J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Thanks Anji and everyone here in GR for the most excellent Birthday!! Even my 90 year-old father called to wish me happy birthday. Now...that is old. He is on vacation in the Smokey Mountains.

Dung | 31 comments Happy Birthday J. W., hope you have a wonderful time celebrating & finding more favorites in your reading!

message 1456: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Dung, I depend on y'all to steer me in the right direction. I've added half a dozen books just in the last few days to my TBR pile. Plus, I've caught a few on sale or free. So, I've had a very productive birthday. Thanks.

message 1457: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments OH, you have to share when you find bargains...please.

message 1458: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Four Days In April...Maria Grace is free.
Sarah Johnson has several books at 99 cents. You've mentioned those. Plus her other books are $2.99. I try to look at the discussion groups Promotion for bargains.

message 1459: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I did pick up Sarah Johnson's in January when they were also on sale - been reading them and posting reviews. I think I read 4 days in April but will check - thanks.Four Days in April

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I did pick up those and/or read them, thanks.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments This week I have been reading very short stories or novellas due to my busy schedule. Last night I read all of Amy's/Alex9903's short stories/playground pieces (all P&P variations: some modern). I am not going to try to review them. Amy has a short sentence or two at the beginning setting the stage. They are from about 4 pages to 20 pages long and I am just posting this note to bring them to your attention. I enjoyed them and they will make for good waiting in the dr.'s office, etc. reads. They are:
A Shower In April
All the Perverseness of Mischance
Always the Best Treatment
Dawson's Creek
Mr. Darcy Proves His Point
Of a Sunday Evening, with Nothing to Do
Running on Empty
The Girl in the Seahawks Shirt
The Wishing Ornament
Violently in Love

They are posted on AHA and if you message me directly I can give you the link.

message 1462: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments I think I've probably read all of these Sheila, but since I haven't reviewed an unpublished one so far I can't be sure. I definitely read the Wishing Ornament one though, I remember that one really well, lovely story :)

Barb (barblibrarian1) J. W. wrote: "Perhaps... you may have to celebrate with a select few to start with. Thanks for the birthday wish."
I have friends who are husband and wife with the same birthday. So, they also celebrate their "half birthday" so they get to have two celebrations per year. You could do that! My birthday is 9/11, so it is not quite as cheery as Christmas! lol

message 1464: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Ouch, that hurts. Maybe you, too, can choose a half birthday. But whatever you do - each person deserves recognition.

message 1465: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Think I threw the cat among the pigeons here guys. I'm not too worried about the birthday really. After 53 years I've gotten quite used to it. I'm just kicking myself now cos if I had arrived a few days earlier I'd have had the same birthday as 'our Jane'!!!

message 1466: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments But just think - you were born under the same stars/zodiac sign so you must have many traits in common...how delightful.

message 1467: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments If only I had gotten the trait of writing from her. Wouldn't that have been wonderful!! Always wanted to be a writer but it just didn't happen.

message 1468: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Teresa, happy birthday anyway. You get to say you and Jane Austen share a birth month. Only those who love JA will know what you are talking about.

Who knows about writing...you may come into your own yet. It is never too late to try something different...or when the kids are older.

message 1469: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 277 comments Ha ha J W!! My youngest is 26. Still have two at home. Don't think hubby and I will ever have time to ourselves. Looked after them too well and now they're too comfortable.

message 1470: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Bless your heart. Make them uncomfortable...you deserve time with your husband. Haha! Pretty soon you will turn around and you will be looking at your 50th anniversary wondering where the heck did the time go.

Sheila, I really enjoy Amy's stories. She writes very fun stuff. Sounds like a very worthy week of reading!

message 1472: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Yes, I find her stories an excellent balance of adventure and angst and romance.

message 1473: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) I am falling so far behind on my list of books. Since retiring, I am finding myself so busy, I am actually reading less! I think it has something to do with the fact that reading was part of my profession as a librarian, and maybe still feels a little like work, despite my passion for it. I am looking over what I have read for this group and see myself reading more new stuff and less of the pile on my TBR list. I think I need to tackle more of those. That might spark me to get more accomplished! So, given that, I am going to go to the August you pick for me posting and list out a few I have had on my kindle for quite a while. That should get me going!

message 1474: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I am in a similar situation in that I have not only many unread novels on my kindle but also a host of paperbacks which I read before my retirement and before I began posting reviews. I keep chiding my self that I should not buy or borrow another new one before going back and rereading the ones I have not reviewed so as to have them fresh in my mind when I write my review. But darn - so many great new ones and so little time. I can't keep up and I defy anyone to attempt to in JAFF.

Ok, Barb. I'll help you out here. We're past the deadline for You Pick It For Me August, but I just breezed through a few pages on your TBR shelves (wow! You must have a really, really sturdy bookcase to hold all those books!) and decided to assign you one. I'm picking Longbourn's Songbird.

I am going to go for that one, as well as hope someone will pull one from the list I put in the August pick for me list. Do you see any of those I should try?

message 1478: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I looked at your list but saw other friends have already jumped in with their suggestions- looks like you'll be picking your own from several options, so I don't know that your list there got whittled down much!

message 1479: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 224 comments Just go with the first one Barb, you have about five suggestions to choose from, doesn't help you much!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Thanks Sheila, I went back and added the stars...I forgot to add them. I appreciate the encouragement from this discussion group. You guys rock.

message 1499: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Debbie, I doubt I will ever be in the league with you or Sheila. You guys are in a level of your own. In fact I am surprised there isn't additional levels to shoot for. After Bennet...where to next?

message 1500: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I do so like it when stars are added although I try to read reviews before I purchase a book, the stars give me a reliable start in my decision.
