Kaitlyn (kvoyce) | 3 comments I'm in publishing (academic journals but that is so specific I'm not sure I'll find anything). Any suggestions?

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments In The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Gail Wynand is a newspaper publisher.

message 55: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn (kvoyce) | 3 comments Thanks, Monica! I did go to school for journalism. And I already own The Fountainhead, I just haven't read it yet.

message 56: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 33 comments If there are any other veterinarians or vet students, the protagonist of Water for Elephants is a vet student when he runs off to join the circus, and acts as veterinarian there, which I totally did not know until I read it this year.

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments Don't forget about Dr. Doolittle.

Kira (kiraaa) | 31 comments Any books about someone who works in Communications? I guess someone who does PR, marketing or brand management might work, but I'm specifically a Communications Coordinator.

message 59: by Monica (new)

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments The protagonist of Everyone Worth Knowing, which was written by the author of The Devil Wears Prada, works at a PR firm.

I'm an engineer too! But i'm a telecommunications engineer, which difficulties a lot finding a nice book. I work directly with mobile networks, deployment and optimization, and i don't know any book about it...

As I also have a master degree in computing, maybe it would be easier to find a book about it. If someone knows any, please recommend!! :)

message 62: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee (ashleeg) Stay at home mom protagonist recommendation?

message 63: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments The homeschool experiment by charity Hawkins is what I'll go with because I'd love to homeschool but I think I'd go nuts. There's also the life I dreamed by Kari L Burke. I have read neither of these but are supposedly sahm protagonists.

Nadine in NY Jones | 9723 comments Mod
A lot of the women in Liane Moriarty's books are stay at home moms - you could read Big Little Lies

message 65: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee (ashleeg) I'll look into those! We do homeschool :-) so if it's fiction that'd be great (otherwise I read TONS of homeschooling non fiction haha

message 66: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I'm pretty sure it's fiction lol

message 67: by Marie (new)

Marie (marie123) | 39 comments I work in a copy and print shop. I was considering going broader and just looking for a character in retail. Any suggestions?

message 68: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Weber | 270 comments I'm a ghostwriter. I feel like it should be easy to find a book but I'm drawing a blank.

message 69: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I definitely remember reading about something about a ghostwriter... I'll think on it, can't remember what it was

message 70: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee (ashleeg) There is The Ghost Writer which is a 70's book, I read it years ago.

message 71: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I remember the interview on CBC radio she was talking to an author who was a ghost writer and had written a fictional novel about a writer ghost writing for a fictional celeb. I cannot find it anywhere but I will post here if I remember or find it.

Shopgirl by Steve Martin is about a young woman who works in a high-end retail store in Beverly Hills. I loved it.

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I am trying to figure out a way to organize recommendations for this category in particular. I'm thinking of opening a new folder for this topic and then having discussion threads for each occupation. The other option is a bookshelf but I'm not sure how easy that would be to organize.

Your ideas/suggestions are welcome.

message 74: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Maybe a folder then people can create discussion topics with their occupation and others can chime in with suggestions

message 75: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments I'm an administrative assistant, basically a secretary! Any ideas?!

message 76: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments One of the two protagonists in the cuckoo's calling by Robert Galbraith is an admin assistant

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments Sarah wrote: "I'm an administrative assistant, basically a secretary! Any ideas?!"

I'm the same. I think I'm either going to read The Cuckoo's Calling or Mr. Churchill's Secretary. But let me know if you find something else!

I think a folder for this category with threads for each occupation would be a perfect way to organize this topic.

message 80: by Monica (new)

Monica (booksarelove) | 121 comments I'm going to read The Second Assistant by Clare Naylor and Mimi Hare. Even though I haven't been a SECOND assistant since way back when, when I had secretarial/clerk-typist summer jobs, I've been called the equivalent of a second assistant by ignorant clients at two prior jobs. The first job was when the client thought that the office manager was the president's secretary and I was the secretary's secretary, and I had to tell him no, I was the president's secretary, and the other woman was the office manager. The second job was at a real estate firm, when the client thought that a female broker was a male broker's secretary, and I'm not exactly sure what he thought I was. I told the female broker, "That client thinks you're a secretary. You'd better straighten him out."

Another possibility is The Devil Wears Prada.

message 81: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Poltrack [book whisperer] | 194 comments I'm a traffic assistant which basically schedules commercials on TV. Not sure I'll be able to find a book... I also teach gymnastics on the side. Does anyone have any suggestions?

message 82: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Torrey Hayden is a psychologist who works with children, possibly could be close although I don't know if any of her books are in a hospital setting since she mostly works in classroom settings. I'd be interested to read any books from the pov of a worker in a mental health institution as well. I'm not one, but I find it fascinating!

message 83: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 5 comments I'm a nutritionist, any ideas??? I would also settle for personal trainer as that is what I do on the side

Nicole: Two of the characters in The Vacationers by Emma Straub are personal trainers.

message 88: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I think the main character in Delirious would count.

message 89: by Sara (new)

Sara Charlotte - check out Ghostwritten by Isabel Wolff. I've not read it yet, but I have read a few other books by her and enjoyed them. This one is on my TBR list.

message 93: by Brittani (new)

Brittani Allen | 23 comments Anyone know of any books with a vet assistant or vet tech??? I would even settle for one with a veterinarian! (I have already read water for elephants...) this ones really hard for me

message 94: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'm reading a book where the villain works in an animal clinic: Dark Corners by Ruth Rendell

message 95: by Brittani (new)

Brittani Allen | 23 comments Omg thank you! That's the closest I've gotten to this prompt lol. I'll still try to find one with a protagonist that works at a vet clinic but this is a great fall back :) is it good so far?

message 96: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Oh, yes! I love Ruth Rendell! Good luck!

If you like romance, I recommend Jill Shalvis Animal Magnetism (several of the books in this series involve vets or animal rescue people, although the vets are men, the rescue shelter owner is a woman), or Jennifer McQuiston (who IS a vet, and an infectious disease specialist with the CDC) Summer Is for Lovers which features a vet as the romantic hero

In mystery, Susan Conant has a great series revolving around dogs, and one of the characters is a vet (the protagonist's friend/boyfriend) - series starts with: A New Leash on Death

And I know this seems obvious, but just in case someone forgot, the classic veterinarian book: All Creatures Great and Small (it might be a good jumping-off place in GR to find vet books)

message 98: by Brittani (new)

Brittani Allen | 23 comments Omg you're amazing! thank you so much! idk how you found all those cuz I've been searching everywhere and all I could find was non fiction on veterinary medicine.

message 99: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments It is non fiction but James Herriot's books about being a large animal vet who goes around to farms are hilarious
