A book with a protagonist that has your occupation (see also The Jobs Folder)

Anyone?

No one here wouldn't happen to know a book with a protagonist that's a provider/caretaker?? I feel like I know or heard of one but I keep drawing a blank. I really appreciated if anyone can help me out with this one!

Do you mean like a medical caretaker? If so, I know Me Before You is about someone who is a caretaker for a person who was in a motorcycle accident, and The Gifts of the Body is about someone who takes care of people suffering from AIDS during the late 80s/early 90s. I've read this one and it is heart-wrenching, but also really, really well written.

Money by Martin Amis

Attachments is a great book (...in my opinion...)
Enjoy!

Thanks! I didn't even think about Steel Magnolias :)

I'm not sure if this has been answered already, but there's a non-fiction book called I Work in a Public Library. It's supposed to be funny true stories about all the weird stuff that you see working in a library

Thank you! Me before you definitely goes with my line of work but ill also look up the other book you recommend it really does sound good.
Thank you again, really appreciate the help!
Roxanne - I didn't actually LIKE this book, but Barefoot Season by Susan Mallery features a woman who is an ex-soldier and also a hotel owner (inherited from her father) - it's a small hotel so she sometimes works the front desk.

Sorry to bother, but can you give me the name of the author for Never Let Me Go(I tried looking that one up, but there's just too many with the same title)?? I'm really curious to learn about that one and I really appreciate the help!

holy cow look at that, there are over 35 books titled "Never Let Me Go" !!!
I assume she meant Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Alice, if you read paranormal romance, Kerrelyn Sparks's first book, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, has a dentist heroine. It is a funny book.

Roxanne, I recommend Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews and one of my personal favorite books (I reread it almost every year), Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff. Both books are urban fantasy, and both involve hoteliers. Both female protagonists own small hotels, but they do booking and front desk tasks.

Somebody recommended The Casual Vacancy to me, so that is what I'm using.
Any ideas for Paramedic books?

What springs to mind is Because of Winn-Dixie, because she first meets the dog in a grocery store. But none of the major characters work there. One of the characters works in a pet store though. Other characters are: a librarian and a pastor. In case anyone is looking for those ...

Yes. Try the Bubbles mystery series by Sarah Strohmeyer. It's a humorous mystery series featuring a hairstylist that would appeal to fans of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. The first one is "Bubbles Unbound".

Thanks, Kirsten! Good idea.

This isn't exactly a personal trainer, but it's what popped into my head: Charlaine Harris's "Lily Bard" series (first book: Shakespeare's Landlord involves a heroine who works as a maid, but spends a lot of time at the gym working out and practicing marital arts. I'm sure someone else can recommend something better. Try making a new post in the Jobs Folder.

Two of the characters in The Vacationers are personal trainers.
I just clicked on The Vacationers to see what it was about ... that book has some pretty funny reviews!! LOL!!!
"I kept reading in the hopes that someone would drown. "
"I guess I'm going to miss saying "god I hate this book" every 10 minutes. I can't stand it anymore. "
"This book was about as satisfying as eating a 12 pack of sugarless cinnamon gum for Sunday dinner. "

I just learned about this book Younger by Pamela Redmond Satran which is about a 40 year old woman trying to get a starting level job in book publishing, so she gets a makeover and pretends to be in her 20s. I'm just breaking into publishing myself and I'm going to use this one. It's not academic publishing (I don't think) but it could work for you too!
