I usually weigh after I've worked out for the day in the morning. I had two cups of water or so when I was working out...

TMI, I'm sure but I didn't have to go until much later, too.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I wish I had time to work out in the morning, but that only happens on weekends. Saturday is my off day from Insanity, I do 8am yoga instead. Sunday I work out before church. The rest of the week I have to work too early.

I only have 3 more weeks of insanity after this one.. I need to decide what I'm doing next. I won't give up. I'm thinking I might get T-25 (expensive, but I do like Shawn T) or maybe just take up jogging (free but I do hate jogging).

Maybe I'll do both :P

Well, that depends on what you want your body to look like. :-D I like running but I get horrible shin splints.

I was looking at some pics of myself before I injured myself and started the medication. WOW. I looked so much better than I thought I did at the time. And waaaaaaaay better than I do now. :( But I can now appreciate what I couldn't back then. I guess.

I decided I want the body of a fitness model with the flexibility of a ballerina. :-D I think I have my work cut out for me.

Agreed.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Stupid. Weighed in today. Up another 0.6 lbs. So I'm 129.6.

And I know the weight doesn't matter, if I'm losing inches and getting stronger.. But here's the things about measurements. I don't know if they are getting bigger, smaller, or staying the same because I can never convince myself that I am measuring in the same place every time.

And I can't tell if my clothes are getting tighter because I can never remember how tight they used to be. They still fit... But they definitely are not looser. They wouldn't fit if I weighed 129.6 before I worked out.. They wouldn't fit if I weighed 127 before I was working out. But still.. I expected bigger results. I am disappoint.

Fiance says I look better, but of course he says that. I don't quite know how to believe him.

Oh well.. Not giving up.. Just hating this. I mean come on... I burned 650 calories in my hellish work out yesterday. That's a shit ton! Ate 1600, deficit of 500, I should be burning fat but I just gain and gain. And I know.. Water weight, muscle, etc. etc. etc. But come on! It's consistently went up every damn time for the past few months. There are only so many excuses I can make. I guess I'm just not trying hard enough.. But I don't have anything else to give :(

Bah! I hate the scale. Everything is stupid :P

message 208: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I know how you feel. :(

But you should feel good because you know that you are fitting into clothes that you wouldn't if you were lighter. That's great! Of course, your body will change some. I have this brown dress that's really cute but I can't wear it (before I gained even) because my arms got biceps that I'd never had before.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I was running around crazy yesterday and didn't get a chance for lunch. All day like a crazy person with barely a chance to cram a snack in. I was starving all day but when I weighted myself I'd GAINED weight. :-(

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I guess I did lost weight from the 129.6 I was up to.. I was 128 this morning. And today is my insanity fit test, so I'll see if I'm improving fitness wise tonight.

Two weeks left of insanity.. Although I have to take a few days off this week because of a medical procedure I'm having done. So more like 2.5 weeks, and then I'm done.

I found a copy of T25 on ebay and picked it up. That'll be my next thing. I tried running.. My joints can't handle it. T25, along with my yoga and zumba classes, will hopefully be just fine. It's going to be nice to go from 1 + hour insanity work outs to 25 minute work outs!

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I was on something like a vaca for the last week. I refused to weigh myself (well, I did it once but it was an old scale so it made me look like I'd lost 2 lbs).

I only worked out three times during the entire time but I did try to walk a lot. I didn't eat like a crazy person at first. But after some time its hard to regulate what you eat when you're not at home.

I'm not due to weigh myself again until next friday.

Jackie (thenightowl) Yes, I just got mine last Saturday. :) Already addicted. I joined 3 groups. A local CT one, one for colored women since I couldn't find a Latina one and a Dirty 30's one. I'm not really feeling the groups...well, except for the CT one. I've added some friends from that group. The colored women one seems a little too competitive for me, so I think I might drop it.

message 223: by Jackie (last edited Jun 02, 2014 10:21AM) (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) LOL! I have a desk job too and I'm finding it hard to reach 10,000, especially since I haven't been formally working out. Prior to fitbit I would take the stairs whenever possible and did the whole parking far away thing. But, even with that I don't walk enough. Since fitbit, I've taken to walking around my apartment, running in place while watching TV, dancing while cooking and brushing my teeth and getting up more during work hours. I've been able to get to 10,000 most days by doing that. I think it's worked because I managed to lose another 1 lb in the last week. My trip to NY inflated my numbers. I logged in 13,000+ two days in a row.

Don't start walking your fitbit at your desk! LOL!

message 224: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Haha. I'm not too worried about the walking, honestly. I get about 7,500 a day... But then I'm doing Insanity which isn't walking, but I burn 500 - 700 calories with the work outs now. Walking be damned! Ain't nobody got time for that after Insanity. Or like... The ability to walk.

message 225: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Yeah, I haven't joined another gym yet, so I need to figure out what to do. Weather permitting I'm going to try walking/running outside or doing one of my Zumba vids. I want to increase my 'very active minutes' to at least 30 minutes every day. I'm trying to mimic the concept behind the 21 day Beach Body Challenge. I'm too cheap to pay for the whole kit right now though. lol.

I'm SO going to modify this. This was done with 12 y/o in mind. My 30+ year old knees would not do 250 squats unless it included money. Like millions of dollars, lol. To pay for the required knee surgery afterwards.

message 230: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Good luck! I started a squats challenge last month and lasted a good week before my knees started giving out.

I did one for...I want to say 3 weeks before my knees were done. But that was a max of 60 or so a day.

This? Not happening. But the guy who made this is young and kinda pervvy - he's just trying to build his dream woman from the butt up, lol. He doesn't take into account age very often. If you look at his site it's mostly pretty and young women pictured.

One of my friends on Fito is doing it with me. I *think* we are close in age...so I'll see how well she makes it - but she is a beast so I won't be surprised if she knocks it out.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments At lunch yesterday they were talking about a 30 Day "guns, buns & abs" challenge - it's all squats, push-ups and leg lifts.

I started Day 1 today - 10 squats, 5 push-ups, 15 leg lifts

Day 30 is, like, 100 squats and leg lifts and I forget how many pushups.

I'm gonna try - but I'm probably gonna crap out around Day 15 - if I get that far! :-/

Wow! that sounds hard core. I suck at push ups.

What kind of leg lifts? The kind where you lay on your back and raise your legs (flat)?

I did 3 push-ups okay this morning, but struggled with the last two.

My work-friends said they think day 30 is 40 push-ups so, yeah... that's probably not happening.

And, yeah, those are the leg lifts they mean, from what I'm told.

We were just discussing/debating about whether they can be done in sets or should be done all at once. Like, for day 30, can we do half the set in the morning and half in the evening?

message 235: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) They were discussing that challenge on GMA this morning, Colleen. I didn't get to see it though because I was leaving the house, but I'm going to try to catch it online. I thought it was okay to split it though, from what I've read. The point is that you do it.

You will be surprise with pushups. I hate to do them, but when I was pledging for my sorority in college I was forced to do them as part of the process. I could barely get through two in the beginning, but by the end I could do a solid 25-30 before pooping out. I actually started to see definition in my arms, which is quite the accomplishment because my arms are weak and flabby as hell. Anyway, stick with it and you'll get there.

I'd break them into sets and try to do each set to failure. Or pick a set number and bang it out.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Jackie wrote: "I thought it was okay to split it though, from what I've read. The point is that you do it."

Ok, cool.

My thing is my only exposure is through the lunch ladies, and a copy of the chart. I haven't seen any of the details - and the lunch ladies aren't always the most reliable of sources...

Anyway, looking forward to getting rid of those bat wings!

But I think I'm definitely gonna end up doing sets by the end. It's the only way, especially with my knees and the squats.

message 238: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I find sets to be preferable. Sets in low numbers with additional stress added each time increases strength.

Sets done in high numbers with/without additional stress added increases endurance more so than strength.

With push ups I seriously suck - so I'd go for low sets (like 10 a pop) because after that my form crumbles and I'm doing some weird swan/duck thing with my back while resting on toes and hands. O_o

Re: batwings You know whats great for those but seriously are a PIA? Those tricep exercises where you stick your arm straight behind you while bent at the waist and lift a dumbbell. I use like 2-3 lbs and it kills me.

Yes. I do own a 2lb dumbbell. It is not pink.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments O.M.G.

I am wiped.

Right now I'm doing 3 days of weightlifting and 2 days of cardio.

For cardio I've been doing this DVD: Tight Buns and Killer Legs http://www.amazon.com/The-Firm-Tight-... and it's been whooping my ass. I can go jog for over a mile and sweat less than this 30 min DVD. But it's an all lower body workout.

So then hubby asks me to go jogging with him last night. 1.65 miles. By the end I was so drained. My legs hurt, I have shin splints and my IT Band feels sore. So do my quads.

O_O Not. Good.

But today was a weightlifting day. The only reason I got it done was pure habit - I had no motivation. I performed all reps & sets but I still feel wiped. I have to spend a lot of time stretching and foam rolling this weekend.

message 243: by Karen (new)

Karen | 55 comments I read all your exercise posts in awe. My "exercise" is physiotherapy - and even that is a rocky road. One step forward, two back experience for the last few years. I am trying to be patient because at present I am trying to rehab after surgery on my left knee. It's a process since this is coming after 2 surgeries on my right knee in years gone by and cervical spine surgery in 2011.

So, since exercise isn't (yet) my first line of attack I need to pay closer attention to diet. I know that means I need to plan my meals and make time to cook. I live alone and if I don't do that - well take out and junk food are just so easy. I'm thinking maybe I could do some cooking and freezing on the weekends. Anybody have any experience with what foods lend themselves well to this? (I'm a vegetarian so meat isn't a consideration). Everything takes longer on crutches so I figure I need to strategize this! (Plus - I'm a nerd, I can't help but like plans). This is unfamiliar territory so any ideas are welcome :)

I cook a lot like that - I try to cook things for almost a week at a time.

I try to cook 2 proteins, two veggies and one starch. I prefer to bake and/or use my crock pot - it's so much more simple. I'm not a Vegetarian so I'm no help with that. I could possibly give you some recipes but most of them are things I use as sides.

Sides are great too :) If I need to, I can up protein by adding, nuts, eggs, beans etc.

Question: when you cook like that for a week, do you freeze or do you find refrigeration does the trick? I am a little unsure about freezing veggies.
