I've found a lot of mistakes in American reprints. Hrun being a barbarian could have a *grasp* of several languages or Terry said, "Screw it. Let's move this story along."In one of the books he mentions people surling on the ocean. Someone wrote in the margin, "Misspelling: Should be surfers." I wrote underneath it, "How do you know? It's a fantasy novel."
Elentarri wrote: "Kevin wrote: "Doesn't Terry Pratchett have Alzheimer's. "Yes he does."
This is a sad truth, but unlikely to explain errors in a book he wrote in the early eighties.
I think the real question here is does it matter? It's not a translation of religious text. It's Fantasy/Comedy!

Steven's right - the Barbarian roam so they would have a pretty good grasp of a fair few languages so basic communication wouldn't be much of a task.
I read The Hogfather first (after seeing it on tv) then went and read the books of 'Death'. A few yrs later in 2014 decided to go back and read them all from the first book published - but couldn't get into Amazing Maurice or Raising Steam.
Babafaba(Hypnos)((Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore))(((Scuttle)))((((Scar)))) wrote: "So, I was reading this book and I saw that Twoflower was talking to Hrun without Rincewind's translation. Is it a major mistake or is Hrun able to speak Trob and I missed it? Please, help me."I wondered about this as well! I think it's likely Hrun speaks his language, though it didn't state that.

So yes, maybe you spotted a mistake, but to call it "major" you should ask yourself: does the comedy works anyway? if the answer is yes, there is no mistake ^_-
