Sheila, I just have to say how impressed I am by how organized you are as a team captain.
Go Team, Go!

A disappointing book from an awesome author. A young dancer is kidnapped at a mall and drugged and raped by numerous men and women and it was posted on the internet. I guess I shouldnt say "disappointing" it was just not my cup of tea.
I am going with alternate P.
by Melinda Wells. I'll switch that to a link when I'm on the computer.Date finished 6/4/14

Review: This is a new author and a new series for me...though I'm starting several books in for it to fit the challenge. I've been avoiding the cozy mysteries with the poodles on the front. What can I say, I'm not a fan of poodles since my grandma had a very mean one when I was a kid. This book, came in a mixed lot of cozy mysteries that I won on ebay, along with the first Books by the Bay series book, which also has a poodle on the cover. I have to say both that book and this one were excellent.
This book has good character development, strong plotlines, and enough mystery to keep me guessing. It seemed to have more substance than a lot of the cozies that I have been reading lately, which I've come to call "fluff" reading. Overall, well done, and I highly recommend.
I updated post 200 with my review for week 7, spot 60 (alternate: Title P).
I'm finally back from my travels. We logged close to 2000 miles in about 10 days but had a really good time at our destinations. But like Dorothy Gayle there is no place like home. I'll get the linking post up and running today so we are all ready for Friday's roll. I haven't checked out the spreadsheet this week but I suspect all the teams are within a week or 2 of finishing the challenge.I hope everyone is having a good week.
I was just looking at the spreadsheet and it looks like team #2 is the only team in contention to win next week if they get a 10 or above. Otherwise it will probably be 2 weeks before it is the race to the finish. This is a pretty laid back challenge otherwise.

Week 8: Spot #64
The Stranger by Camilla Läckberg (Fjällbacka #4)Finished 6/7 3 stars
This is book 4 translated from Swedish and is an excellent example of the Nordic Crime Noir. When a local shopkeeper is found dead in a single car accident everything seems like a horrible accident but the more Patrik investigates the more he is convinced there is more to it. Several different high profile cases come together. Meanwhile his girlfriend soon to be wife is trying to plan their wedding. This is a good series but this wasn't my favorite.
Week 8: Spot # 64Alternate: Title "?"
Tracker's Sin
Tracker's Sin by Sarah McCarty] (#4 of Hell's Eight)
Finished: 6/8
Rating: 3.5
Review: The Texas Rangers/Hell's Eight contingent continues to search for Ari Blake, sister of Desi (Caine's Reckoning) in this outing. Desi has believed for years that her sister was still alive but not necessarily well. Desi found out their father's banker arranged to have the sisters kidnapped and sold to Indians in an elaborate scheme to control their fortune.
This reader was not best served with this installment. I am not a fan of flashbacks, yet this seemed to be a highlight for me here. However, the read wasn't all bad. The very broken Ari, while good in theory was undermined by the very broken Ari. The very steamy sex scenes continue to be intense and for this outing the writing, battle scenes and the characters were fairly well done. I love the premise of this series but have yet to become a fan.
Team 2 landed on 71, so it looks like we have this week and one more roll. It'll be a close race to the finish!
I'll post my book choice later today.

Week 8: Spot 64
Book:
Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card, Book #4 in the Ender's Shadow series
Finished: 06/11/14
Rating: ♥♥♥
Review: The saga of Bean continues. Now he and Petra are searching for their babies that were stolen as embryos and implanted in other women. The other Battle School alums continue to lead their countries in war against each other, and Peter continues trying to bring peace to the world with him as the overall leader, of course. I was getting a little tired of this story now. Seemed to be dragging it out. It would have been a nice ending if this had been the last book in the series, but no, there is one more out there, I believe. I don't really want to read it, but I just can't leave the series unfinished when there's only one more book!

Lisa, I've been wondering if I should check out that book,
. I enjoyed Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking series, but this one seems a bit different. However, a lot of people gave it 4 or 5 stars, so I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

I posted this in the discussion thread but thought I'd post it on each team's thread too.All teams in post 4 of their thread have the winning alternates under the spoiler tag. They've been randomly selected and I'll post the list here too. So for any newbies to win you have to roll past 75, you can read the # you'd be on i.e. land on 89 you can read and 8th or a 9th or the new alternate.

Review: I liked this book even better than the first one. I was unable to guess who the killer was in this one. There were so many people with motive and means. The victim sure wasn't a nice guy. The characters are for sure "characters" and I think I like Cherry the most. Can't wait to read the next one.
Well team it looks like it all comes down to a mad dash to the finish next week. We are still in the running but I think the odds of my rolling 12 are pretty slim. The dice just haven't been kind this round.

I dont even know where to begin to explain this book, but I will try. A 13 year old boy has a monster visit him..the monster is a Yew Tree. The monster doesnt scare the boy but teaches him valuable lessons in life.
Talia-you definitely should read this book, it will break your heart, but its pretty awesome!
Is everyone keeping their fingers crossed that we will actually roll a double digit number tomorrow and be in the running for a mad dash to the finish line?

Final Week - Spot 74
Absolute Fear by Lisa Jackson (New Orleans #4) ✔Finished 6/15 - ★★★★★
Eve Renner is lured to a cabin in the woods and discovers Roy's brutally murdered body with the number 212 written in blood and is shot in the head at the cabin. At the time of the shooting she is positive that the shooter is her fiancé Cole who gets sent to prison.
After months of rehab in Atlanta staying with her brother Eve now has returned home to New Orleans on the same day that Cole gets set free on a technicality. Very involved story by one of my favorite authors. I give it an enthusiastic ★★★★★'s.
Darn! Well it's been a productive round for me. I'm glad to have finally read Dark Lover and Shadow of the Giant as well as some Aunt dimity books. This week I'll go with the alternative option (author: W) and read
by Kiersten White.

Stranger
by Zoe Archer (#4 of Blades of the Rose)Finished: 6/15
Rating: 4 stars
Review: The last of the Blade of the Rose series brings Catullus front and center as he finds unexpected kinship in the form of feisty, red-headed, newspaperwoman, Gemma Murphy. Gemma is shut out because of her sex and Catullus because of both his skin but his brain. Both have to work harder to be accepted. Taking the reins from "The Rebel", Catullus, Astrid and Lesperance have left the Northwest Territories, both pursuing and being pursued by the Heirs.
While I had quibbles with the book, it wasn't as bad as all that. It was readable and enjoyable. I had expectations of what had gone before and got something unexpected and different for this outing. All the threads were tied off and there is a clear outcome. I was torn over this being the end, I felt there were so many more stories that could have been told and I've very much enjoyed these adventures.
Gee, I can't believe there hasn't been a winning team yet. I just updated my final book post and wanted to take this opportunity to say how great it has been being part of this team. I wish I had gotten to know each of you better but oh well. Sometimes teams are chatty, sometimes not. I am sure we will run into each other again on Goodreads in the future.I have read some really good books and made some serious progress on some series I am wanting to finish and it has been nice and relaxing.
Everyone enjoy your summer.

Glad you're catching up on those series! Great summer to you too
Looks like the Book Ninjas just won. Thanks for being our captain, Sheila! I enjoyed our team.
Lisa wrote: "Can we use my free pass this week? Found out bad news."Sorry about the bad news Lisa but the free pass has expired. It is only for skipping a person for the next roll and we are done rolling. I don't think it matters whether we finish now anyway since there is already a winner.
I hope things go well for you Lisa.
Hello ladies! It has been fun playing with all of you. Since there is already a winner, I'm going to pass on finishing my book for this round then, as I'm getting married Sunday and things are getting down to the wire. Thanks for being a great team captain Sheila.
Thanks Jennifer. Best wishes on your wedding. Exciting times. Hubby and I are celebrating 40 years this year.

Alternate: Title "P"
Enigma by Moira Rogers (#6 of Southern Arcana)
Finished: 5/31
Rating: 4.5
Review:
Anna Lenoir and Patrick McNamara have been great supporting players through the series to date as they slyly checked the packaging on each other and sparred relentlessly, often drawing blood. Ben's death still has Patrick feeling out of sorts and now that the debt to Julio has been paid, Patrick is thinking of leaving New Orleans. It isn't as if he has that sense of love, belonging and possession with another, the "more" he wanted with Anna for instance. Anna is completely frustrated with Patrick. All she's willing to give is here and now and Anna's at a loss why Patrick shuts her down each time she offers since "more" isn't available. Patrick and Anna are offered an assignment. The heir to the Southwest council, Oscar Ochoa, is missing, the latest in a growing number of missing shifters.
Relating Oscar's disappearance to the other disappearances bring sets things up to battle an nefarious scheme laced with plenty of dark power. I laughed aloud when Patrick referred to himself and Anna as Bounty Hunter Barbie and Ken. I also enjoyed their conversations with each other - they had a comfort level that seemed intimate, supportive and realistic. The stakes are raised considerably as both Anna and Patrick are endangered. In a blink of an eye, the stakes are raised as both Anna and Patrick step into alpha level protective mate mode.
