Emma | 1267 comments Hey!!

message 2: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Hey, chica!

message 3: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments So is there anything else you wanted to discuss plot-wise?

message 4: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) I think your basis was really good in that respect; we can add plot twists later :)

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Okay, how do you want to do the characters?

message 6: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Simple character sheets? That's how I usually do, unless you have something else in mind?

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Nope, that's fine with me :)
You post first and I'll follow your format?

message 8: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Alright! Gimme a few :)

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Sorry, I thought I was doing the human character? But if you wanted to switch it up, maybe the princess would end up falling for a human and then her bodyguard would fall in love with the prince that my character left behind?

message 10: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Oh, so sorry! I didn't go back to look at your plot idea; I must have misremembered. No, I can change it, no problem :) So, who is it I need to do?

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Oh I'm fine to change it, whichever you'd prefer
The way I had it was that:

•Princess and bodyguard are going to prepare for the wedding (arranged marriage)

•They're caught by humans and dragged to the surface

•War between merpeople and humans

•Your character falls for a human, consequently causing drama as my character's goal is to get back to the ocean (and her fiancé)

message 12: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Ooooh, ok! Yeah, I can fix the character to be the prince! So sorry.

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Lol, no worries at all! :D

I'll get my characters up in a minute.

Emma | 1267 comments Name: Azalea Sirene

Age: 19

Appearance:

Species: Mermaid
Hair: Pale Blonde
Eyes Blue, with flecks of gold.

Personality: Lea is a very live life to the fullest kinda girl. She loves anything adventurous or dangerous that would give her a thrill. She's a risk taker and almost a bit of an adrenaline junkie. She can be somewhat of a drama queen and she doesn't care what people think of her. She is also short tempered and quick witted, and won't hesitate if she's in a fight. Despite all of this, she is actually very intelligent, and has good problem-solving skills and common sense. Lea is also a very loyal and caring friend, who will always have your back. Even though she may be reckless and care free, she is always true to her word. She loves meeting new people and making new friends, you can never have too many friends. Lea is very defensive and will not hesitate to punch you back if in a fight. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side if I were you.

History: Growing up, Lea had everything she could ever want. As a princess, however, she didn't have many freedoms or friends, and has spent her entire life thinking of the greater good, what will be best for the kingdoms. Her best friend was actually her bodyguard as well, Lila, and they are about to leave their kingdom to go and prepare for Lea's wedding.

corina (molteneyes) Name: Dorian Stormborn

Age: 21

Appearance:

Species: Merman
Hair: Dirty blonde
Eyes: Dark blue

Personality and History: Dorian has always had a strong sense of who he is and what he's supposed to do with his life. Take over the kingdom after his father and protect it at all costs. He knows that it is not an easy time for merpeople, but he would do everything in his power to keep his kingdom safe. His parents were very non-restrictive while Dorian was young, but raised him with all the ideals and preconceptions they thought he would need later in life. The freedom allotted to him left him content with his life, and has let him be able to turn his attention to more important matters now. He has a strong sense of honor and duty, and sometimes can be a little blinded by just how deep this honor and duty was hammered into him at a young age.

corina (molteneyes) Name: Lilah

Age: 20

Appearance:

Species: Mermaid
Hair: Brown of varying shades
Eyes: Hazel with dark green

Personality and History: Lilah was orphaned at a young age from causes unknown. She never knew her parents; she doesn't even have a last name. By a stroke of good fortune, the reigning king and queen had a young girl, about Lilah's age, and were looking for a friend and bodyguard for the young princess. Lilah was taken in and raised alongside the princess. She learned combat skills quickly and adeptly, occupying her role easily. Her pretty looks proved helpful, as they often caused others to underestimate her. And despite the innocent looking face, Lilah is merciless in battle. She would do anything for the princess.
Lilah is generally a very nice and friendly girl, but is careful to keep the distinction between her job and her own time clear. She knows by whose hospitality she is not out on the streets. She's easy to talk to, but when the time calls, she gets to business quickly and efficiently. She is surprisingly ruthless in battle. She keeps a clear head in rough situations, and her actions, rather than being rash or impulsive, are simply her quick-thinking. Lilah rarely loses her temper, so when she does, she must be furious. She has a bit of a dirty mouth, since as a child she split her time between Lea and training, and training usually involved rough merpeople and a different set of rules than the royalty's part of the castle. But it was a loving community, these rough and tumble guardsmen and swordsmen, and they mostly saw her as a little sister. She knows many of them well.

Emma | 1267 comments Name: Lucas Merryweather

Age: 20

Appearance:

Species: Human
Hair: Light Brown
Eyes: Green

Personality/History: Lucas is a quiet person, and he spends a lot of time with himself. He's a bit antisocial in that regard, although he does have a few close friends. He's very smart, and works as a model most of the time, but also interns in a marine biotic lab.

message 18: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) So, would you like to start? :)

message 19: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Sure, I can start :)

message 20: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Ok :)

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Lea looked back at the large underwater castle for a moment as she and Lila swam off together, on their journey to Dorian's kingdom. It wouldn't take them that long, she didn't think, just over five hours of swimming, if they moved quickly. She was wearing one of her more practical tops for the occasion; she would look horrible and tired when she arrived no matter how good she looked when she left, so Lea had decided to not go to much effort, and she wore a simple light green bandeau. She had a small bag with a few other tops and some jewelry in it but she had been told not to bring much; Dorian's kingdom would have everything and anything that she needed.

message 22: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah traveled even lighter, no extra clothes or jewelry, her only baggage the multitude of inconspicuous weapons strapped to her forearms and hanging at her hip. Even her braid was held together by a small, versatile knife that doubled as a hairpin. Pausing for a second as Lea turned to look back at their home, Lilah fixed one of the straps on her top, loosening it slightly. "Ready?"

message 23: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments Lea shrugged. "What should I be ready for?" She asked with a light smile, pushing her bag higher up on her shoulder. Her hair was up in a high bun, she had her things, and there was nothing left to do before they left. So, she flicked her tail to one side and then the other, and started to swim.

message 24: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Pushing off with a powerful stroke of her tail, Lilah caught up to Lea quickly, and then turned so that she was swimming facing her friend. She shrugged back. "Leviathan? Floating pie? Some pie would be nice," she mused. "You never did tell me why your parents decided not to come."

message 25: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "The leviathan isn't real, I'm not afraid of sharks, pie would be nice, and I don't think anyone would dare attack the merprincess." Lea said with a faked accent and haughty air. "But mum and dad decided not to come in order to give me some "private time" with Dorian. They'll be there for the wedding, of course--they have to be, but that's why we're going alone right now." She told her bodyguard, diving a few feet to avoid a school of fish.

message 26: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah grinned wickedly at "private time." Not bothering to move out of the way of the fish, instead letting them filter around her, Lilah called down, "Besides, even if they did dare attack you, they wouldn't get too far before they found their tail fin in their mouths." The joking threat slid out easily. "How much private time exactly?"

message 27: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "I guess whatever it takes to make it un-awkward. I mean, like, we've met and we like each other, but "we like each other" isn't exactly what you want to look for in a committed relationship, even if it is an arranged marriage." Lea responded as she swam back upwards. "And I'm pretty sure everyone in the ocean knows to fear for their lives should they ever come near me." She laughed lightly and attempted to push a stray piece of hair behind her ear, although there was probably nothing that she could do about it at that point.

message 28: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah grimaced. "I admire your fortitude in the matter. Truly, it amazes me. If someone tried to make me marry a stranger, I'd go crazy." She shook her head, an amused look on her face, and smiled at Lea. Most merpeople would trade places with Lea in a second, but Lilah knew what Lea's life was like and what went on behind closed doors. She was perfectly happy right where she was. Of course, the bonus to living at court was all the good food.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Well it's what I have to do. I mean, we need to unite the kingdoms if we want to survive long term, and me getting married is the best way to do it, I guess." Lea finished uncomfortably, talking about it meant that she had to think about it and...well she really wasn't as strong and calm as she let people think. Actually, she was really stressed, and worried.

message 30: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Hey, it'll be ok," Lilah said, reaching out a hand and brushing Lea's shoulder. Sometimes she could see glimpses of the real Lea beneath the strong, confident exterior, but only because she had known Lea for so long. Anyone else would have seen the princess, swimming to her arranged marriage, knowing and confident in what she was doing. Lilah saw the mermaid still growing into her job, wanting a taste of freedom.

message 31: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Yeah. Just keep swimming, right?" Lea said, moving a little faster and stretching her arms out, almost tired already. Well, not really. But she certainly wasn't looking forward to the rest of the swim. They were already pretty far from the castle and merkingdom, and the chunks of coral and reef were starting to spread out a bit more. Lea flipped onto her back and swam backwards for a few minutes, looking up at the shadows cast down by the various boats above them.

message 32: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Exactly," Lilah replied, smiling slightly. She dipped down to brush her hand over a row of pink coral, and then swam back up to Lea's height. "So, how is he?" She had to pass the time somehow, and gossip was just as good a way as any.

message 33: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Well we'll find out when we get there, won't we?" Lea said teasingly, she was pretty sure that Dorian was more worried about her journey than she was. Of course, she didn't know that...was it weird for her to hope that he was worried about her? Because that would definitely mean he cared, at least enough to be close friends.

message 34: by corina (last edited Apr 13, 2014 03:07PM) (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Oh, you wound me," Lilah said jokingly. "Don't you trust me? Anyways... You think you could be happy with him?" The question was a serious one, and Lilah genuinely wanted to know. Her friend's happiness was something that would always be important to her. And if Dorian didn't make Lea happy, Lilah saw it as her job to make sure he made Lea happy. She dove a little, twisting upside down to face Lea as they swam.

message 35: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Do I have any choice? And....Yes, for the most part. I hope." She said, mostly to herself, but shill loud enough for Lilah to hear her. She adjusted her top, pulling it up over her chest a bit more. "How long have we been swimming?" She asked, not because she was tired, but because she had forgotten to keep track...again.

message 36: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah nodded, hearing the small note of doubt and apprehension in Lea's voice. "Only about half an hour. Another... four and a half to go! Aren't you excited?" she asked with faked, wide-eyed, little kid excitement as she flipped back over to swim normally.

message 37: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Oh my god, I can barely contain myself." Lea said flatly. "This is gonna suck. Four endless hours of swimming, dodging fishermen and rogue scuba divers...ugh." Although it hadn't been in her lifetime, Lea knew from her grandparent's stories that life had been much better before humans had started to learn about the ocean.

message 38: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "And scientists." Lilah shuddered, fiddling with the knife strapped to her toned upper arm. "I know a girl, Carrie, she's missing half of her fin, says some biologists caught her and tried to figure out how it was even possible that mermaids existed. And now she's blind because of some test they ran on her. Poor girl." Lilah shook her head sadly, disgust for the human race plain on her face.

message 39: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Oh, good god. Have they no souls? No sense of moral obligation? We exist, and that's that. It really drives home how important it is to stay hidden though." Lea said, and shuddered, imagining that sort of thing happening to her, or Lilah. She would definitely keep an extra wet out for boats thanks to that.

message 40: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah shook her head again. "I just don't understand. They're so curious they forget what morality even is. And I couldn't agree more. It's a good thing we're still quite far from shore." Lilah left the fact that the shortest route to Dorian's kingdom, took them right past a heavily-populated peninsula. This was the part of the journey that worried Lilah the most. But unless they wanted to stay a night somewhere, it was their only choice.

message 41: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Ah well. That land-bound section is in about 45 minutes, right? We'll just zoom through there, with luck, and keep going on our merry way." Lea said, although now that they were discussing it she was starting to worry a bit. It was funny how that worked, as soon as she started to think of it she really started to worry.

message 42: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Yeah, we can race through that; get out of there as fast as we can." Lilah readjusted the strap on her top, wishing she had gotten Marie to loosen it a bit before they left. Other than that, the simple dark blue midriff baring top was comfortable and stretchy enough to allow her flexibility in case of any... emergency.

message 43: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "I'm sure it'll be just fine. And we'll have nice, warm beds and good food when we get there, yeah?" Lea said optimistically, trying to lighten the mood. Worrying and overthinking what might happen would only make them paranoid, make it more likely to happen through some sort of weird, messed up thought-karma.

message 44: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Right," Lilah said confidently. But despite her hope nothing would happen, she was, as she should always be and always was, ready for anything. Even some crazy merman with a plan for assassination. "I'm still thinking about that pie. They better have some pie."

message 45: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "I will personally request a pie for you, how's that?" Lea told her friend with a laugh. And honestly, anything that she asked for, anywhere, was guaranteed to get done, that was one of the perks of being a princess. If Lea asked for 12 dozen pies to be delivered to her bodyguards room at 3 in the morning, then it would get done; just because she asked for it.

message 46: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Least I deserve for getting your tail out of so many scrapes," Lilah teased, laughing as well. Lea was one of the only people she felt truly comfortable around and able to be herself, though it was only when they were alone. When other people came into the picture, she had to become the stoic bodyguard with one purpose: keep the princess alive.

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "Do you remember the time that I almost lost my tiara and we spent almost two days awake just looking for it?" Lea said, remembering the time a few years ago when she had lost track of time and what she was doing and had started swimming with dolphins. But somewhere in that time the tiara that she barely ever wore fell off. Terrified that she had actually lost it, Lea had rushed to find Lilah and the two of them had looked until they found it.

message 48: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "I had so much caffeine after that," Lilah said with a nostalgic smile. "It was the one with the pink pearls ringing it, right? You stopped wearing it a week later because you decided it didn't compliment your skin tone." It was so long ago, when they were barely ten or so, but even then they had shared a strong bond, the type close friends had.

message 49: by Emma (new)

Emma | 1267 comments "It didn't. Especially with all the pale colours I wore at that age? Ugh, I looked completely washed out, all the time, and of course I never even noticed." Lea complained. It was incredible how she could go around thinking that she looked amazing, then look at herself a second time and realize, or think that she looked horrid.

message 50: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lilah laughed softly. "At least you know better now. Plus, even in those pastel shades you still looked pretty. I could only wish for your complexion," she said, glancing down at her own tanned midriff. She wasn't jealous, though, and would never begrudge Lea anything at all. Lilah was perfectly content with who she was.
