ago as a hardback. Dont remember much, but the distinctive things I remember are:

- Its set in a human civilization that has expanded through space in the future. It is fairly tech based. Not many aliens.

- Its basically a guy meets girl story to begin with, but something goes wrong and they dont end up together. Guy is the main character. At the end of the book he goes back in time to fix this and be with her, as she was his one true love etc

- At the end of the book he goes back in time with the aid of an super advanced creature, who's species lived circling a sun (kind of dragon look). The creature had been injured or something on a fronteir planet of the space civ, and the main character found it and helps it, with advanced technology given to him by the creature.

- The "perspective" of the story (after the initial boy meets girl bit) follows a detective whos investigating a rogue element who somehow seems to have super advanced tech . This turns out to be the main character, who is disrupting things trying to help this alien.

Thats about what I remember, some parts may not be completely right. The really distinctive part is the time travel at the end, and the main advanced aliens (ie creature he finds), live in space circling a sun and look dragon like

Thanks for any help!

Aerulan | 1317 comments There are a couple listopia lists for Scifi detective books
Science Fiction Detective Novels

Best Offbeat Detective Novel Genre Mashups

Best Science Fiction Detective Books

You could take a look and see if your book is on any of those lists.

Oops, that's what I get for posting at night and not checking the links, thanks for the heads up.

And thank you Kris for finding the lists and posting the links correctly!

Alex hasn't answered, so we don't know whether it is or isn't.

That's odd. Never mind me then.

Just a guideline that helps all of us solve unknown titles:
Please do NOT delete your comments. It leaves a gap in the record, a gap which might contain some detail[s] that could help someone recognize the book.
This is not just for Alex, but for all of us. Alex, don't take it too personally. This is merely an opportunity to remind all of us.

[Of course, if it was crude or rude, then delete it.]
