I haven't read the books (and won't) and I haven't watched the first and second seasons that carefully, either, so I am always asking my friend who's that guy and have I seen him/her earlier. The last season they showed as a marathon so I sort of kept up a bit better.

Third sesaon? Wait, which one just opened, third, or fourth?

Happy reading! :)

I'm planning to read the books in some point. Maybe next Summer like some one planned here as well.

I love both the tv show and the books... I feel like the characters are all interesting people, each with his own story behind his actions and thoughts. I find it really difficult to choose between them. Apart from maybe Tyrion... Okay he's my favorite! I'm attracted to intelligence in real people, so I think it's only fair that I'm attracted towards him as well. Also, Peter Dinklage (the actor right) portrays him so well! Sometimes I forget he's not REALLY Tyrion. But I actually have that with the entire tv show.. It's so well made and even if it's about politics and stuff (which usually bores me), I'm still interested and I want to know! Also: the locations!!! I don't know who's in charge of choosing the locations but, whoever you are, you are awesome.
So yes I guess I'm a fan. :D

Kim, wow, NO KIDDING. The location shots in this series are absolutely stunning. Particularly the Danaerys (sp??? lol) ones. And, Castle Black/over the wall ones too, sometimes.

The books are full of death, murder, and mayhem so I'm not surprised to hear the show is the same way.

Especially because of the fact i only saw a few episodes of the show.
Liked it so much that i decided to first dive in the books without to many spoilers, so i'm still busy reading <3
Currently on a hold though, because they take so much commitment, and i wanna enjoy them to the fullest, when i have enough time !
But i've got a feeling, there is nothing like this and will never be anything like this.
For me then ! * can't speak for others*
I dont consider myself as someone who becomes a fan of things easily, i actually can't remember the last time.
But even without watching the show and without having read the whole series yet, i dare to claim that this is one of my favorite shows/series everythingies ever :)

Abmis, that's awesome! Yes, I would imagine they do take quite a commitment, the books. I've only read 1, and that was a loooong time ago. The books are huge, yes?

I didn't want to spoiler it, but holy .... a few story lines progressed, I thought!

I believe that, even though the story is great and the books are definitely a page-turner, Martin's writing is really poor. I'm not saying they're bad (I honestly love them), but they could be a lot better in that sense.
However, the series are great in their discipline. Audiovisually speaking, the HBO production is amazing. They lack things, of course (as every book adaptation does), but they've been able to put images and sound to the books in a remarkable way.
I don't know if you'll agree with me! Last time I said this some crazy GoT fans almost killed me haha

It's been so long since I've read GoT #1 (I have a hardcover 1st edition on my shelves), that I wouldn't be able to remember what was left out, and what was done well :p.
I'm a fan of the HBO series, rather than the books, I suppose.

I do agree! The books are fun to read, but I also think it's because of the story and the characters in it, not because of any "good writing". It isn't awful, or else I would not have gone through books of 1000 pages!!, but it is nothing special.

I've read another book by Martin called Fevre Dream, about vampires. I thought that book was pretty good too.

Ep. 3."
oops. true!
Feels like last week was when the season REALLY got started ;-)

Lot of people must be too timid to come out and call it the shyt it is. That's the kindest explanation I can surmise...

I'm not a fan of Fantasy in general and do not like the Lord of the Rings, but those books really got to me. They are wonderfully complex and full of grey characters. The fantastic elements are not in the foreground. To me it's like hightened magical realism. Those books give me something to think about and to speculate. E.g. what does the title of the series really mean? In which ways can you interpret "song" and to what thing(s) does "Ice and Fire" allude to? Since there is no "official" interpretation like for most of the classics, it encourages me to think more and reflect harder.

Tyrion's champion was fighting the champion of the crown, in Tyrion's regicide trial...

Two more episodes left in the season, save them all to watch together, after finals :). That way, you end up with good grades on exams, and no waiting week to week for what happens next :D

It sucks even more now, because I love Pedro Pascal's portayal of Oberyn.
I was the last one in my family to read "A Game of Thrones." My mother and uncles would always argue about things in the book, and offer proof of why they thought this or that. I was curious, and decided to try the book out so I could join the conversation. I became hugely addicted, and read them all over a period of a couple months. I am SO impatient for the last two books to come out!
The tv show has been doing quite well in sticking to the book, mainly because George R.R. Martin is one of the driving forces behind the show. I do find, however, that there are slight differences. Nothing major like in the new Peter Jackson version of "The Hobbit" though!

(Tytti ... :D )
I read the first book (again, back in the 90s, I think), but no more of the series. The books are huge. I remember liking, not loving the book. Too many names, I think was the issue, for me.
The series is awful (killing sex killing betrayal killing ... well, you get the idea)! And I'm completely addicted!! :p
Not for the squeamish or easily offended, tho, I do have to say :D
