Rachel The book finally popped up on my available hold list at the library. I picked it up over the weekend. Need to finish reading Dangerous Creatures before jumping into The Fault in Our Stars than it's back to reading The Giver. I've already decided that I do not want to go to the movies to see The Fault in our Stars. The reason being I would like to enjoy the movie, and I would not care to have screaming fans in the background when their favorite character or scene pops up on screen. It will be DVD for me.

Louisa Knight | 156 comments That does sound like a rather good idea, I might do that to if I can resist!

Louisa, You can do it! I've been noticing a big trend now with movies. If you have not seen the movie within a weeek or two after being released good luck trying to find multiple showtimes a month later. I am having trouble myself finding showtimes for films that came out the first part of May, and I live in Dallas! Movies seem to come out now on DVD about 3 to 4 months after it was released on the big screen.

Or, if you can't resist and have the time go to the first showing on a weekday. Less people are at the movies.

Louisa Knight | 156 comments I'm going to try my hardest, also I like beings able to watch it in the privacy of my home so when I blubber like a baby no one gets to see me as a mess!!haha

message 58: by Alma (new)

Alma (almajohansson) | 8 comments I'll see the movie as soon as possible, which means at the cinema. My biggest problem with that is that I don't like it when people see me cry. It's not really a issue for me when the audience is crying or laughing ect, but if I'm alone I don't have to think about how I look and try to hold back the tears, but I can't wait for the movie to come out as DVD.

That's why you do what I did, and go to the latest showing. Almost no people there, and no one to see you walk out of the theater with tears streaming down your face! lol

message 60: by Alma (new)

Alma (almajohansson) | 8 comments Yes, that's very smart, but I really want to go to the premiere. But when we go mostly depends on my friends, because everybody has jobs over the summer so it has to fit with our schedules... But I'm hoping it's late and that the people there cries as much as I will!

message 61: by Louisa (new)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments I wouldn't worry about being the only one crying, because you definitely won't be, the whole cinema will be in tears!

message 62: by Alma (new)

Alma (almajohansson) | 8 comments That's good! Now I only have to worry about being the only one in my friend group to be crying. Two of my friends read the book, but they didn't cry and the other are guys so they'll probably be to "cool" for that ;)

message 63: by Louisa (new)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments Haha, yeah 'too cool' I just want to see them crying the most now, that would be funny!

message 64: by Alma (new)

Alma (almajohansson) | 8 comments Haha, yes! Me too ;)

Oh, they'll cry. They will be in the fetal position, hugging their pillow once they're home. They'll deny it! And that's why they'll act "too cool" for it in front of you, but oh yes, cry they will! lol

Haha I love it! Even tho I am the person who does these types of things to my friends... I caved haha. I reminded my friend, who hasn't read the book, to bring lots of tissues! she was very greatful of this haha I believe she will read the book now too.

I seem to give her so many books to read she is snowed under by my recommendations. so when my 'to read' list ticks one off she has one added :)

message 68: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments There is something great about a movie that makes you cry. Crying is just one of those things that needs to be done now and then. I dont really have a lot of things to cry about but I feel so much better after. Its like a weight has lifted from me and you can "breath" again. Does anyone else agree or am I just weird and not explaining myself right? haha

message 69: by Aimee (new)

Aimee | 29 comments I think you just summed up my feelings for any and every sad book and movies ever.

message 70: by Louisa (new)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments Haha, your not alone there! I agree with you too!

I completely lucked out with not having to deal with that problem. I also didn't want to have to put up with a bunch of people hollering and screaming, but luckily the only sounds you could even hear in the theater (and it was packed) was the sound of breaking hearts and sniffles of pain, but that's to be expected. :-P

There's also usually dollar movie theaters in most towns that will just be playing the movie when it's coming out on DVD, so there is that option if anyone has to wait later to see a movie. :-)

I at least gave her a little warning when the sad parts were coming up. She had the mile high pile of tissues I insisted on bringing in her lap, and I'd reach for one when I knew something super sad was about to happen lol.

Sheena Sam wrote: "There is something great about a movie that makes you cry. Crying is just one of those things that needs to be done now and then. I dont really have a lot of things to cry about but I feel so much ..."

I completely understand! There are times when I'm in the best of moods, but I still want to get a good cry out, so I'll go watch a sad movie or read a sad book lol.

message 76: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I've also heard mixed reviews about the movie, however going by the trailers it looks like it's going to be really good. Okay well I guess I will find this out tomorrow... I have high hopes!

message 77: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Just started reading The Fault in our Stars today, and I gotta say John Green is a great writer. He knows how to get right to the point, and is very colorful as well. It's very entertaining the dialogue between the characters. It is a very sarcastic, and dry sense of humor.

My favorite quote so far that made me laugh out loud was: "I told Augustus the broad outline of my miracle diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer when I was thirteen. (I didn't rell him that the diagnosis came three months after I got my first period. Like: Congratulations! You're a woman. Now die.)
I know it is awful laughing at that, but that last comment about her period was just hilarious...something a teenager would say.

I'm about to start chapter 4, so I can't wait to see what else happens. Now, I want to watch V for Vendetta as well...been so long since I have seen it.

message 78: by Louisa (new)

Louisa Knight | 156 comments You'll love it, but you'll most probably cry (even if you don't think your a cryer).

message 79: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments haha I laughed at that part too. Even reading it again in your message made me laugh. I think he has this way of writing to lighten a very dark subject that's refreshing.

message 80: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Yes, that's one of my favorite quotes in it too lol. Mr. Green definitely has a quirky sense of humor that's great.

That's what I thought was so great about this book and his writing. It's such a sad story, but told in such a humorous, yet realistic, way. Things were not remotely sugar coated, yet you still got a laugh out of it. :-)

Has anyone watched John Green's youtube channel? I've only watched a few videos, but they're so funny lol.

message 81: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I also had a little giggle at that part as well, there were also some other point in the book where the humor was so sarcastic that I found it rather entertaining (reminded me slightly of myself)

And yes I love watching videos on his YouTube channel every now and then, he is so entertaining!

message 82: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Afrer reading his stuff and seeing the videos and other things, I've decided he's the nerdy love of my life lol. There's just the little problem of him having a wife and kid, and me never actually getting to meet him. But I stay hopeful! lol

message 83: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments haha love how you stay hopeful with all those road blocks in your way :D

message 86: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 91 comments Clearly! True love trumps all!

message 87: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Yes, our love would conquer all! lol I try to enjoy childish fantasies whenever I can :-P

message 88: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 91 comments Hahaha ik right !

message 89: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments My fantasies of true love are one of the main reasons for my excitement over the maze runner coming out, which is not quick enough... I want it now! Dylan O'Brien though ohhhhhhhh yes. God I need teen wolf to come back so I can continue my weekly perving hahah

message 90: by Sheena (new)

Sheena When does the Maze Runner come out? I have the books bought and in my kindle, but I haven't gotten to them yet, but I of course want to read them before I see the movie.

I did see a preview for it when I went to see the TFIOS movie, and it looks like it'll be good.

message 91: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments The initial release date is September 11, so you definitely have some time!

message 92: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Thanks! I thought it was later in the year, but I don't even own a tv or go to movies often to see previews and whatnot. I just randomly find out through facebook and here that something is even being made into a movie, or was a book to begin with lol.

message 93: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments That's okay! It was actually originally supposed to come out in February of this year but it got pushed back (I'm not too sure why) That might not be an overly bad thing to be honest, more often than not the movie just isn't as good and can often be a disappointment. So a lot of the time you probably wouldn't be missing out on much! It's so interesting to read through and find out what movies or tv shows were actually books first (or vice versa)

message 94: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Well I'm the type that I HAVE to read the book first, because if I see the movie first, I'll not ever read the book. So I try my best to find out if a movie was a book before.

It's easier for me to deal with the changes from book-to-movie, but not movie-to-book. If that makes any sense lol.

message 95: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 91 comments I am like that too! The movie just ruins the book for me! Like the way I vision the characters looking like and the scenes too!

message 96: by Sam (new)

Sam | 606 comments Sometimes (very rarely) I watch the movie first. Then reading the book after is interesting as they change things, as we all know, so it's like finding treasure when you do. Getting more history or dialogue is awesome. I watched Hunger Games first then read the books. Think that's why I can enjoy them separate when reading the book or watching the film.

message 97: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 91 comments Really? I feel like the movie ruins the experience for me for some reason. Everyone has different perspectives!

message 98: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Yeah, I just can't do it that way. It would be great if I could so I wouldn't have to rush and read the books when a movie comes out next week lol. I think that, for whatever reason, I can deal with aspects being taken away (book-to-movie) since I already know the whole story, but when things are being added (movie-to-book) I'm just like, "No! That's so not how it happened!" lol. It's a purely mental thing, I know, but I can't seem to change it lol

message 99: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 91 comments Yeah same for me! I like to know the story before I see how someone else envisioned it.

message 100: by Kyara (new)

Kyara | 158 comments I know the feeling about reading the book first, I still haven't read all of divergent because I stupidly went and saw the movie first!

I'm exactly the same Sheena with the book-to-movie rather than the other way around. But watching the movie first doesn't ruin the book for me, because I don't even read the damn thing! Never will I see a movie again without reading the book first.
