Erin
Okay, so I have a budding suspicion that Matto was the other person to kill Evie in 1 out of the last 3 games. My reasoning? What other leverage would Death have on him and make it so that Matthew would let Death in to Evie's head? I'm guessing the debt that he was repaying back to Death was that Death agreed to say nothing about it to Evie, allowing Matto to stay her ally.

Also, when Evie asks Matthew who else killed her he just looks at his hand, "hard." Hmm. (view spoiler)

Bethany I didn't even think of that wow!!! I can't wait to read the next book

Samantha that does make sense! crazy. good thoughts. Not his fault though (unless planning it again)
they all did bad things in the past lives.

Michelle Does Matthew not make comments about "not all bad is bad" and that actions and decisions can be justified if it furthers the "endgame"? It sounds like he is justifying his secret alliance with Death to himself and not merely making Evie feel better about having to do things her conscience tells her are wrong.

Samantha also remember how Matthew always said Jackson is bad and stuff... but then he said he isn't as bad as he thought...

Michelle And that Jackson hurts when he helps! I can't remember exactly what Matthew said, but it was to the effect that Jackson was unexpected?? Did he mean that Jackson will be a major player in the game and Matthew didn't see this form coming? If they win in a previous game do they not retain those memories?

Samantha what do u mean they dont retain the memories?
I thought that they dont remember anything, they just learn what people pass down to them...
and that Matthew is the one who knows stuff....

well matthew also says how the future can be changed depending on decisions n stuff...

Michelle But Death has full recall of every detail. Other characters only know things because their family has chronicled. It is interesting that Matthew remembers things specifically, details. It suggests that like Death he was once an ultimate winner and retained those memories.

Samantha death remembers them why?
I thought he just remembered the ones he won
He remembers more?

Michelle He seems to remember them all. Do you think that Matthew shared this memories with him? Similar to the way Matthew allowed Death to see into Evie's mind. Maybe that makes Matthew something MORE.

Samantha OOO I Have no clue.
i cant waittt.

Ana If what you claim is true them Mathew played his part as the fool correctly. He's fueled them all. Also if you look at the sneak peek reading to 'Death of Winter' It informs us that there is a traitor that is the least expected. I just re-read the books and started getting suspicious about Mathew. At first i overlooked his quirks and now im starting to see a pattern.
I also take notice that Mathew tells Evie that being around Jack blocks out the arcana calls. But repetitivly Mathew tells Evie "He hurts when he helps/"
And Im starting to think thats Jacksons Arcana Call.
I also agree that Jackson is a major Arcana. Everyone expects him to be the sun card but Im routing on the Emperor. If anybody looked into Tarots, The Empress is at her strongest when paired with the Emperor. I also notice that everytime Jackson get very angry a natural disaster of some sort happens, like storms, earthquakes, tempreture drop.

Death remembers because he won that game. Just because Matthew might have killed Empress doesn't mean that was the end game.

Michelle But how MANY games has there been?

Its been a while now since I was last in the Arcana world, I'd meant to do a re-read before the new release, but so many books, so little time. How many wins were by Death? Is it not possible that at some point, someone else won a game and retained memories. Is it not possible that Matthew plays a much more important role in the overall game that we are imagining. Perhaps he truly is autistic in this lifetime, or perhaps he is just compensating for the barage of voices and information swirling in his brain at all times. Clearly he is deceptive, he's holding out on Evie, not telling her what he and Death share. He knows more about Jack than he is letting on to Evie and yes, "he hurts when he helps" is very likely Jack's call. I think Matthew is a mastermind, playing a role to cover his position. Perhaps certain players need to make contact with other players before they are fully re-awakened. No doubt about it, Matthew is full of secrets and surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if he engineers the games.

I don't think Death is as bad as he is made out be. True evil usually comes from behind, masked in a pretty package for our gullibility, not laid out so perfectly before us with arrows and sticky notes to warn us.

Hoping to read the new book next week, then another snippet of info will be revealed. Has anyone heard how many books are projected to be in the series?

Erin Matthew does have a bigger role...he's the gamekeeper. That's why he's able to remember everything. I don't think he's playing a role with his Autism (which is a modern diagnosis, BTW), it's his way of coping with all of the information and past lives that he still remembers. Also, I think that he's loyal to Evie, I just think in a past life, he killed her.

Michelle Hi Erin,
Have you read the latest yet? I almost bought it tonight but am holding out for the Audible version next week - just love Jack's characterization in audio form.

Erin Michelle, I just finished reading the latest. I devoured it. And it is fun, suspenseful, and nicely paced. The book was over before I knew it. This one definitely brings the romance to the forefront with the action acting as the anchor. Which is fine by me. My only complaint is the language, it's a bit too much for me. But, after reading your comment...dang. I need to get the audio version.

Michelle Hi Erin,
Have you started a thread anywhere to talk about the new book?
