Kenna (kennas) Im not so sure about the harder edge for Eric, Lauren. Im trying to find my first book so I can reread the series while im impatiently waiting for the next books. I THINK that before memory loss, Eric had very little control for Sookies outbursts and just enough patience for her off the vampire wall requests because she interested him. After amnesia however, we see a softer side to Eric who now goes out of his way to protect and see to her needs.

As I said, Im trying to reread the books but I think I may have been on crack one day and lent that first one out to someone.

Im kidding about the crack part. Honest.

message 52: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I can see what you're saying Kenna- there is definately an evolution in the books from hard to soft but I just feel it is more so in the series. For instance Eric not staking Longshadow- I feel like he had a little more interest than they portray in the show however it is starting to come through more (his curiosity with her over Lafayette). Also them showing him calling Lorena- not something you would have seen in the books. I'd like to see more of his flirtatious side in the show though- it's there but not fully exposed yet.

message 53: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) If you lent it out, there was definitely crack involved.

He was pretty tolerant with her from the beginning, because he wanted to bed her from the beginning! Floating outside her window at the hospital in the first book, going along with the whole idea to give the culprit to the cops, giving her some flowery crazy apology for the maenad attack in the beginning of the second. He was intimidating as hell, but still flirty. :)

I'm serious about the crack.

Heh heh.

I think Eric's much darker, but part of that is because we're seeing more of what he does when Sookie's not around. Show Eric still isn't as flirty as book Eric would be at this point.

message 54: by CindyToo (new)

CindyToo | 107 comments The Eric/Bill thing is a little too mixed up for me and Bill has gotten too much of Eric's good parts. And poor Sookie. She gets so pissed at Eric regarding Lafayette that the writers must have thought they had to change one of my favorite lines that shows what a good sense of humor she has: "Like a fungus?" "I'd prefer cancer" is just not that funny.

message 55: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Cindy, that is so true. I'd prefer cancer was not funny. Where's the sassy in that? She's a sarcastic lil thang in the books. Instead the scene called for her to be a straight-up bitch.

You know, they seem to be leaving all the funny to Jason and Jessica. Sookie hasn't gotten many comedic moments, has she?

message 56: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I find Arlene pretty funny as well- she's spot on in my mind!

message 57: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Arlene hardly gets mentioned...I think she's close to what most of us envisioned!

message 58: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I just hope Arlene doesn't end up like the character in the book. In particular, in the most recent book. What a long way for her character to fall...

The actress is married in real life to Michael Emerson who plays Ben on Lost. I watched an interview with the two of them a few months ago... they are so cute together. She's naturally a blonde.

message 59: by Kenna (last edited Jul 23, 2009 06:07PM) (new)

Kenna (kennas) Well, in the case of the show, FOTS has already hit Bon Temps in the case of Jason. Since they’ve changed so much about his character perhaps that will be the Arlene substitute. If I was Jason, by the time I got out, Id make sure that no one else joins. Especially considering All Togethers’ plot.

Also, I too agree that she is well cast. (Oh, Look at that sentence sounding all educated and stuff)

message 60: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 193 comments Arlene is portrayed exactly the way I pictured, but isn't quite the physical look I had envisioned. Of course, she works amazingly for the part anyway.

message 61: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) For those who watch Lost, I wonder if she turns to her husband in bed and asks, but really, Ben, why are you so evil?

Kenna (kennas) Michelle M. wrote: "For those who watch Lost, I wonder if she turns to her husband in bed and asks, but really, Ben, why are you so evil?"

Because it gives him a premedicated opportunity to be a dick?

message 63: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

I've only seen the first series so far because thats all that is realeased here in Australia so far but I have to say that I am most happy with Eric and Pam (compared to the books that is), they were almost what i was expecting so i'm still able to love Eric and find Pam hilarious. I have to say i'm not happy with Sookie in True Blood, she is so different and not in any good ways. I do like Lafayette too, i like that they gave him more of a role in the TV series.

message 65: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Sarah I just love Sarah. She is nuttier than a fuitcake. And as revealed in his past this last episode. Bill used to be one bad ass vampire. I wonder what happened to turn Bill into Mr. nice guy?

message 66: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I am very curious about that as well Cary! Just watched the latest episode at lunch to today and those flashbacks were quite interesting....

message 67: by Cary (last edited Jul 27, 2009 03:45PM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) No kid I was in shocked to see nice guy Bill just as wicked as they come. Something happened to split him and Lorena up and turn Bill into a nicer guy. What really suprised me was that just because Lorena was Bills maker and older she could so easily overpower him. No I understand what Eric meant about Godrich being so powerful. Godrich could take down Eric. That scene caused me to rethink the whole situation on TrueBlood

message 68: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) I think they'll go with the same traitor from the books, but who knows.

I'm also very interested to see how the change came about in Bill's character and in his relationship with Lorena. He certainly seemed to relish being a bad ass in Lorena's flashback.

And his maker being able to physically restrain him without expending any effort was very interesting indeed.

Seeing this other side of Bill is fantastic. But Eric's involvement is still bugging the crap out of me.

message 69: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Michelle who was that traitor exactly I forget.

message 70: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Spoilers for Living Dead in Dallas.

Cary, it was Hugo! He was a lawyer who represented in the vamps when people contested them living in the neighborhood. He became Isabelle's boyfriend, got addicted to vamp sex, and started to feel guilty and conflicted and so he betrayed them to the fellowship. When he brings Sookie to the church, he expects to be let go, but is imprisoned too, much to his consternation, and ends up in the cell with Farrell. Both Hugo and Isabelle are punished by Stan at the end.

message 71: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Ah I remember now much thanks. Isabelles boy friend was acting kinda sneaky. I bet it is Hugo fer sure.

I especially enjoyed watching Lafayette's reaction after he took Eric's Blood. A few of my co-works thought this was he's best performance yet. For once I am happy that they didn't kill him off like Charlaine Harris did in her book. But his character has changed. I'm not sure if its for the best, especially if he's not the same Lafayette that we all have grown to love. It will be interesting how this pans out for the rest of the season. I have just began reading "Death to the World", already I am loving it.

Jessica
Lafayette
Tara
Sam
Eric
Bill

no sookie......

message 74: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Well I was worried Lafayette who is about my favorite character on TrueBlood might loose the mojo that made him the old Lafayette. However Pams visit to Lafayette to put him back in bidness. Will also bring back the old Lafayette.

ya....but if you wre chained up and saw someone get ripped to shreds and get shot and get bitten and drank by 3 vamps.....would you go back to being yourself rite away????

message 76: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Aj, don't forget that he had to gnaw on that ripped-apart dude's bone. After digging that bone out of the flesh. :)

message 77: by Kenna (new)

Kenna (kennas) After that, Id be a vegitarian. I probably couldnt even work in that kitchen, looking at all that raw hamburger. Gross.

Thanks cuz I was gonna ask the same question ;) Geesh my memory sucks :( hee hee

message 81: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) yeah my long term memory is good. I can remember things 40 years ago in detail. But not what happened day before yesterday. Van Helsing is on FX Wed night at 6:00 central. Its an Ok vampire flick.

message 82: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Hugh Jackman AND Kate Bekinsale. Eye candy for everyone!

message 83: by Cary (last edited Jul 29, 2009 08:07AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) I do not think Hugo is the traitor. I watched the episode last night. Sookie read Hugos mind and Hugo had nothing but love for Isabelle and no regrets. He talks latter to Sookie about ever wanting to be turned. Hugo is getting old and does not want Isabelle to loose interst in him. He is deffinitly not the snitch in TrueBlood. Rev Newlin got a cellphone call just before he changed attitude and threw Sookie and Hugo down the stairs. Its somebody else. The cowboy dude Stan? Eric is looking at him talking to him in the previews and saying. "I better not find out you had anything to do with Godrichs disapearance." Luke and Jason what a pair talking about sin. According to Luke having sex with a vampire is worse than beastiality and insest,LOL. But the very worst says Luke. Is getting it on with a gay vampire. That is irridemable. Oh my that show cracks me up. Sarah I love you where ever you are. Whoo!

The Flooze (the_flooze) LOL!

message 86: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (lettalady) | 2 comments Although I realize that my adoration of Eric mostly results from the way he is portrayed in the books, he is my favorite character in True Blood - with Lafayette coming in close second. Never could get over Bill's motives for getting to know Sookie... and despite Bill's repeated devotions, Eric was usually the one to give Sookie what she needed (be that a touch-up on her driveway or what have you).

Looking purely at the television show, Jessica is a welcome addition. Very funny!

Aj | 40 comments Cary wrote: " I do not think Hugo is the traitor. I watched the episode last night. Sookie read Hugos mind and Hugo had nothing but love for Isabelle and no regrets. He talks latter to Sookie about ever wanting..."

i think it was the other telepathic...because in episode 55. he said he listens to the vamps thoughts.....

message 88: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Cary, in the books, Hugo is conflicted about his whole circumstance. He loves her in the books, too, but still betrays them!

But you're right about that Stan-Eric moment in the clip for the next episode. They might change some of the roles there.

Aj, do you mean Barry? That would be a huge plot change. I don't recall him saying on the show that he could read vamps. Have you gotten through the whole series of books?

message 89: by Aj (new)

Aj | 40 comments ya....but its been a while since i have read them...... but the show DID change quite a bit in the first season...and in the first half of the second season...so...

message 90: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Oh, they've changed a lot, certainly! I guess I personally think Barry plays an important role for Sookie along the way so I'm reluctant to think of them completely skewing his story!

message 91: by Aj (new)

Aj | 40 comments haha... i know.....but wouldn't that be such a huge twist.....

I follow you Michelle none the less when Sookie and Hugo where looking at the Church and Rev Newlin was all cool with them until he got a cellphone call, and then his whole demenor changed. He had Hugo and Sookie taken into the basement. The traitor is not Hugo but whoever made that cell phone call to Rev Newlin. This is TrueBlood not the Sookie books. So the traitor could be anyone. But it is not Hugo. Possible snitch suspects, Stan who is a cowboy underling of Godrichs. Eric seems to think Stan is the man. However Stan has to much to loose. I think it is Isabelle herself who wants to be Sheriff and not just Godrichs partner/assistant. Isabelle could be Sheriff and have her human lover by her side. She would turn him into a vamp immediatley upon the removal of Godrich. It's TrueBlood no telling what could happen. =)

message 93: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Did Gabe show up before or after Newlin got the call? I don't remember...

message 94: by Cary (last edited Jul 30, 2009 11:01AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) Is Gabe Newlins drill instructor? He was summoned by Newlin I think just after the Rev recieved the cell phone call. I am going to watch that espisode on more time,LOL

message 95: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Yes, the drill instructor.

message 96: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Well Gabe is not the snitch. I am petty sure its Isabelle. Gabe is just Newlins muscle and not real bright either. Sarah Newlin is really a crazy sexy chic who just blows my mind. I cannot wait for the nex episode.

message 97: by CindyToo (new)

CindyToo | 107 comments I thought the phone call was from Gabe letting Newlin know he was on the way to provide the muscle, because you know the little guy wouldn't have been able to throw Sookie down the stairs let alone Hugo.

message 98: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Then who let Gabe know there where bad guys in the church. Newlin did not know Sookie was an infiltrator till he got that phone call. If I remember right after he got the call he had Gabe come over and let Gabe know what was up. I still think the snitch is one of the vamps. Not Hugo either. I am still going with Isabelle as the informer

message 99: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) That's what I thought, too, Cindy.

message 100: by Becky (last edited Jul 30, 2009 03:16PM) (new)

Becky | 93 comments i think the rat is stan. he acted in the last episode like he didnt care for politics. or at least godricks politics. i think he is setting godrick up so he can take over. he knows eric is VERY loyal to godrick so he throws him in to get him out of the way.

and my fav is eric with jessica a close second

sookie needs to take it up a couple notches...she is losing alot of fans
