It's agony, waiting for "The Doors of Stone." Along with all the other excitement and revelations to come, I'm convinced that Denna is the younger Lackless daughter and look forward to having that confirmed as Rothfuss winds up this engrossing tale.

I doubt it. I would like to know more about her origin story. I do believe she's simply a girl who lost her family/ran away and had to learn to take care of herself.
She's fairly practical. If she came from money, she wouldn't be letting some guy beat her for his patronage. She'd take the other option.

Denna is coming, if not from money, from tradition. You do not find flair and style in a brothel. So similarly to Kvothe who is well-bred and very gentlemanlike, with a Lakless mother and a father whose name is not unfamiliar to Master Loren for example, and who is a Ruh nonetheless, Denna seems an equally fine lady. Her practicality is nothing more than ability to survive without too many compromises, which to me is another argument in favour of her not beeing a simple girl at all.
