Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Feeling good today.. I'm at 125.8 lbs, which isn't a loss since the start, but it's a loss for the last two weeks where I've been up to and hovering at 127 - 128 lbs. Did my measurements yesterday and they are mostly down. I feel stronger.. Not strong, but honestly stronger than I've ever been in my life (I'm a life long couch potato so ya know..).

And the best part?

 photo Capture_zpsee47f19f.png

Last week I moved into the "Active" category! ACTIVE! No more sedentary for me :D

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments OMG! WHY do almonds have so many calories???!

I brought a cup of them for a snack and found out that 1 cup is damn near 1000 calories!!!!!

WTF, man. With dinner I'm over my calories by 96. And that's with cutting the almonds to 1/2 cup.

No more almond snacks for me. They may be healthy but damn!

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I told J almonds were a good snack when he first started dating, so he would eat them throughout the day. He started gaining weight so I asked him how many almonds he was eating.. A lot. He was so mad at me, lol.

But just because something is healthy doesn't mean it's calorie free! And they are surprisingly filling. Not quantity wise, but they take away my hunger for sure. I just don't get that stomach full feeling, which I need to start being ok with. When your stomach feels full you are actually past the point how much you need to eat already.

message 162: by Felina (new)

Felina Last summer I was doing really good with my exercising and eating and I lost 30 pounds. Then I met Gary and just stopped trying. It's a little bit of him taking up some of the time that I used to exercise with and a little bit of finally finding someone who loves me regardless of my weight. It has taken me a bit to remember that I do want to lose weight for myself. Luckily, I've only managed to gain back 5 of those pounds during the holidays.

So I'm really needing to jump back into it. I want to do the Zombie 5K in October which means I need to start training now since I am quite a bit overweight and pushing it to quickly could net me an injury.

I don't have a lot of money so eating healthy will be difficult since a box of mac & cheese is $.98 and an apple is $1.50. That mac & cheese can go for two or three meals and that apple won't satiate anything for longer than an hour. I wish eating healthy in America wasn't so hard.

But accountabily is key to any weight loss plan so I'm going to use you guys for that.

30 pounds is great! I understand about the stopping thing, though. My friend calls it "relationship weight," lol.

What I've been trying to do a lot of is buying in bulk and then making stuff from scratch instead of buying pre-made. Like taco seasoning and most tomato sauces. But you're sooo right. Eating healthy is freaking expensive! I feel bad sometimes because I don't buy organic for the most part. But when two whole chickens is $7 at BJ's and the organic version of those same two chickens is $14...well, I get the non-organic chicken!

message 165: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I HATE the scale :( :( :(

I should NOT have gotten on it today. Seriously... Somehow, from yesterday, I gained 2 lbs. And from the beginning of the week? 4 total. What the heck? I at 1390 calories. I burned 580 in my work out. I was meticulous. I didn't eat after 7pm. I felt like it was a perfect day. And somehow... +2 lbs.

Can this really be the working out? My clothes fit the same as when I started, but I've gained (I'm I'm going based on today's weight) 7 lbs???? That can't be all muscle.

My first wedding dress fitting is a week from tomorrow. I was 122 lbs when I bought the dress, now the scale says 129. I'm so worried it won't fit. UGH!

Granted.. I'm supposed to start my period soon. But really. Really? 2 lbs gain in a perfect day of eating and exercise?

It hurts. I just want to see results. I'm working so hard, working out every single day even when I really really REALLY don't want to. I go home, get ready, and I work my ass off hating every minute of it. And what do I get for my hard work? Weight gain and more worry.

I'm not giving up.. But I'm damn frustrated. Just needed to vent...

*hug*

I know the feeling. :-(

Some of it has to be muscle. You work out too much for that not to happen. So let's take that as a given.

I just looked it up: Average Natural WOMAN: between 0.12 – 0.25 pounds of muscle per week (or about 0.5-1 pound of muscle gained per month).

But you could also be retaining water or something. I get super bloated near my period.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if salt intake has something to do with it. Since I'm counting calories in MFP I'm starting to see that I'm always waaaaaay over my sodium intake. Doesn't too much salt encourage water weight gain? How much sodium are you getting a day?

message 167: by Felina (new)

Felina Dawn, what is your height? At 129 you may be at your bodies natural healthy weight and now you're just working on leaning out. If you are at your healthy weight then it would make sense that a high intensity weight based exercise program would be bulking you with muscle at this point and not working towards lowering your weight. And if you are working your muscles your body could be holding onto fat stores to feed the new muscle growth.

message 168: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments It could be sodium. You might be surprised by how much sodium is in almost everything we eat. Especially if you're eating a lot of pre packaged stuff.

Do you weigh and measure everything you eat including home made meals? It's surprising how small most servings actually are. Basically, most servings will fit in the palm of your hand.

Are you drinking enough water? Water is very important. Especially when working out as hard as you are doing.

It could also be that you're not eating enough. I know it sounds weird. But when you're burning calories you really do need that extra energy to burn off. And you need to replace the energy that you lose in a work out. Let's say you're eating 1,500 calories and burning 500 in a work out. Yes, you're eating enough for a day but after you've exercised that leaves you with only 1,000 calories. That's not enough.

It might also be carbs. Either too much or not enough.

These are just generic thoughts. But the first thing I would do is, take a look at you're eating and check if there's an imbalance somewhere - either too much or not enough of something.

Though, it probably is just your period. I now I gain when it's my time. Wait to weigh yourself again when it's completely over.

I really doubt it's either you're not working out enough (because you are) or that you need to eat less.

message 169: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments MrsJ - I know some of it is muscle. I can feel the difference, especially in my thighs. My main issue is that I feel like I should be burning some fat at least, and losing weight. Or even inches. But I feel like I have as much fat as ever, especially in my stomach area. And it looks worse, because now I have muscle underneath pushing the fat out.. I swear I'm actually starting to look pregnant :P

I watch my sodium intake.. I think I'm pretty good with that.

Felina - I'm 5'5". I've always been steady at 122 lbs, now I'm steady at 127. 129 today, boo. My clothes still fit the same so I wouldn't be bothered by it if it weren't for the upcoming wedding.. I know know. I just wish I had some indication that it was working. My inches stay the same because I'm small normally, and I still feel just as squishy as I did before. But I'm working harder than I've ever worked in my life, and I just want to know it's working. See some number go down or up... But nope. Weight goes up, inches and body fat stay the same.. I just want something positive, you know? Ugh.

I did measure myself but this is the first time I've done that in months and months. So that will be for next time.

I did some research and found out that my heart medication does cause some weight gain - slowly over time. :( It also makes it super hard to lose weight so I don't know what to do. :(I feel like I'm working really hard just to stay afloat.

I can't believe the price to eat unhealthy and healthy in the states. I'm from New Zealand although it's still cheaper to eat unhealthy it's not such a price difference between the two. $1.50 for an apple is crazy!

I've managed to lose a kilo this week (about a pound) but it's more from stress and forgetting to eat which isn't ideal, my mum had knee surgery and she was high risk because if her weight, her weight being why her knees were destroyed. Found out my sister in laws cancer has come back and it's spread around her body and in all her lymph nodes, she's 37 with 5 kids. Jackie (thenightowl) I decided to go with the Fitbit One after reading some reviews. Looks like the wristbands tend to overestimate steps bc it measures wrist movement rather than actual movement. Plus, I couldn't stand the idea of having the band constantly on my wrist. My skin tends to be sensitive. I don't even wear a watch and bracelets tend to be of the bangle variety because I breakout sometimes. Anyway, I've very excited!!! Can't wait till it arrives. :)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Bonding for sure. THat's one reason I like it - it's something we can do together, and it's certainly more fun than walking the treadmill or elliptical.

Luckily we're keeping it light, as I am capable of getting hyper competitive - but since we're not keeping points or anything, it's just fun.

I do joke that the biggest workout we're getting from it is to our abs... from all the laughing.

I don't recommend being hit with the ball at speed, though. It smarts. ;)

***

And, yes, no longer dying in Zumba. I still get out of breath*, and my calves still burn during certain songs... but I don't come home and sleep for 4 hours afterwards anymore. ;)

* I'm beginning to wonder if I have developed mild asthma or something. My allergies have gotten worse as I've gotten older, so I wouldn't be surprised if other stuff starts going wonky, too.

Conversly, I probably just breathe wrong. I have to make a concerted effort to remember to breathe deeply, and I think I just forget and only catch myself when I'm out of breath.

Good luck, MRsJ.

Jackie (thenightowl) Colleen, I swear by raw honey. I used to get pretty severe allergies from March - June. Everything from watery eyes to asthma, which would eventually lead to bronchitis or a severe sinus infection from all the allergy meds I was taking. I started taking it a few years ago and since then all the that stopped. I still get allergies (mostly sneezing and itchy, watery eyes- sounds like I have a mild cold), but nothing as extreme as before. And my allergies start later in the season. I'm good for flower allergies, but the tree pollen still triggers them.

Jackie (thenightowl) Yeah, I'm Puerto Rican...I can't talk without using my hands. LOL! I read a review comparing the Fitbit One to the Flex and the lady said the Flex added 30 additional steps while she was talking to her friend, while the One didn't budge. That's really what convinced me. Also, another review I read said that the Flex had lost some features, like the ability to count stairs which the One does. I do take the stairs a lot so I definitely want those counted. Both Fitbits have positives and negatives though and it's good they're both the same price so you can choose which is best for you.

Colleen, it depends on what type of honey. Processed honey (the one in liquid form) does not work. You need all the pollen and good stuff because it's like equal to getting an allergy shot. This is what I mean: http://www.reallyrawhoney.com/product... It's solid like this:
.
It's usually light in color and less sweet than processed honey. You want one that is as close to your location as possible bc that means the bees are pollinating flowers that are common to your area. I take mine in tea, but you can just eat a spoonful out of the jar or mix it with warm water. For additional health benefits add some lemon to the water. I swear any time I feel a cold or sore throat coming on warm water, honey and lemon works miracles. It anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and boosts your immune system and detoxes.

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I have the Fitbit One, I find it to be very accurate. I heard the wrist band one sometimes would count steps if you are driving on a bumpy road.. With my Fitbit One, it never has done that. And I love that I can wear it without even feeling it. I just attach it to the middle front of my bra and it nestles in nice and snug... That's probably weird.

@MrsJ - I'm right there with you. I weighed myself last week after what I thought was a Perfect week. I gained again. I don't get it. But I went and tried on my dress Saturday, and it fit. But I still don't like the way it looks. My biggest problem right now seems to be that I'm gaining muscle but not losing fat. So my stomach sticks out like I'm pregnant. Doesn't help that I've had a kid... I just want some of that belly fat to burn off so I don't look like I have a beer belly. My dress is tight there, and I want to not have to suck it in all night.

I'm still doing Insanity, so I don't get it. I burn 500 - 600 calories a night. I use their formula for how many calories I should eat, and I stick to it pretty well. 1500 calories a day.. And before anyone asks, yes this is enough. I don't think I need to increase it more. But I'm still not losing weight. I'm getting stronger, sure. But honestly.. That's great long term. Right now? Less than 2 months until my wedding and honeymoon? I just want to burn belly and ass fat.

I'm weighing myself Saturday morning. I'm hoping to see something lower than 129. If it's moved into the 130's... I don't know what I'll do. Cry, lol. I started this journey at 122 and I wish I never had sometimes. I like getting healthier.. But how stupid was I to do this before my wedding? 7 lbs! I should have just ate less, screw working out. I thought doing Insanity, working as hard as a I am working, I would be around 125 max right now. But nope... OH well. We'll see tomorrow. This week is week six of the program, and it's the first week of the super high intensity stuff, and most people say they started seeing results now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. I need to see something soon.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Damn Dawn. I feel like you're in my head this morning!

I weighted and measured myself today. Sadly, I gained about 2 pounds instead of losing 2lbs. :-(

I did lose about 2% bodyfat: from 28% to 26% and about an inch off of my waist.

But damn it! I want to lose some weight, not gain!

I'm driving myself just a little batty. I weightlift 3 days a week and I do cardio 2 days a week. I really focus in on my lower body cause that's where I carry most of my weight. So I do squats and deadlifts like they are going out of style. Hip thrusts, too.

For cardio I was doing the elliptical but decided to push it up a notch and started doing "Tight Buns and Killer Legs" by The Firm. OMG. That DVD beats me up. First time I did it I was sore and I've been working out regularly for months!
