The genre is definitely fantasy, and I think that the mother of the MC was a fairy or something who abandoned her world to get married in the 'human world' and then the MC can reach her mother's world with the white shoes that her mother gave her. She also falls in love there...

Oh wow! I do remember really liking it - it's a change from the usual YA fantasy books.
I think the name of the book is the first name of the main character but I'm not sure...
The book is set in one town and the mother of the main character is famous for being able to heal people very well (I think...she was famous for something).
One day the mother gives her daughter (main character) a pair of white shoes which she's not supposed to wear or something and then she does and strange things happen and she can't take them off...
(view spoiler)[ and then the mother gets really sick and dies and an evil step mother comes to take care of the family... Some people die and their bodies lie in the river that goes through the town. The girl is supposed to wear the white shoes which bring her to a different world and there she gets help from someone and she is supposed to defeat evil or something (hide spoiler)]
