You had finished Week 52! You finally finished to read this book and it's the end of the challenge if you're reading in order!

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Which book did you read?

Do you think it deserved this second chance?

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place?

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way?

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Which book did you read? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Do you think it deserved this second chance? Eh. I'm glad I read it, but it was just ok.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? It didn't really grab me the first time, and to be honest it didn't grab me the second time either. I do want to see the movie though.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? Hahahahahahahaha ... yes, most of them. :)

Which book did you read? Old Man's War

Do you think it deserved this second chance? I would have been totally fine if I never finished it.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? The subject (army, war) is a good summary of things I'm not interested in reading about. I bought it because of the author (and a sale) without really looking what the story was about.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? I finished all my books this year, but I authorized myself to skip a lot, otherwise it would have been horrible. I switched some but before starting to read them.

Michelle (mich2689) | 122 comments Which book did you read? 1Q84

Do you think it deserved this second chance? I feel accomplished that I finished it, but I wouldn't have missed out if I didn't.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? Too long-winded. Lots of repetitive descriptions. The overall plot was good. The book was just much longer than it needed to be.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? Nope. I started the challenge late so a lot of the books I read were not planned.

Sophie (sawphie) Which book did you read? A Crown of Swords by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time #9

Do you think it deserved this second chance? No, definitely not. I stopped reading this series years ago, and it was a very good decision. If it wasn't for the unfinished book week, I wouldn't have finished it ;)

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? Too long, not interesting enough, other books to read (at least it's what I remember, it was around 8 years ago).

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? I definitely put off 1984 a lot of times this year, but I didn't abandon any book (I'm almost unable to do that). Last year I abandoned Crime and Punishment, though and I'm not sure I'm going to pick it again.

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments So far it seems we all made the right decision abandoning them in the first place. :)

Luisa (deborahluisa) Which book did you read? City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Do you think it deserved this second chance? Well, it did. It was enjoyable in the end. Not really a great book, but i had fun.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? My expectations wetre high and it begins so slow and boring, like there's nothing new in this book, nothing i haven't read before and for that i quitted a few times.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? I don't really give up on books. When it gets bad or boring, i put it down and try again another time until i get it.

The Cosmic Landscape: String Theory and the Illusion of Intelligent Design

Do you think it deserved this second chance?
Absolutely.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place?
I first started reading it last year and just wasn't in the mood I guess. It's about String Theory and Quantum Mechanics, and although it's written in an accessible way, it's definitely the kind of book I need to be in the mood for. I started it again this year and abandoned it again when my kindle broke. I ended up reading it on the kindle app on my phone, which was annoying because I find endnotes difficult to click on on that app and there were lots!

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? Nope, just this one.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments Which book did you read?
Distant Waves by Suzanne Weyn

Do you think it deserved this second chance?
Meh, I rated it 3 stars (or 2.75) so I'm kind of neutral about it.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place?
The writing wasn't that compelling, and the cover said "A Titanic Story" but it didn't get to the Titanic for a long while and it kind of frustrated me.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way?
Yes! Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. I'm sad that I found that it sucked because the cover and first chapter were so promising. That's for the memoir week, and I switched it to You're Never Weird on the Internet by Felicia Day. I was happy with the switch.

Krysta (booksaremyfavthing) | 115 comments Which book did you read? The Job

Do you think it deserved this second chance? Yes.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? I lost it from the library before I finished it.

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? No.

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments Which book did you read?
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Do you think it deserved this second chance? Yes, it was Ok at the end. Not great, just Ok.

Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place? I thougt it was boring...

Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? Unfortunately, yes. I gave up with IT because it was too long, but I am planning to read it the next year. I also gave up with Pride and Prejudice, I need to get that book translated to my mother tongue. It was a little difficult to read :(

Those Girls by Chevy Stevens
Do you think it deserved this second chance?
yes
Why did you abandoned it in the 1st place?
I had a hard time getting into it and started reading something else and my library loan ended.
Are there books from your plan you abandoned and switched along the way? Yep, there were a few that I just had a hard time getting into.
