SOLVED. Vampire novel with an anime-style cover [s]

I'm looking for a novel I read in high school, so it is probably around ten to fifteen years old. Maybe a little older, since I purchased it second hand.

(view spoiler)[ A female scientist stumbles across a female vampire. They sort of become friends, and the vampire is a warrior. There are flashbacks in the novel, including the history of the female vampire, where it is discovered that she was brought up male to keep her safe during the time period, which turns out to be around the dark ages.

One thing I remember is that the vampires in the novel don't have fangs; they have very, very sharp teeth instead and they have second eyelids like a shark (so when they bite and attack their eyes do not get damaged).

This sounds a lot like a Blood: the last vampire book, but I don't think any of the light novels released in the west match it. Anime-style covers are pretty uncommon.

No, it wasn't a Blood: The Last Vampire light novel, unfortunately. My life would be a lot easier if it had been! Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I found the novel myself! Thanks to those who posted. The novel is part of a series based off of a comic book, "Blood Legacy."
