Anita Reads | 436 comments That's always nice to have. :)
I think I saw that they had the books at the library. So maybe I'll rent them next time. (It got a little out of hand last time, got 10 books where one of them is a chunky one of 1074 pages. I'm not sure I'm gonna get them all read before 26th of May. I'm through the first 3 though)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments I don't remember one being over 1000 pages?? Is it a collection of them - like maybe 2-3 books into one volume?

Rate:4 Stars
Finished May 1, 2014
Rating:
A great story. I really enjoyed taking this ride with the Percy Jackson it was very entertaining. I love the characters and they didn't see, immature for 12 year olds. I love greek mythology and think this will open the world up for young kids and get them into reading. The character building was great and I can't wait to read the next one.

I'll be back with the book I'm going to read later. This spot is a little difficult compared to what I was planning to read this month.

No it's not one of her books. I got Under the Dome by Stephen King (I'd reserved it). Didn't know it would be that long.

Anita Reads | 436 comments Ok Melissa. Have a great weekend.

Did any of you guys have trouble getting online on Goodreads yesterday?

message 172: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep , it was a mess it was down 2 or 3 times for a couple hours each time.

message 173: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 436 comments It was really annoying, At first I thought there was something wrong with my connection, but then I tried several other internet sites and didn't have a problem with them.

Good thing I wasn't the only one :)

message 174: by Elle (new)

Elle I had a lot of problems with Goodeads yesterday also. They must have had some system issues. Everything seems fine today.

Anita Reads | 436 comments Week 3
Rolled 10 - space 28
Read:
The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampires, #2) by Rachel Caine by Rachel Caine - 2nd in a series
Finished: 05/03/14
Rating: ★★★★

My Review:
Claire Danvers lives in the Glass House in Morganville with her 3 roommates Michael, Shane and Eve. With Shanes father having suddenly shown up to slaughter all Vampires, they're all four suddenly in danger. When Shane gets falsely accused of having killed the vampire Damon, he's sentenced to death. Now Claire, Eve and Michael must do everything in their power to save Shane.

I found I really enjoyed this book. At first I was a little annoyed with some of the characters, but after Shane was captured it was hard to put the book away. I think I started liking Claire a lot better in this book. I'm happy that Claire and Shane's relationship changed a bit too.
Rachel Caine has really managed to write an action filled book and you never really know what's going to happen.
At least this didn't end with such a big cliff hanger as the first one :)

Elle Two for the Dough (Stephanie Plum, #2) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich
Finish Date: 05/04/2014
Rating: ★★★
Review: Crazy Stephanie Plum is back at it! Desperate for money and out of options, Stephanie takes the job of a bounty hunter in the first book. The job is simple...find the person who skipped out on bail and bring them in...get your cash. Easy enough. Ha! Stephanie has encountered some hilarious scenarios and it doesn't end in the second book. She is going after yet another scum and finds herself needing the help of good 'ole Morelli. Grandma Mazur had me in stitches with her crazy, gun-totin' self! Stephanie also gets a little help from Lulu who has now had a change of careers. While trying to bring in Kenny, she goes through some tough situations and has to rely on her instincts to get the man and bring him in. Overall, Evanovich's writing is not great. She writes to entertain not to provide some deep, written material of which to ponder and create meaningful conversations. She wants to keep you on your toes and give you a good laugh in the process. Mission accomplished.

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Hi ladies - I'm back. Survived my girls camping weekend!! I know remember why I hated middle school when I was in it. Some girls are always such pain(s) in the ass. Ok rant over :) I changed my book selection and finished it. Sorry that GR was giving you all problems. That always sucks.

Bound by Law (Men of Honor, #2) by S.E. Jakes
#2 in a series
by: S. E. Jakes
Finished 5/3/14
Rating:4♥
Review: We meet Law in book #1 and hear about his past with Styx (CIA). Then he meets Paulo, the detective who helps with the rapes that are occurring in the alley behind the club that Law owns w/Damon. He has an instant attraction to Paulo and is pissed at himself as he doesn't want to feel anything for anyone after what he went through after Styx walked out the last time. So of course the story begins with Law and Paulo on a date. Who shows up on a covert operation - yep that would be Styx undercover. Styx's past has finally caught up to him and has come after his past lover who he has never been able to forget about. So what happens when all three of them are snow bound in a cabin together?? Totally hot book. Was such a fun read! I loved all three character, taking into account that obviously both Law and Styx were gonna be a pain in the ass, lol.

message 182: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments I ended up reading book #3 in this series too this weekend and was not as good as #2 - hate when authors do that. The characters in book 3 - we've never met and have nothing to do with anyone from other books - it's like filler. Oh well.

message 183: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 436 comments Well done Sha and Melissa.

@Melissa - it's always annoying when the authors brings in characters that has nothing to do with the plot

Yes it totally is. I started the fourth book and they really aren't in this one either. Total filler, lol

message 185: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 436 comments They just want us to buy some more books. I feel like that with House Of Night now. I liked the series in the beginning, but now they're just dragging it along unnecessarily.

message 186: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments #4 was good - I just went back to look at how many pages - #3 should have been portrayed as a novella. I didn't realize going into it - it was only 79 pages which is why it felt like all of a sudden it ended.
#4 is about a character you meet in #2. So, technically if you knew this ahead of time - you could just skip #3 as you don't really need to read it.

message 187: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 436 comments Oh. Sneaky. They should have called it 2,5 then if it's a novella.

My week is slightly uneventful so far. Though I'm enjoying The Graveyard Book at the moment. Neil Gaiman's writing is really special.

message 192: by [deleted user] (new)

Im sorry Melissa that is very sad. I do hope your week gets better .

Anita , I haven't read The Graveyard Book but I am really looking forward to it, my favorites from him so far would be Coraline and Stardust. He is so creative and I love the fantasy worlds he creates.

message 193: by Anita Reads (last edited May 07, 2014 02:22PM) (new)

Anita Reads | 436 comments This is the first book I've read by him, but everyone here on GR are praising his work, so I thought I better give him a try.

I heard that the Stardust movie should be a little better, but I haven't read it yet. So what do I know? Anyway I love the movie so I probably will also love the book :)

Wow , this is not a good week at all , I am so sorry Nika. That is horrible but congratulations on graduating . What an accomplishment ! You should be very proud of yourself.

I had to change my books around a bit this week has been crazy for me because my husband was changed to nights for a few days and it just messed everything up now they changed it back for a few days so who knows what it will be next week but I ended up reading a very good book
Week 3
Rolled 10 - space 28
Finished: May 7th
5 stars !!! This is second in a series

Ms America and the Villainy in Vegas Ms America and the Villainy in Vegas (Beauty Queen Mysteries, No. 2) by Diana Dempsey
I love these books !!! I feel like I can not say that enough , I am not a huge fan of humorous books but this one is amazing. I love the whole beauty queen aspect of the story, I love all the supporting characters, they are really all entertaining and they are so well developed , for such a quick read you really get a complete range of stories for each. Happy is married so she competes in Ms. America so its a little different then all the kiddie pageants that people are used to seeing. She is a grown woman with a daughter going into college and her and husband are just starting to really live their dreams now as they enter this new phase of their lives. He is in pit school in North Carolina , thanks to some of her prize money from winning the pageant in Oahu. There is another mystery to solve and Happy is more than "happy" to get her hands right back in and try to join with the local police and help solve the case with her amateur but very effective sleuth abilities. The dialogue makes me laugh out loud , her phrasing is so perfect. Happy is a character that I would love to be best friends with. She is classy and hilarious, extremely curious ,resourceful, accomplished and above all else she's truly passionate about her friends and family. I love the relationship between her and her mother , it rings very close to home with me. It is not the perfect "mother /daughter baking together, picture they have struggles but there is a certain "even if she doesn't always deserve it , I will take care of her and show her love" way about them. I really hope Diana Dempsey writes more of these , there are 2 more one in Miami (another place I know well because I grew up in South Florida) so that will be really fun to read. The first one was in Oahu , where I live now( I even went to one of the real places they mentioned for lunch after I read the first one). Then the 4th one is in Winona, Minnesota and its Christmas theme which should be fun, but I read on Ms. Dempsey's website that she wanted to do an international pageant theme so I am really hoping that comes to fruition. I could read these all in one weekend but they are so fun I am trying to make myself time them right so Im reading the Christmas one closer to Christmas but we will see if I can hold out. These books do an amazing job of really highlighting the cities they mention they give you a clear picture of what it would be like if you were there. I've been to Vegas but it made me want to go back and do some of the things her and her friends did there (especially the spa treatments) I know that these books are ones that I will be very glad I own so I can reread the series whenever I want to. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good mystery and wants to take a little vacation contained in the pages.

Congrats about graduating this week too. My sister just handed in her bachelor project yesterday, she's been so stressed out lately, and has been grouped up with someone who only did her job half-heartedly, putting more pressure on my sister.
