Is anyone else wondering about the debt Matthew owed Death?

they all did bad things in the past lives.

I thought that they dont remember anything, they just learn what people pass down to them...
and that Matthew is the one who knows stuff....
well matthew also says how the future can be changed depending on decisions n stuff...

I also take notice that Mathew tells Evie that being around Jack blocks out the arcana calls. But repetitivly Mathew tells Evie "He hurts when he helps/"
And Im starting to think thats Jacksons Arcana Call.
I also agree that Jackson is a major Arcana. Everyone expects him to be the sun card but Im routing on the Emperor. If anybody looked into Tarots, The Empress is at her strongest when paired with the Emperor. I also notice that everytime Jackson get very angry a natural disaster of some sort happens, like storms, earthquakes, tempreture drop.

I thought he just remembered the ones he won
He remembers more?"
Death remembers because he won that game. Just because Matthew might have killed Empress doesn't mean that was the end game.

Its been a while now since I was last in the Arcana world, I'd meant to do a re-read before the new release, but so many books, so little time. How many wins were by Death? Is it not possible that at some point, someone else won a game and retained memories. Is it not possible that Matthew plays a much more important role in the overall game that we are imagining. Perhaps he truly is autistic in this lifetime, or perhaps he is just compensating for the barage of voices and information swirling in his brain at all times. Clearly he is deceptive, he's holding out on Evie, not telling her what he and Death share. He knows more about Jack than he is letting on to Evie and yes, "he hurts when he helps" is very likely Jack's call. I think Matthew is a mastermind, playing a role to cover his position. Perhaps certain players need to make contact with other players before they are fully re-awakened. No doubt about it, Matthew is full of secrets and surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if he engineers the games.
I don't think Death is as bad as he is made out be. True evil usually comes from behind, masked in a pretty package for our gullibility, not laid out so perfectly before us with arrows and sticky notes to warn us.
Hoping to read the new book next week, then another snippet of info will be revealed. Has anyone heard how many books are projected to be in the series?

Have you read the latest yet? I almost bought it tonight but am holding out for the Audible version next week - just love Jack's characterization in audio form.

Okay, so I have a budding suspicion that Matto was the other person to kill Evie in 1 out of the last 3 games. My reasoning? What other leverage would Death have on him and make it so that Matthew would let Death in to Evie's head? I'm guessing the debt that he was repaying back to Death was that Death agreed to say nothing about it to Evie, allowing Matto to stay her ally.
Also, when Evie asks Matthew who else killed her he just looks at his hand, "hard." Hmm. (view spoiler)[He's already betrayed her once by, "looking away" while Jackson killed/assisted her mom. And to make it even worse, he didn't tell her about it. Why? If he was never comfortable around Jackson, why not just tell her? (hide spoiler)]
