Jill H. (bucs1960) Tina Michelle.....I just added that to my TBR list. Thanks....I hope it is as good as we expect it will be. A little bit of trivia....it appears that Her Majesty was a bit of a kleptomaniac and when she visited stately homes they hid their small treasures.

message 1059: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) I am now reading my last book to round out my Crimean War cycle (or not). It is:

The Destruction of Lord Raglan (Wordsworth Military Library) by Christopher Hibbert by Christopher Hibbert Christopher Hibbert

I just finished another book by the same author as mention in post# 1056:
Napoleon His Wives and Women by Christopher Hibbert by Christopher Hibbert Christopher Hibbert . It was quite good, as you would expect from this historian.

Hi Krystal, the book was a nice easy to read introduction to the Jewish War against Rome, a good primer for further reading if so desired. You may also want to consider; "Judaea Weeping: The Jewish struggle against Rome from Pompey to Masada, 63 B.C. to A.D. 73" by George Brauer (no listing at GR) or this book:

Apocalypse The Great Jewish Revolt Against Rome by Neil Faulkner by Neil Faulkner

Hello Patrick,

Please be sure to follow our rules and guidelines for citations. Please add the book cover, the author's photo when available and always the author's link.

We are glad that you are enjoying The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich but we make sure that we take full advantage of the powerful Goodreads software which cross populates our site making it easier for folks to research books, discussions, threads, authors etc very easily.

On the Introduction thread, I know we reviewed the rules and guidelines and gave you some helpful links to review as well as an example.

But here is what the citation should look like:

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich A History of Nazi Germany by William L. Shirer by William L. Shirer William L. Shirer

Enjoy the book and let us know how you liked it. But be sure when mentioning the book and/or author again to be sure to add the full citation. Thanks in advance.

And we are happy to have you and you are not a pain in any way. When folks are new; there is always a learning curve and we are here to help you with any questions you might have. Just read the Mechanics of the Board thread and you will get very very detailed instructions on how to do these adds which take 2 seconds once you get the hang of it. And then just keep practicing and you will get it right. We would rather you keep posting and we will help you along the way rather than you not get involved. So just keep posting and learning; that is what we are all here for.

Marjorie Martin I'm reading BERLIN 1961; KENNEDY, KHRUSHCHEV AND THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE ON EARTH by Frederick Kempe. Very interesting book. Drawing on newly declassified archival material, Kempe has recreated in unprecedented fashion one of the most pivotal moments in postwar history - the building of Berlin Wall in August 1961. A wealth of American, German and Russian documents - diplomatic cables, transcripts, memoranda, letters - provided the author with rich source material. What makes the book such a compelling read, however, is Kempe's skill in extracting the drama and the telling detail of events during this dangerous time.

Marge, sounds like a fascinating book, thanks for sharing.

make sure to add the author link. when there is no author photo you don't have to add the no photo icon, but always include the link with the book cover (and author photo when available.)

thanks again for the contribution.

Karolina | 27 comments I am reading the Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif which is about a young man who is forced to leave his home in Afghanistan in fear of his life. Najaf entwines his story with his boyhood in Mazar-e-Sharif, his journey to Australia on a boat to where he is "detained" (a euphemism) at Woomera Detention Camp. The prose is simply written and quite lyrical at times. It gives us an insight into the way Hazaras lived under the rule of the Mujaheddin and the Taliban. I am enjoying the book. It is the "real" thing.

I don't understand what you mean by "always include the link". If you mean the author's name, it is given when one clicks on the book's photo. It was also given in my summary of the book.

Marge

message 1084: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Marge, there are three elements to citing a book in accordance with the club guidelines: the book cover photo (always), the author photo (when available) and the author name link (always). All three can be located using the 'add book/author' feature. In the book you cited, there was no author photo available, and you correctly posted the book cover. When you go back into the add book/author feature immediately after positing a book cover, click on the author tab and the list of authors appropriate to the book title will appear. If there is a photo click on it and then go back in and select the link. If there is no photo you simply select the link. YOu can select photo or link using the radio buttons at the bottom of the box.
Berlin 1961 by Frederick Kempe Frederick Kempe
Citing a book in this way allows it to populate the site properly leveraging the goodreads software and allows people to find books where they are discussed.
There is more information in our guidlines thread that can help you. Let us know if you need a hand, any moderator can help you.
Thanks!

message 1086: by Alisa (new)

Wurmo, thanks for the suggestion. You may be new to The History Book Club (don't recall seeing you post before) so we would love to welcome you. Please post a note on our introduction thread so we know a little about your interests.

Before you post your intro or anything further do take a look at our club guidelines, as it contains important info on how to cite a book, such as the one you recommended. We leverage the goodreads software that populates the threads when mentioning a book or author. Your post should include the book cover, author photo (when available) and author link. Your post would include this:

Phantom Warrior The Heroic True Story of Pvt. John McKinney's One-Man Stand Against the Japanese in World War II by Forrest Bryant Johnson by Forrest Bryant Johnson

It helps us see exactly what you are talking about in your post and allows memebers to find the book and author for further discovery if they so choose.

Thanks, and glad you posted this!

This is the first book of the Marcus Corvinus Mysteries, set in the 1st century - I could only compare with Steven Saylor's book.
