Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
I can't remember...did we meet any of the characters in the prologue in the previous book. Who is this "foreign god"?
Malachi is still amnesiac - if I remember correctly that is how the the last book ended - an amnesiac Malachi regaining consciousness.
"Vashama canem. She said, 'Come back to me'".
All the color drained from Rhy's face. "Heaven Above". - I think Ava did something she wasn't supposed to be capable of doing.
We're going to meet the infamous Sari - hopefully she'll cut poor Damien a break.

I'm not sure if the foreign god is a god or another angel.
We have 3, possibly 5 angels:
Joron - Whom Ava knows (I think he was the foreign doctor she'd gone to see in The Scribe)
Barak - Not sure of who he is. Is he supposed to be thought dead?
Vasu - Not sure who he is either
Galal - Is he the one they referred to as a foreign god? He attacked Barak's children?
Volund - Is he another angel?
"She is a means to an end that is all." sounds ominious. A means to what end? Redemption?
Bringing back the dead does have a sort of sinister feel to it. Pet cemetery comes to mind.
I still don't understand how Sari could hold a grudge for hundreds of years.
I wonder if Malachi will remember everything eventually?

Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
Sari and Damien have the epitome of a "kiss with a fist" relationship.
"We would never leave them unprotected."
A low anger began to smolder in her gut. - I don't think Ava or the Irina have the right to be angry. Why are the Scribes being punished for not being all-knowing? If the ladies had really been interested in learning offensive magic they could have. Based on Damian's grandmother's comments it seemed the ladies chose to look down on the men for being fighters. The men need to stop putting up with the guilt trip and tell the ladies to pull their heads out of their rumps.
Malachi came back without his tattoos? That's quite a power loss.
"There are still those who want us silent. And that is something we will not be." - I'm not sure how isolating yourself to the point on non-existence to the outside world correlates with not remaining silent.
"For some reason, Rhy's knowledge of his habits irked him. Why did this stranger know more about him than he did?" - That would be incredibly frustrating.
"Things are still very fresh for us."
"But the Rending was two hundred years ago." - Exactly! I think the two genders need to stop being martyrs and have some clear communication with each other. Leave the political jerks in Vienna and come up with a solution because all I'm seeing is people acting like martyrs for no reason.

Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
Are the human Irina being caused by recessive genes? Powers that show up in later generations?
"That's because we all know she'd be far less...cranky if they reconciled." - Yes, Sari, bow to the will of your people!
I like Bruno. He's adorable for a badass warrior.
Loving Orsala - finally, a sane, adaptable woman.
"The fact that Brooke, the twelve-year old who looked like a fairy princess, was her training partner was just another blow to her ego." - It's always embarrassing when kids show you up.
"Mr Cranky is gonna get some..." - It's been over 200 hundred years of course Damian is excited.
"She tore the fabric of heaven with her magic, brother." - That doesn't seem like it would be a good thing. I'm pretty sure God doesn't what anyone messing with the prime real estate.
"It probably also helped that Sari and Damien appear to have reconciled." - Finally!

Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
"I had hoped...You look nothing like your mother. But your voice reminds me of her." - Well, that throws doubt on the Lena is Ava's biological mother theory.
The book felt like a placeholder. The plot didn't really progress though we received several hints about the Fallen's nefarious plans.
The epilogue was the most intriguing part. Is Jaron the father of Ava, the main heroine or the Ava in the asylum. What broke Asylum Ava's mind?

Thoughts on Chapters 2 - 6
Something is up with Ava and I still think we're going to be shocked by what she is. I say she's either something that shouldn't have been possible to create (perhaps a human/grigori creation or a grigori/singer male descendant mated with a human creation or maybe a fallen/singer male descendant mated with a human). It makes me question the title. Is The Singer appropriate? Even her abilities--she raised the dead--seem extra ordinary. If it was possible I can't imagine other Irina not having done it before.
The missing tattoos do make me wonder how vulnerable Malachi now is.
I agree, the Singers and Ava have no right to hold a grudge or be angry for so long. I think Sari, however, may just have been waiting for women's lib to take affect. No idea why they'd be mad for so long.
What exactly do the singers do besides hide and kill the enemy? I was hoping this book would explore that, but I'm beginning to wonder. All we know is from this quote, "Before they left, they divided their magic. To their sons, they gave the gift and power of the written word. To their daughters, the songs of the ancients, along with gifts of healing, foresight, and discernment.”

I think this dream walking or whatever it's called is somewhat backfiring where Sari and Damien are concerned. Something tells me they'd have gotten back together much sooner if they couldn't do it.
So here's the meat of it:
“There were twenty-one cardinal angels who fell to the earth from above. Twenty-one who defied the creator and took humans as mates. Had children. Many of them. Seven returned. Seven were killed. Seven remained. Others followed them, but they were the first. The seven who returned, we call the Forgiven. They are the fathers of the Irin race.”
1) Uriel = gift of extended life
2) Gabriel = Irina's gift of hearing the souls
3) Chamuel = empathy & influence
4) Rafael = healing & ability to read objects
5) Gabriel = Irina's gift for strategy
6) Ariel = elemental magic
7) Leoc = visions & prophecy
"The stories say that before they returned to heaven, the seven cardinal Forgiven chose seven scribes and seven singers to guide their children."
From all that we've heard, there are presently no Irina on the council. Hmmmm.... Interesting. Why? Perhaps more importantly, what happened to them? Could Ava's mother have been one of them?
I also like Bruno.
Yay for the reconciliation. Sari knows how to hold a grudge.

Who is the insane Ava? Could she be one of the Singers? It sounds like after the rending the records of where they went disappeared. Are they all accounted for? I wonder what would cause a singer to go mad besides the voices? Could they have taken her as a child?
Interesting statements, but what is she? If she's just an average run of the mill Singer, I'll be upset:
“For though the woman is his, she is also mine.”
“She is something you would not wish to harm.”
“She is under my protection,” the angel said. “You will not harm her.”
How can she be both fallen angel's? Did they father her? (Okay, getting bad thoughts as to why they'd both claim her)
I agree, not much revealed in this book. We really don't know anything more and Malachi is Malachi again. I had hoped perhaps he'd be different.
Ava and Rhys both insist Malachi no longer knows Ava and therefore doesn't love her. Just loves his mate. What? You asked the man to come back and were mad he didn't come back. Then you're upset that he does? So much for soul mates. I'm a little ticked off at Ava at the moment.

The epilogue was the most intriguing part. I have many questions but it does guarantee I'll be back for the third installment.
I spent most of the book wanting to knock the Irin and Irina's heads together and then force them to sit down and communicate. Also, they need to stage a rebellion against the council. As far as I can tell. the council does nothing but sit around and spend money.
I wish we had more hints as to the bad guys' plans. What happened to the time-honored tradition of the monologue? Followed, of course, by the evil laugh.

Did you read The Scribe?

When you've lost everything you love, how do you fight the darkness?
Ava left Istanbul with a new identity, new name, and new magic she could barely control. Laid low by Malachi's sacrifice, she searches for help from the fabled Irina. But will the secretive women of the Irin race welcome or shun her? Ava's origins are still a mystery, and her powers are darker than any they've encountered before.
The Irin world hangs in the balance. And as the children of angels battle their own demons, ancient rivalries among the Fallen threaten to wreak havoc on earth.
Thousand of miles away, a warrior wakes with no memory of his identity or his people. Stumbling though the dark and twisted schemes of fallen angels, ravenous Grigori, and even his own leaders, he must find a way back to the one thing he remembers. A single voice calls him. Malachi has one mission.
"Come back to me."
