T.A. Sorsby (ta_sorsby) | 80 comments Good afternoon all,
The second book of my undead apocalypse series came out yesterday. The first was praised for it's relentless pace, sense of humour and originality. Left Behind will actually be coming onto a free promotion tomorrow if anyone's interested. But I'm mainly here to mention this one;

Emergency: The Suburban Dead
The eagerly anticipated sequel. Set from the perspective of Nurse Katy Cox, working at one of the ground-zero hospitals, the story centres on the fall of County General and the struggles of those who survive it. Expect action, suspense, and an awkward relationship between Katy and her ex-girlfriend.

I'm super keen on getting honest reviews, so if anyone's interested in a free eBook, just PM me your email address!

Henry (henrytaba12) | 17 comments Hi guys! How was your day? I hope you have a great day. My first novel The Death Messenger is here. I’ve been dreaming of doing this for some time now.

Here's the review from JessReviews:
"...The storyline was well thought out and I liked the idea of the death messenger and the demon..."

The Death Messenger by Henry Taba

The synopsis:
Every whisper, end in a death. It does not happen to everyone, except Westcliffe Petal. He ignored the first death message that whispered to him, but the fear quickly clung to his heart when the death of his friend confirmed every single word of the message. And when his girlfriend is the next victim, this only exaggerates his troubling mind and the pressure when he doesn't have any lead in his investigation. How Westcliffe prevent the whisper becoming a reality when he has never met the whisperer—the demon?

Bernie Morris (berniem) | 141 comments Zorro's Last Stand by Mark Shearman by Mark Shearman is now available in paperback. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zorros-Last-... https://www.amazon.com/Zorros-Last-St...
Zorro’s Last Stand follows the story of a man who chases his past to a drowsy Spanish fishing village. His search for the truth ends in a raucous gun battle between thirty ships, while the majority of the pueblo remains positioned on the beach, defending an ancient tradition. In the fray, a bunch of dysfunctional expats fight to keep their dreams of living in the sun alive. This enigmatic novel oozes glimpses of no-bull-truth, revealing the naked underbelly of being an expat living on the Costa Blanca. This raw novel stirs up a paella of murderous gangsters, eccentric Indian bar owners, a sociopathic hotel owner and a quirky xenophobic cop. The brutal murder of a young English woman - turned prostitute, forbidden love, a donkey named Pedro, and out of work sixty-something-gossipmongers ensconced in the local bar - paint a colourful, ragtag, group of characters. If you're not cringing, you're laughing and wondering, what the hell next? When I moved to Spain twelve years ago, I imagined the expats would be affluent go-getters searching for something new and strange. I pictured intellectuals working on books about their exotic travels and painting watercolour scenes of beach barbeques, backlit by the blue Mediterranean. All while discussing this evening’s meeting at the amateur dramatic society over chilled sangria and various tapas.Instead I was faced with desperate people chasing after the same crumbs, associating with English people they would normally avoid back in the UK. I never thought I would meet Romanian gangsters, British smugglers, property scammers, drug dealers, slave traded prostitutes and murderers. However, they all sat in my local bar wearing cheap flip flops and sawn off clothes. All of them blended in with the latest holiday makers. But this isn’t my story; this is Danny's.I first saw Danny running through the car park of our neighbourhood adjacent to the beach. He was flamboyantly dressed as El Zorro and chasing a breast-heavy woman in her fab-fifties as she desperately clutched a freshly baked baguette and skilfully jogged in her fluffy flip flops.

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments My first book of 2019 ended up being technically my final book of 2018, as Amazon processed it far quicker than I expected (90 minutes! A record?)

Laguna Mutata! by Andrew Lawston

Laguna Mutata! A standalone fantasy short story (12,000 words) with jokes. In which a warrior and a wizard, both of whom are more than they seem, embark on a quest to recover some stolen cattle, which is more than it seems, from the shores of a lake, which is more than it seems.

So that's clear, right?

His instincts say flee.

What he discovers lands him at the heart of a century-old battle against an evil he knows he cannot defeat. Peter (pdinuk) | 29 comments Divided by History Roots of Sudanese Conflict by Peter Dixon ]
The tragic turmoil in Khartoum at the moment is particularly poignant for me as my short book on history and Sudanese conflict launches on 13th June. I recall often walking the streets of Khartoum in better times without ever feeling in danger.
In ‘Divided by History’, I look at the ways in which outsiders in Sudanese history have shaped the disunity we see today. As a non-historian writing for non-historians, I examine how far into the distant past the origins of the multiple complex conflicts of today's Sudan and South Sudan stretch.
Divided by History is a short book in which I take the reader back to ancient Egypt, the Ottoman Empire and British rule of Sudan to investigate the role of outsiders in Sudan's past and their impact on the present.
To give the book a following wind, I would love to get as many honest reviews as possible at Amazon. The book is now available, so reviews can already be posted, and the Kindle edition will be discounted to 99p/99c until 20th June.

Jim | 21809 comments Tallis Steelyard. A guide for writers, and other stories.
We continue to explore the wit, wisdom and jumbled musings of Tallis Steelyard. In this invaluable publication Tallis Steelyard discusses the ways in which a writer can bring their work to the attention of the masses and more importantly, sell the book to them. As well as this, we have the importance of getting home under your own steam, music and decorum, brass knuckles for a lady, and of course, a few simple spices.
Surely this is the one essential book that every aspiring novelist should both purchase and study.

Tallis Steelyard. Gentlemen behaving badly, and other stories.

More of the wit, wisdom and jumbled musings of Tallis Steelyard. Not only have we got Gentlemen behaving badly, we see Port Naain by starlight and meet ladies of wit and discernment. There are Philosophical societies, amateur dramatics, the modern woman, revenge, and the advantages of a good education. All human life is here, or at least such of it as Tallis will admit to.

P.J. Anderson | 1 comments The Three Signs of the Serpent

Reaching number 20 in Amazon UK’s 100 best sellers list of Horror e-book launch ‘freebies’ in late July, ‘The Three Signs of the Serpent’ (Nine Lives Editions UK), is now available as both a paperback and a reasonably priced e-book (free on Kindle Unlimited).

Pre-release review and short synopsis:

“Well, what can I say – what a creation. … Despite the several very scary episodes, some quite grisly too … I think the most frightening elements are something else. One is the ordinariness of it all. There you are, for example, sitting in an ordinary coffee shop, with ordinary coffee shop noises around you from machines and customers drinking an ordinary cup of coffee, and the devil walks in. Or a man who thinks he’s the devil. Or even a crossover, a man-devil. But you don’t realise it’s the devil or whoever/whatever because he/it is in the form of a man … And you’re not necessarily safe in what you suppose is the ultimate sanctuary: a church or its equivalent, because evil, the darkness … can get in anywhere, even in your head, even in the heads of the supposedly incorruptible. That’s the second most frightening element. It’s like walking across Morecambe Bay without a guide: put a foot wrong and you don’t know what you’ll step into. Evil is to the side, at the front, behind, below, above… I do not remember breathing as I read the final chapter. …

What a complex interweaving of themes and sub-themes there is, with repeating threads which emerge and then move into the background, to create a complete pattern by the end of the book – good and evil, of course, but also, for example, the supernatural and the mind; the love of money being the root of all evil… the eighteenth century; Christine calling on her stories, and dreams, as weapons and as means of escape… ” A.B., a former book editor and previously of the Financial Times.

This is a unique and genuinely chilling book, a web of traditional ghost stories woven within a Faustian tale of evil at its most calculating and ambiguous. The horror is both psychological and physical, active and reflective. The plot is a puzzle in which the lead character, Christine O’Donnell, is a teller of ghostly tales who doesn’t really believe in ghosts. She is continually trying to wrestle with the nature of evil and the possibility of it having a genuinely supernatural dimension. Simultaneously, she finds herself being gradually ensnared by a diabolical master storyteller until, figuratively speaking, she is swallowed whole. She then engages in a desperate struggle to free herself from forces that systematically try to undermine her sanity and terrify her into becoming their servant. Her own fictional stories are frightening in themselves, but the real-life tale in which she finds herself cast in the lead role is more sinister and disturbing than anything she could have imagined.

The e-book is now available for $2.91 USD/£2.39, while the paperback is $8.71/£6.99, subject to currency exchange rate fluctuations.
