Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Yeah, I seems pretty emotional according to the blurb description.

Kristie | 19131 comments Does anyone have anything good for Turtle, Iguana, Albatross, Pelican, Flamingo, Whale, or Dolphin on the cover / in the title, besides Island of the Blue Dolphins?

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Kristie, I'm reading The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay by Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi for that task

And with a turtle in the cover I remember a funny and quick read The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise by Julia Stuart
It is also a white cover!

How about Charlotte Figg Takes Over Paradise (Bright's Pond #2) by Joyce Magnin ?
Like the plastic flamingo in her yard?

That is a tough one to read, isn't it? I was going to give it to you and then I pulled up the book and enlarged the cover. You might squeeze 60% out if you're lucky.

Unfortunately, I'm going to send you back to the drawing board.

Sounds fanatical.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments anyone looking for a tower of london book and ambitious enough to pick up Neal Stephensons baroque series or whstever it is called. The tower may be in other installments vut it plays a large role in Solomon's Gold (The Baroque Cycle, Vol. 3, Book 1).

message 211: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I have Quiksilver which is apparently book 1 in the baroque cycle so I'm guessing your vol 3 book is part of this one Travis ?!

message 212: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sarah, this series is so comolicated. Originally it was three parts but later it was broke into 8 parts. If you look at goodreads series of 8 books it breaks down the way I read them. I will look to see which book I read it as though.

message 213: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments It was book 5 for me now to fugure whether it was the 2nd or 3rd of the original printing

message 214: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes it does sound complicated.

message 215: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Scratch that it is volume 3 book 1 or in the 8 series set book #6

message 216: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments So it's probably the final book in the 3 book version. Not sure I'll get that far. They are all pretty chunky.

message 218: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Kristie, do you read cozy mysteries? There is a very funny series by Donna Andrews for which all the titles have birds in the name. One of the books in the series is Revenge of the Wrought-Iron Flamingos. I remember it as being good.

Florida Roadkill (Serge Storms, #1) by Tim Dorsey by Tim Dorsey would work.

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments I just stumbled across a book suitable for mountain vacation - With No Remorse. It's also set in Peru.

Book blurb starts: "His quiet vacation in the Peruvian Andes turns deadly when a Black Ops, Inc. operative rescues a stunning stranger from a mysterious train robbery and discovers she's the target of a vengeful manhunt."

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Janice, is it possible to collect all links in one post? Just thinking that if this thread is open for all of 2016 it might get tricky to find specific posts and people will likely not read through 50 pages first when they're looking for something.

message 225: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19131 comments Thanks for all the good recommendations. I can definitely read one of those. Several I'd be interested in. :)

Casceil - I do read cozy mysteries. Thanks!

For anyone that's interested, the recommendation above - The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise is set in the Tower of London.

Question - for the challenge, can tortoise be used for turtle?

message 227: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Would Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes work for red cover?

If not then I'm probably going to go with either Wicked Appetite (Lizzy & Diesel, #1) by Janet Evanovich or The Lost Dogs Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption by Jim Gorant

message 228: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments I would say all of them are really red, Stephanie.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident looks intriguing but really creepy. It's about ten friends, mostly in their twenties, all students or graduates of Ural Polytechnic Institute, who went on a hiking/camping trip together in January of 1959. All but one of them died under strange circumstances on this trip. The one survivor was saved by contracting dysentery early in the trip, and so turned back. He died in 2013 at age 75.

That has to be the reddest cover I've seen Stephanie! I think you'll be fine with Me Before You. Wicked Appetite is also red but not so sure on the one with the dog on - half of it looks orange to me.

Camilla | 2097 comments If somebody is still looking for a book set in Venice, this came up as a GR recommendation to me: Interrupted Aria. Available cheaply from Amazon. If an opera singer is considered a musician, it would work also for the musician task.

message 239: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks, Sarah. I was wondering mostly because the wording is so big on Me before you...:)

If the cover kind of screams red at you, I would say that you're safe.

Sarah | 18549 comments Can anyone recommend books with giants in them? So far my thoughts are The BFG and Odd and the Frost Giants.

message 249: by Peggy (last edited Dec 11, 2015 02:07AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The second one is probably too short Sarah. I'm going to (re)read The BFG for this task. I haven't really thought about other books for the task, although I'm sure there must be lots of fantasy with giants. Don't some Harry Potter books also have giants? I'm not sure if their role is big enough to count though.

edit: and perhaps books related to mythology? I don't have specific titles though, but it could be a starting point for a search.

message 250: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes I noticed the second option was too short after I posted it. Yes I wondered about Harry Potter but I'm not sure which ones do and which ones don't. And you'd think there would be some in fantasy books. I don't recall ever reading one though. I'll keep searching. I really want to do the Ireland task if I can.
