Tara Bates | 1008 comments Yeah, I'm just wondering if it will be used but I guess it doesn't matter, doesn't hurt to post it. And I misread your first one lol I thought you were going to start discussion threads with each state and thought that's a lot of work if ppl won't use it!

People are starting to use the Jobs Folder more and more now as they realize it is there - I think for the first few days it just wasn't noticed. I think it will be the same with a home state folder, it will get used more and more as it is noticed (and will be a real boon for people later so they don't have to wade through a long general discussion to look for information on a particular locale.) When you set up the "home state" folder, are you able to change the name of the general prompt discussion to be "see Home State Folder for detailed discussion" or something?

Tara Bates | 1008 comments /\ that is a great idea!

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments I've added a new folder called The Home State folder where we can start a thread for a specific state. You can find it here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Also, I've renamed (thanks, Nadine!) the folders to reflect the additional folder "A book that takes place in your home state (see also The Home State folder)" and "A book with a protagonist that has your occupation (see also The Jobs Folder)".

The murder mysteries by Louise Penny ie. "Still Life" are set outside of Montreal. I love the books and characters.

message 57: by Regan (new)

Regan (mollytornado) I live in New South Wales, Australia, so I will be reading The Shiralee by D'Arcy Niland. It's an Australian classic.

JoAnna | 84 comments Technically speaking, nations are internationally referred to as states (as in "head of state") so if someone felt like it, they could use this definition to encompass their country.

For my pick, I just finished "Friendship Bread" by Darren Gee, which is set in my home state of Illinois.

message 59: by Lyly (new)

Lyly (lldove) I'm having trouble with this one, I'm from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, I can't find much books that are set there.

message 60: by Melody (new)

Melody | 208 comments I haven't read either of these books, but Scott O'Dell of Island of the Blue Dolphins fame, wrote a YA novel about a slave rebellion on the Virgin Islands: My Name Is Not Angelica.

Famous author Alice Hoffman's most recent book, The Marriage of Opposites, takes place at least partially on St. Thomas.

message 61: by Lyly (new)

Lyly (lldove) I guess either of those will have to do even though I've never lived on either of those Islands. Would have been nice to have a book about home.

message 62: by Katie (new)

Katie | 63 comments I just googled and found a mystery called Afoot on St. Croix.

message 63: by Alice (new)

Alice I finished this challenge. For anyone living in Indiana, try True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet by Lola Douglas

message 64: by Katie (new)

Katie Shuter Rompala (dreaminginthirdperson) | 8 comments Any suggestions for Idaho?

message 65: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne M | 9 comments I chose In The Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje. It takes place in Ontario, mostly Toronto, in the 1920s and 30s.

message 66: by Riley (new)

Riley (rileyfickett) I will be reading Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick and because it's set in Winter, I'll be reading it in December. I struggled to find a title I was interested that is set in New Hampshire, but this seemed like a fun middle grade read that will be nice around the holidays.

Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick

message 67: by Christi (new)

Christi (christibooks) I read The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand.
It is sent on Nantucket Island, MA. It's a fluffy, summer chick book.

message 68: by Sara (new)

Sara (velocipedal) | 32 comments I live in California and I'll be reading a book that takes place in the precise part of San Diego where I teach. Mexican WhiteBoy

message 69: by Amber (new)

Amber | 38 comments I counted The Good Girl by Mary Kubica for this, I am from Minnesota and parts of it are set in the woods in Minnesota.

I think we should try to think of a state as a division of a country. Though, it is up to each of us. Many countries have states, provinces, counties, parishes, etc.

message 71: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I read Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber Twelve Days of Christmas for this prompt. I live in Washington State and this book takes place in Seattle.
