April Challenge
Introduction:
April is the fourth month of the year. The month where spring is definitely raring to go. Some of us might still have chilly weather, but the earth starts thawing and the trees bud with new life. Showers may come, but soon flowers will follow.
Rules:
1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge. You can sign up at any time after the thread opens until the end of the month (11:59 am) April 30th) and post initial and final stats when you are done.
2. All books must be read between April 1st and April 30th.
3. Books of any genre can count for the challenge, but can only be used once in the entire challenge.
4. The challenge books can overlap with any other group challenge during the month of April.
Levels:
1. Spring Fever Reader: Read 10-12 books
2. Green Thumb Reader: Read 5-9 books
3. Rainy Day Reader: Read 4 or more books
1. April Fool's Day: In honor of April 1st, read a book with a lead or major character who likes to 'act the fool', is a constant jokester, takes nothing seriously, or is considered the life of the party.
2. Going Green: Everything starts to bloom and the green leaves sprout in the trees that were formerly bare. Read a book that reminds you of the rebirth and newness of spring. Alternatively, read a book with any green on the cover or a "springy" cover.
3. Tax Day: In the US, we have to survive the hassle of meeting our tax deadline. Read a book where a main character makes it through and survives a major ordeal, because you can sympathize with them.
4. Let's Make Up!: Reconciliation Day is celebrated on April 2nd. Read a book where the character(s) reconcile(s) with a loved one.
5. No Housework Day, So Read!: On April 7th, you have an excuse not to do any housework. Use that time to read a book for the challenge. Any book you read this month can count towards this part of the challenge.
6. Sorry Charlie!: April 7th is the day to reflect on a past rejection or breakup. A book where the character was dumped or broken up with (or even divorced), or even rejected in a non-romantic way, will count towards this challenge. Alternatively, a book with a good groveling scene can be used. Let us know which one you choose in parentheses.
7. National Sibling Day: April 10th is the day to celebrate siblings. Read a book where a character interacts with one or more siblings in a significant way in the book.
8. Reach as High as You Can!: April 14th is for us to expand our horizons. Read a book you wouldn't normally read this month for this part of the challenge.
9. Let's Be Honest!: In honor of April 30th, read a book with a title that is brutally honest, in some way. For Example, you might choose a book called The Ugly Duckling.
10. Kiss Your Mate Day!: You have to read a book that has a couple kissing on the cover to count for this part of the challenge.
11. Choose One!: You can either read a book for Lookalike Day (main character looks like a celebrity or famous person, even just to you by their description); Kindergarten Day (children's book (Age 13 and under), Executive Admin's Day (character falls in love with their boss), National Eraser Day (main character is a writer of some kind), or Go For Broke Day (read a book that is 450 or more pages in length).
12. Name Yourself Day: For this challenge point, the main character has a very unusual first, middle or last name to celebrate the holiday on April 9th.
