As parents, we teach our children to respect and listen to our superiors and elders for one specific reason that Frost touches on: “there’s something the dead are keeping back” from those too ignorant to listen. See in this society, we continue to strive for excellence and success and money in order to keep ourselves in the position of power and authority. Frost believes this is all wrong. He alludes to this by saying that we should be listening and being aware of the mistakes of the past and taking the time to care and study our past ancestors to learn how to make the present and future better. I agree with Frost. History shows humanity time and time again that every war that was fought and every depression we have suffered is because we keep on making the same mistake of pushing the limits in not just our money, but also our strife for ourselves to become number one overall other nations and people groups. However, no one seems to really care because even if they do study the mistakes of Hitler in the Holocaust for example, we still in today’s world do the same thing to Christians and other religions in other countries in the Middle East and in Asian countries. Frost’s point in this quote is urging humanity to take a step back, remember the past, and learn for the hope of making a better future for all.
