Anita Reads | 436 comments This is a difficult spot for me. I'm not near a 7 or a 9 in any series, and none of my June reads are located in France.
I'm considering going for the Alternative and read Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins

I'm going to read Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run, #7) by Abigail Roux #7 cut & run series

Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run, #7) by Abigail Roux #7 cut and run series

Finished :6/14/14
Rating:5
Review: this was a re -read and I loved it just as much the second time around. Holy cow the emotions and the anger and the fighting - this is one hell of a roller coaster ride. Buckle in - cause it is one hell of a bumpy ride. Zane's past comes back as does many secrets from Ty's past to bite them in the ass. There were several laughs along the way and we got to see the sidewinder crew again. Loved it. I think I need to do a re-read of the whole series.

Anita Reads | 436 comments We still have to read the book for this week right? Even though we didn't win.

Could take second place - some teams if not in contention don't bother to review their book or start it if they haven't yet. Up to each individual team.

Alternative: Setting France
Read: Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins
Finished: 06/18/14
Rated: 3 stars

Review:
I was a little dissapointed by this story to be honest. I was really looking forward to it. I don't know why I didn't like it so much, but I just think that sometimes there were too many things going on at once, and the main character annoyed me a bit. I did like the 2nd half of the book a little better. I give it 3 stars because it was an ok book.

I recently read that book and I pretty much felt the same as you did . I preferred Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender even with the weird name it is everything that I wished Anna and the French Kiss would have been. It has the same high school setting but they are on a school trip and there is mystery and romance with a ghost story background. I enjoyed it and I thought the main character and her love interest were so much better. Im sorry you were disappointed though.

Week 9: Spot 79
Read: Therese Raquin by Émile Zola
Finished : June 15th
Rated: 3 stars

I am not a huge fan of classics but I am trying to spread my wings a bit. I chose this book because I was planning on seeing the movie "In Secret" which its based on and wanted to know the back story. I had to use the word look up multiple times which was a little embarrassing but at least I learn some new vocabulary. :O) The story is as messy as any soap opera. Its about an orphan sent to live with her aunt and her overly mothered hypochondriac son. She is raised sleeping in the same bed as her cousin and despises him for always being so weak and sickly. After her father dies her aunt marries her off to that very cousin . She is miserable and left wanting for most things that would satisfy her, so she begins to have an affair with a visiting friend of the family. The passion gets out of control and the very thing that they believe will bring them the most happiness turns to a big hole of despair and everything goes wrong. The book gets very dark and reminded me a bit of The Tell-Tale Heart (Creative Classic) by Edgar Allan Poe . I enjoyed the story but the difficulty that I have with classics is the billowy language and just how long they take to explain anything.
I look forward though to watching the movie about the book . The husband is played by Tom Felton :O) Elizabeth Olson is the wife and the aunt is one of my all time favorite actresses Jessica Lange. Plus, there is a load of former Harry Potter actors in it . Overall, I am glad I read it.

Anita Reads | 436 comments @Tia - thanks for the tip :) I'll look it up, I didn't know about that book beforehand.
I really thought this one would have been good, it's gotten great reviews.

I'm no good at classics either, but I started reading some older books a few months ago, like Narnia Chronicles, books by George Orwell and stuff, and I'm currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird. I've had Pride and Prejudice since forever, but I've kept postponing it. Now I've added it to a bunch of challenges in hopes that I'd finally get to read it.
Nice job of finishing yours though.

I love Tom Felton :).

Anita Reads | 436 comments Just read the short summary of the book you mentioned. It sounds really good. I love a good mystery!
I added it to my (ever growing) TBR pile.

I know I watch a lot of book review videos on Youtube and I have never run across one that didn't seem to love Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins and I didn't not enjoy it at all but I didn't see what they saw . I hope you enjoy Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alender more, it really starts in a similar direction but has more to offer. :O)

Elle Week 9
Spot 79
Finish Date: 6/19/2014
Rating: 3.5 stars

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

This was a really good book but definitely not a fun read. This story is about the Jewish roundup in France during the Holocaust. The past of this story catches up with a present day family. Sarah's key is a good balance of France's contribution to the horror of Hitler's rule along with the present day reaction to discovering truths about family secrets. Incredibly sad but there are a few feel-good moments.
