Diane U (djuseless) I came across this blog posting while exploring Pinterest and it interested me.

I loved The Hunger Games and Divergent series!!! I love a strong female character, the dystopian society, fantasy type worlds and situations. Based on that, which of these series would you HIGHLY recommend? And why? Do you have any other recommendations that did not make this list?

I typically read Amish fiction, Christian fiction and even historical fiction but I have enjoyed this different genre in the past. There are just so many serieses out there that I don't know where to begin.

Thanks in advance for you help and suggestions!

Hi, Diane! Thanks for joining our little group, by the way! ^-^

There are several good books that were listed on your link. The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver is one of my all-time favorite dystopians - definitely worth a read! The Mortal Instruments (and the prequel series The Infernal Devices - which I'm finishing up right now) are also excellent, though they're more urban fantasy/YA than dystopian. I would also recommend Wither, by Lauren DeStefano. =)

Diane U (djuseless) I was hoping you would chime in Brittany! Since we have the same background in other reading genres, I think I would agree with your answers.

Should I read the Infernal Devices series before Mortal Instruments?

I read The Mortal Instruments series before I read The Infernal Devices, but I know of some people who read the prequel series first and enjoyed it just as much. I, personally, would read Mortal Instruments first, because I feel it gave a better understanding into the fantasy world. In other words, I didn't feel like I was just flung into the story without any explanation.

Also, the last book in the Mortal Instruments series - City of Heavenly Fire - releases next month! So, you won't have to wait forever for another book to come out! XD

Diane U (djuseless) Does anyone have any input about The Selection by Kiera Cass? This one grabbed my interested right away!

I read the first one, but haven't gotten to the second. I thought the plot was pretty predictable and the MC is kinda annoying, but it was readable. I don't know if I'll pick up the second one.

But that's just my opinion, obviously. I know of many people who've read it and loved it.

PinkyJapan (himajen) | 87 comments I also recommend the Delirium series. I was kind of bored/annoyed in the beginning and almost gave up but am I definitely glad I didn't!

I also loved the Vampire Academy series, (there really isn't a heroine more bad-ass than Rose Hathaway) but there is a bit about sex in it. If you read Christian and Amish fiction, it might not be your thing.

Another great read is the Unearthly series. It is about the Nephilim, (like Mortal Instruments) and the heroine definitely isn't a damsel-in-distress!

Diane U (djuseless) @Jen ~ Unearthly by Cynthia Hand sounds interesting. I've added it to my Amazon wish list. Thanks for the suggestion!

@Veronica ~ I recently bought The Maze Runner after seeing the preview at the movies and it was only $1.99 for the kindle!
