I have pronounced it like Hades since I was five years old. That's 7 years before the book came out. It's how everyone pronounces it, you should just go down the street and ask everyone how you pronounce h-a-d-e-s and that would prove it to him. It's been pronounced like that ever since the British translated Greek myths into English and messed up the pronunciation.
Personally though, I would just drop it. Let him say it like "Hayds" and he'll go through life and realize how wrong he is. It's not that important :P

There's this one parasite that attaches to a fish's tongue, and then angler fish (I think that's what they're called) attach themselves to each other, so I guess that means they're a parasite...?
