How are you, Marybeth? Is this our first buddy read together?

So I have the Kindle version and it doesn't show the page numbers, but there are 14 chapters. How about we read and post after chapters 5, 10 and 14 unless of course there are other times you have something you want/need to say? LOL I'm very open!

If you, however, prefer a schedule of reading so many chapters a day and report on those, I am flexible. I always have plenty to read!

I just saw your post Vicki, Sorry it took me so long to respond back. I started work this week and things have been a little hectic. We can post after those chapters. i have read a little bit of it this week and am hoping to get some more done this weekend before school starts on Monday. :)

White(view spoiler)[ Wow, she's got a temper. I can't say I like her much. she flies off the handle WAAAY to easy, she's mean when she gets mad and is completely reckless with everyone's safety - including her own. she's probably better off heading out. she was definitely going to get re-educated at the level she was at (hide spoiler)]

interesting(view spoiler)[ I wondered when someone mentioned dirt ceilings. nice twist that they are small. I hadn't anticipated that (hide spoiler)]

Kes(view spoiler)[ I figured he was the boy with words when he kept mentioning poetry class. He's interesting and I like that he isn't trying to hurt or take her. I'm definitely sure that wouldn't be true of everyone (hide spoiler)]

Research(view spoiler)[ I find the backstory interesting too. a research facility that did illegal experiments. that sounds about right lol (hide spoiler)]

Kes(view spoiler)[ I'm so sad Salt separated them. I assume, in the next book, she defies him and goes out....possibly for good (hide spoiler)]

but(view spoiler)[ I do think the romance angle - I'm glad it was on White's side - because I think that makes it more realistic. I agree with Kes - White saw him as a god/creator....not necessarily who he really is (or how infeasible anything could be between them) (hide spoiler)]

Salt(view spoiler)[ I see his intentions but he's the one that started all of this. I think he was pretty much a jerk in the end (hide spoiler)]

Finally I am 5 chapters in! LOL

Shade (view spoiler)[ was quite a shock when he died! I was SO not expecting that to happen, especially so soon in the book. I really sad for White, too, especially since he was her only family and seemingly her only hope for finding answers to her questions. I think maybe he got found for bringing her words. I'm not so sure the attack was from anything other than Copper's orders. (hide spoiler)]

Salt (view spoiler)[ I agree that he probably got himself into danger by providing White with some info. I think he is on the up and up. I don't think he is spying or anything. (hide spoiler)]

White (view spoiler)[ I have to agree...short temper and flies off the handle way too easily. I'm wondering what the red arrow is that's "pointing to guide" her. I hope it isn't some type of trap. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 10

Kes (view spoiler)[ is adorable. I love him. I feel like he's an alien or giant, which I guess he is to White. He seems lonely or maybe he's just super curious due to her size. But I hope she begins to trust him more. (hide spoiler)]

White (view spoiler)[ is understandably distrustful of Kes, but he's only showed her kindness and tried to help her learn about the Outside and rain and so forth. I love how innocent she is and I love the wonder at which she is finding out about life and nature. I guess I'd be scared too if I were only 6 inches tall and heard about a shrink project. LOL Their conversations have made me laugh and also experience pleasure of White's natural curiosity and Kes's desire to answer her even though it's not always easy to explain things, especially when she has little to no reference to what he's talking about. Research (view spoiler)[ that sounds like it's been done is so awful. WHY do some people feel they have the right to play mad scientist on other human beings? I hope this all comes together for White and other shrunk people, or the Forgotten Ones. (hide spoiler)]

And I am done too and so sad! I think I am a total optimist and romantic at heart. LOL

Kes (view spoiler)[ was probably my favorite character, like a gentle giant who literally was opening up a whole new world to White. I loved how he wanted so much just to be with her and have someone new to be with, talk with, and experience the wonders of her firsts of seeing the blue skies and feeling rain and seeing colors. What a gift he gave her! (hide spoiler)]

White (view spoiler)[ I just felt so bad for her when she went to please Kes by her new outfit and didn't get the response she wanted. As you said, Kes and White being together doesn't seem feasible, but somehow I think there will be a way. I just don't know what that is. (hide spoiler)]

Salt (view spoiler)[ totally ticked me off the way he treated White when he found her with Kes. I wonder if all the Chosen Ones are truly only being protective or if, as in his case, they might use their knowledge and others' lack of knowledge to somehow control them. I thought it was completely unfair for him to make her promise never to see Kes or even any part of the real world again, at least until (and IF) she is also a Chosen One. I think part of why he did that was to keep her to himself. (hide spoiler)]
