Yes, even I wondered the same! Anyway..it's just namesake..most of the people know it's really her!
And yes, Strike does seem like an unlikely hero, but an endearing one all the same! :D

I started Part 2 today.
Whatever has been revealed about Strike's troubled past and present so far, is only making me develop an affinity for him! (^.^)

Such novels open with a murder. It might appear an accident or a suicide, and the case is closed. Someone is not convinced that it's an accident or suicide, he manages to reopen the investigation.
The motives are searched and with each motive a new suspect surfaces. One by one, the suspects are cleared. One person, say Mr. X, seems fully involved in the murder. But he does something highly creditable and wins the trust of the reader as well as the detective that he is above suspicion. Another person's, say Mr. Y's, actions are suspicious, even he could be hiding from the law. The detective corners Y, to find that he has a dark secret which he is trying to hide, but he has nothing to do with murder.
The plot now thickens, the motive is unclear and the reader is now suspecting every character. Then matter becomes more clear; it seems the killer is cornered. The detective and the police move in only to find that he too is killed.
While all this is happening, the killer, who is also helping in the investigation, is making several false moves, which are being noticed subtly by the detective. With inadequate proof, the detective can do nothing, but he lays a bait, and the killer bites it. He is nailed.
Finally the reader says, 'All the while I knew who had dunnit. I knew it was Mr. X, because he was the one ... blah, blah...

Strike is unusual but good detective, nonetheless. And I happen to love Robin!

I suppose you've finished it already! I'm still on Part 3 -_-
I seem to be the discussion lagger, rather than leader :P
Nevertheless, I'm really enjoying the book! (^.^)

This cliched element of "Life gave me lemons but I f**kicng made lemonade out of it" somehow turns me off entirely. What are your views on this ?
Perhaps they want to play the sympathy card.
Or perhaps to make their detecting feats more impressive.
