Liz (liz_the_librarian) Tomorrow brings a new month and a new mini-challenge. Stay tuned for a post detailing that challenge.

I'm down to the last couple of chapters in The Amber Spyglass. I cannot get over the fact I never experienced this story before! I'm sad to be so close to the end, but, at the same time, I can't wait to see how everything concludes.

I read the second book from The Paladin Prophecy series, Alliance. It was a quick, fast-paced read, but nothing really stood out to me. It's very well-written for a YA fantasy/scifi novel, so it gets points for that.

I just started Roomies, which is a light read so far. Every time I go on a YA binge, I end up wondering what I'm doing. Even though they are quick and easy to get through, they don't leave me with much to think on afterwards.

What is everyone else reading?
The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3) by Philip Pullman Alliance (The Paladin Prophecy, #2) by Mark Frost Roomies by Sara Zarr

Kyra Hay | 41 comments I never got around to reading The Amber Spyglass. Let me know if it is worth it; I read the first two earlier this year! I am excited to know what April's reading challenge will be.

It's very good. It's definitely an adult book disguised as children's literature, which is why I think I like it so much. It has the whimsy and fantasy that children love but the themes are much more meaningful to an adult reader. I'd say the His Dark Materials trilogy are some of the best books I've read this year.

April's challenge will be A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Read a Graphic Novel. I will try to get a recommendation post up soon.

message 4: by Jodie (new)

Jodie Reha I have read 6 books so far. I thought I would have read more by now, so I am definitely going to start listening to books on CD in the car more often. I must confess that I really wasn't keeping up with the challenges but am excited about April; a good excuse to read The Walking Dead graphic novel series!!!

message 5: by Traci (new)

Traci (tardis1974) Yay for April's Challenge! I'm waiting on hold for the third Game of Thrones graphic novel. The first two were exceptional, so I've been really excited about this one. I think I'm next in line, so hopefully it'll get to me in time.

Katie Walton (libraryladykatie) | 16 comments I'm reading Amity by Micol Ostow. It is pretty creepy, but I'm not sure it will take the "scariest book ever" mantle.

I'm pretty excited about April though. Maybe I need a graphic novel!
The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1
Sandman has been on my to read list forever!
Maybe I'll re-read A Contract With God and Other Tenement Stories.
or
Level Up
I'm kind of hoping Level Up will be a graphic novel version of Ready Player One but I haven't read it yet.

So many choices!! What's everyone else reading?

message 7: by Donna (new)

Donna (donnajdoak) | 27 comments I'm reading Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald last week and have started on Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore. Hoping to get through that one quickly and pick up The Returned.

message 8: by Aerial (new)

Aerial Lejong (alejong) | 4 comments I'm currently reading The Knife of Never Letting Go and really struggling. It sounded so good, so someone please tell me to stick it out! The plot seems interesting enough, but the way it jumps from topic to topic only giving you bits of information makes it hard to get through.

I've never read a graphic novel, so I'm really looking forward to it!

I have to add books on CD also so I can keep up with the challenge. I'm glad they count,

I didn't know Game of Thrones came in a graphic novel! Awesome!

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments This week I started Zoo by James Patterson. A couple of quick reads help me keep up with the challenge.

Yep, and they are fabulous. Definitely not kid friendly (big surprise, I know), but the artwork is fantastic. I think Chesapeake library only has book one, but VA Beach has all three that are out if you have a card there. The only thing about them that I didn't love is that there's a terribly long wait between books (GoT is set up for four books, so it'll take forever to catch up with all the other books in the series), but I'm used to waiting for Martin, so...

Thanks for the info!

I saw a great April Fool's joke where someone created a fake George R.R. Martin blog and claimed The Winds of Winter was complete and to expect a publishing date of Dec. 2014. If only there was a shred of truth to that joke...

message 15: by Kyra (new)

Kyra Hay | 41 comments I'll probably try to read the walking dead graphic comic books! About how long are they? I just finished reading Auschwitz: A Doctor's eyewitness account about a Jewish doctor that worked under the direction of Dr. Mengele and then wrote a book about it. It was pretty horrific but a good read if you're interested in the holocaust.

I cannot recommend The Knife of Never Letting Go. I didn't finish! If you get through it maybe I'll go re-read it. I could recommend at least a dozen post apocalyptic YA books that ARE worth the time to read!

You might try Y: The Last Man, Vol. 1: Unmanned for your graphic novel pick.

message 17: by Julie (last edited Apr 02, 2014 04:53PM) (new)

Julie | 130 comments I finished Trap Door and Just My Type this past week.

I also started the audiobook of Ready Player One, and I completely understand why everyone has recommended it! It's a glorious walk down 80's nostalgia lane and I am loving it!

I'm also still working on A Dance With Dragons, and Sacred Marriage.

I'm kind of excited about April's challenge too although I'm not sure what I'll choose!

message 18: by Phyllis (new)

Phyllis Johnson | 2 comments Right now I'm reading High School High by Shannon Freeman. Yesterday I read Roses Red as Blood by Schraff. Both are quick reads and great for the teen who likes drama. I posted Roses Red as Blood comments yesterday.

message 19: by Ann (new)

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I'm still working my way through Team of Rivals, but I've just finished reading the books based on the TV Show Castle (Heat Wave, Heat Rises, Frozen Heat). I'm now reading Dark Lover by J.R. Ward, and just checked out the new one The King. I'm also thinking of checking out the Game of Thrones graphic novel and reading that for this month's mini challenge.

message 20: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) I finished all the books I started the week out with. I'm taking a train (for the first time ever!) this weekend so I was trying to pick something I could take with me. I really wanted to start S. by Doug Dorst and J.J. Abrams but since there are so many pieces involved with the book, I decided to go with Good Omens a book I've been meaning to read for awhile. So far, it's quirky and enjoyable.
S. by J.J. Abrams Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett

Kyra,
I read Auschwitz and several other books over the years about ww2 & camps. They leave me with as many questions as answers. Lots of other titles on my shelves, btw.
