5th or 8th in a series or alternatively a book published in 2008

Although I haven't read the previous ones, I don't think it will hurt the story, and I am familiar with the main character.

So for any newbies to win you have to roll past 75, you can read the # you'd be on i.e. land on 89 you can read and 8th or a 9th or the new alternate.

Review
As much as I enjoyed getting to see Cynna and Cullen's points of view in the last book, it was very nice to be back with Lily and Rule here. The book was very fast-paced; there truly was never a slow moment. The mystery had me very intrigued, and everything that happened surrounding Toby as well as Rule's actions towards the end of the book has me very curious as to what's going to happen next!

Review:
This is a mystery thriller series that features Kay Scarpetta, forensics medical examiner for the FBI. Kay is faced with many changes in her life…a boy friend who is pressuring for more, a niece who is following in her footsteps that is facing public scrutiny for her homosexuality, and a long time assistant who is coming out of the closet. Running parallel to those changes is her latest case, that features a new type of serial killer.
This book was published in 1997, and seemed dated. Much of the technology used has evolved significantly, and the acceptance of sexual preferences was not widespread, and seemed of a previous generation. For those reasons, it did not keep my interest the way a more modern book would. It is well written but I thought it developed slowly, with a very abrupt ending. I gave it 3 stars because the writer has talent but this was not one of her best books.

Review:
Charlotte Court goes on the run after being set up for her father’s murder. While in hiding in a picturesque town in Mexico, Charlotte meets former Navy SEAL, Matt Sanders who is recuperating from his own trauma. The two grow closer as the threats from Charlotte’s past loom nearer and nearer.
Charlotte is an intelligent and resourceful heroine and Matt is a scarred and sexy SEAL. Their chemistry is excellent, and the development of their relationship is intense and often breathtaking. That said, Matt can be quite overbearing, and the actual consummation of his and Charlotte’s sexual relationship is rather tepid.
Both the hero and the villain are built up as intense warriors and brilliant strategists, but the final confrontation between them is lackluster. Nevertheless, the bad guy’s demise is quite satisfactory.
The writing style is straightforward and minimalistic at times, but the pacing flows smoothly and keeps the reader engaged. There are two gruesome scenes that some readers might find disturbing. The first is completely unnecessary as it adds nothing to the developing storyline or to the main villain’s characterization while the second is central to the plot and doesn’t actually come close to similarly gritty scenes in books by Karen Rose or Karin Slaughter.
All in all, an entertaining read with a solid suspense tale and a truly touching romance.

Review: This was a fun little read. I liked it better than the last one. Lizzie has learned a little discretion and I didn't cringe so much when she started to babble. The story was predictable but moved along quickly enough that I didn't get bored. Very nice conclusion to the trilogy.

Would you ladies still like me to roll for this week so that you can narrow down your books choices?

This is round 2 and I'm sure there are others who want to play again so there will probably be a round 3 :0)

It's too bad the dice weren't with us this round! I really liked clearing some books off my TBR list/mountain though!

Yes, these team challenges are the best way to get those long lingering books off the TBR!

I'll try to type it together here at the airport as I wait for my boarding time. I loved this challenge :)

Week 8
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

Review:
I loved this book! This is the third book by Kristin Hannah that I've read. I was kind of expecting this experience of being completely swept up in the story. I could barely put the book down for the duration of my Italian class.
It is a story of the Firefly girls Kate Mularkey and Tully Hart. Kate is hopelessly uncool and her previous friends have deserted her leaving her all alone. Then the amazing and irressistible Tully moves across the street from her. Tully is everything Kate is not. She is loud and fearless and goes after her dreams . As different as the girls are, they become best friends, promising to be there for each other until the end of time.
Their friendship spans through the decades. Through secret meetings at night, first parties, first boyfriends, through college into adulthood. Inevitably they grow and change and have to realize that their friendship can't remain the same as it was in childhood. They each have to find their own way in life.
Kristin Hannah writes such vivid and relatable characters. I feel like I know these girls in real life. Her newest book Fly Away is sequel to Firefly Lane. She said in an interview that Tully and Kate just remained with her and she wanted to write more about them. I'm not surprised. They will remain with me too.

Review: I really enjoyed this book. The slow start is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but now that the characters and setting have been built, I'm hoping the next book in the series moves more quickly. I love that she used minor characters from her other series. She's got Manfred from the Harper Connelly series and Bobo from the Lily Bard series and then the whole idea of witches and vampires and shifters from her Sookie Stackhouse books. I am looking forward to the next book.
