PepperP0t yup. so do you want me to read something by Thursday or wait until next Friday with a fresh roll? I want the team captain to be happy (man that sounds like a suck up move)

message 102: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Consider yourself duly sucked up Pat. Sure you have plenty of time to read a book by Thursday don't you?

message 103: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Just post what you are going to read and please post your review in the same spot when you are done so I can do the linking post ahead of time. Thanks

Week 3: Spot #26
Tucker's Claim (Hell's Eight, #3) by Sarah McCarty

Letter "S"
Tucker's Claim by Sarah McCarty

Finished: May 4
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Review: Widowed peace-loving Quaker Sally Mae Schermerhorn can recall when she became attracted to Texas Ranger Tucker McCade. It was when the town started treating her as their healer. Sally couldn't make sense of the attraction because Tucker was very different from her husband Jonah and if he was very different from Jonah then he had to be very different from her as well. But Tucker made Sally want more, more everything even more than she had with Jonah. Half-Indian Tucker had never belonged anywhere except Hell's Eight, being half Indian and half white meant he didn't fit anywhere else. While Tucker became even more smitten with Sally when she became a widow, he couldn't understand why she wouldn't go back east. Keeping his distance to keep Sally's reputation untainted by him, Tucker still slept in her barn and dreamed Sally loved and wanted him the way his friends had found women and a place. As usual for this series, the intimacy scenes are scorchers, no wonder it's so hot in Texas.

Sorry girls that my posts are so short this week. It's finals week and I have a paper to write. But since this is the end of school for me, I will have way more time for reading and chatting :)

message 117: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm doing fwys as well. I am so proud of myself. I have read 3 books from my picked series already this month.

message 118: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t so far I finished both of my dusties and only one book of my picked series this month for fwys. last month I decided to abandon my fwys series after reading 2 more books. I was forcing myself to read them and that is so not fun.

Sheila (sheilaj) So, how is everyone's week going?

Since I retired I have many days when I don't leave the house. This week however I have had something going on every day. Tomorrow is hubby's day to go and do and I think I will get to stay home. I scored the newest James Patterson book at the library and hope to be able to sit down and make a dent in that.

message 124: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments My week is going good. I finally finished my last paper for school last night. Looking forward to having more time for wedding planning and reading. I'm currently reading Murder Buys a T-shirt (A Haunted Souvenir Shop Mystery #1) by Christy Fifield and then planning to read Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Between, #1) by April Genevieve Tucholke

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

This week has been so slow for me for reading. Darn, I hate that! But I spent all weekend visiting with family, so I suppose they're worth it :p I've only finished one audiobook, 12th of Never (Women's Murder Club, #12) by James Patterson . Sheila, which Patterson novel did you get? Was it Unlucky 13 by James Patterson ? I thought I was caught up on the series and then I saw this one on the library's website.

I should be posting my review for Changeless (Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger by tomorrow morning if I don't do it tonight.

message 126: by Sheila (last edited May 07, 2014 11:33PM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Lisa, could you add a rating to your book review on post 90?

Talia, yes I got Unlucky 13 on its publishing release day. I figured I would be in a queue at the library for weeks but I must have been first in line in reserving it. One of my favorite series. Funny thing, since my husband was the one that stopped at the library he got his mitts on it first. Happily he is the fastest reader I know and he read it in 1 day.

Jennifer, congratulations on being done. I know it is such a relief. Now hopefully you will have some time to do things you WANT to do.

message 127: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I've been working on my new site and somehow I've been bitten by something that has given me the superpower of reading quicker than usual!

I'll never catch up on Patterson again it seems, I've got holes in fill in there.

I keep saying I'm going to read the Parasol Protectorate series but.....

Also, great Jennifer! now that you've done what you have to do, you can do what you want to do! Always a good thing.

message 128: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 256 comments I'm anxiously awaiting my turn with Unlucky 13 (Women’s Murder Club, #13) by James Patterson . I think I'm 44th in the queue...the tortures of living in a small town :) I gave up on the Alex Cross series. It just doesn't do it for me any more.

I finished Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (Between, #1) by April Genevieve Tucholke last night (finally up til 1 am doing something I want rather than what I have to)...I'm trying to read a bunch of books with "gothic" listed on their main genre page for another challenge...so I have to see what's next ...maybe Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham since it's also on my bookshelf forever and I need to read those kinds of books for a spring cleaning challenge.

How many other challenges do you ladies have going at once? I can't seem to say no to challenges.

message 129: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I counted the other day Jennifer and I have 47 different challenges going now. My big one is the Seasonal Reading Challenge and their new tasks come out a week from Saturday for their summer challenge. (New task day is one of my favorite days of the year) I use the books I read for everything else on the books that fit the SRC.

At this point this is the only team challenge I have going but a new one starts in a week or so on Nothing But Reading Challenges called the Uncover it challenge that I am looking forward to as well. Whenever I finish a book, it takes about an hour to look at all those challenges to see if I can fit the book into anything. I think I am OCD.

My main goals for 2014 are to complete some of the oh so many series I have in play so that is why I like this challenge so much since it is based on series books.

To keep track of all of those I started my own gr group just for me and track everything on there.

message 130: by [deleted user] (new)

I updated post 91 with this week's review.

I overdid it with joining challenges. They're too tempting! I'm in one to finish a series. I have the Ender's Shadow, Mortal Instruments, and Cotton Malone series to finish for that. I'm in the Choose Your Own Fate challenge. That one is creative with going to the different groups for different quests. I have four buddy reads. I need to pick up the pace this month! But on the upside, I'm ahead of schedule for my year-end goal of 200 books. Woohoo!

Sheila, that is a good idea about creating your own group to track your challenges! I might have to copy that idea :).

There is no way I could keep track otherwise. I used to use a word document but it is just so much easier to set up your own group. That way I can do any editing of the challenge as I go along on there and then just copy it over to the group when I complete it.

I have divided up by groups and then I have one topic that is for monthly challenges since I usually am doing 6 or 7 of them.

I'll be rolling the dice late tonight. I hope we get something that everyone wants.

Fever of the Bone (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #6) by Val McDermid Fever of the Bone by Val McDermid (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan #6) ✔
Finished 5/11 ✿✿✿

I must be getting burnt out on this series or something because I did not like this book as much as the previous 5 books in the series. The case that Carol and Tony are working on is the capturing of a killer who is targeting 14 year old boys. Meanwhile Tony is dealing with his own demons regarding the death of the father he never knew he had and the reasons why he never knew. The book ends with a sort of cliffhanger regarding Carol and Tony's relationship in the future. I will finish the series but I sure hope the next book in the series keeps my attention better than this one did.

Review: After 5 years and with only 3 weeks left on the chip, Nathan Dean faces the woman who has owned him since they met, Audrey Madison. Nathan's goal is simple: find out what happened to the child, find out what Audrey knows about Jory, find out what Audrey knows about the chips, kill the commander and not let himself get emotionally tangled in Audrey again. After 5 years and several horrible operations, Audrey Madison faces the man who has owned her since the day they met, Nathan Dean. Audrey is using her job with the Senator to bring down the Commander's entire operation and save her mother and now to keep Nathan safe. Audrey was fine giving Nate the highlights of what happened with her in the 5 years they've been apart. Unknown to the commander Audrey, Senator Nash and the senators chief of staff are working to secretly bring down the commander for illegal testing. Later when several other companies vie for the same funding dollars the company heads begin dying, leaving Audrey as the prime suspect in each case.

Loved, loved, loved Audrey and Nate's story. Nate whose alphaness was too big for such a puny human. (I started calling him Domi-Nathan and declared him my new book husband before I reached chapter two.) When Audrey finds her mother has performed experiments on her, Audrey is more driven to help Nate obtain the information about the chip. I liked seeing Shane and Matt in action and unfortunately Josie and Laney only got a chance to wave from the sidelines. This was an unputdownable read-I did nothing but read this book! Unfortunately every book has a flaw of some kind and the flaw with this read is that it reminded me there are only four brothers and this is book three! The Sins Brothers series is a series I want to read again for the first time.

Review: Overall, I felt this was a good ending to the series. It's been a while since I read the first two books, but I was able to pick up without being lost. I think everything wraps up nicely, but with enough action in between to keep things going. It's was good to see a resolution to Kelley and Sonny's story, and I can't wait to read her spin-off series with Fennrys as the main character.

Review:
Wrath is king of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the elite warriors of the vampire world, and he is charged with helping Beth, a half human/half vampire, as she transitions into a vampire. While this is going on, Mr. X is part of a group bent on killing all the vampires, and he is working on a new strategy to lure vampires out into the open so that he can capture them. I'm new to reading paranormal romances, so I was interested in reading this since so many people love this series. It was okay. Lots of steamy scenes, but I wish there was a bit more plot to the story. I'll give Book #2 in the series a try, but if there isn't more action or drama going on other than relationship drama, I might not continue further with the series.

I'll be interested in reading your review of Dark Lover Talia. I can't tell you how many times I have tried to read that one. It keeps going up and down on my immediate read list. I've had the audiobook loaded onto my iPod forever but other things keep on crowding it out of the way. Don't know why.

Sheila (sheilaj) I've updated the link post so it looks like everyone is squared away for the week. Jennifer just has too many choices to choose from. haha.

Anyone got big exciting plans for the weekend? We have a church Mother's Day luncheon that my husband will be a waiter at and a grandson ballgame. I hope to get calls from my kids wishing me a happy day. Other than that, just finally enjoying some really nice weather for a change.

Don't you love days like that when you don't have to get dressed? Yesterday my main goal was to go barefoot all day!

don't you love the days when your dreams are small?

message 148: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) After reading your enthusiastic review I tried to dl the first in the series on my kindle but my libraries don't have them. boo. They have a lot of books by that author, but none in that series unfortunately.

message 149: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I love all her series. and it all depends upon your poison which one you pick. I know you know Ezi, and I know she's read Dark Protectors and started on Sins Brothers she may have a kindle if the books are lendable.

(9 Books - I think) Dark Protectors is paranormal, shifters & vamps/fated romance
(3books) Maverick Montana is cowboy romance
(3books) Sins Brothers is romantic suspense

sorry I don't have a kindle or I'd let you borrow. I'm a Nookie!

message 150: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Thanks, Pat but I guess I didn't NEED another series after all. I guess I will have to read one of the other THOUSANDS of books I have on my tbr.
