Yes, absolutely epic, isn't it?! A must-read, don't you reckon ;)

Yes it was! Really a must read.

Since I am behind on Cat's Eye for my Black Beauty roll, Lusie will be reading The Fault in Our Stars in the next week to take my Don Quixote property from me.

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments if i fell of the monopoly wagon (I realized for my last 2 rolls...the ones i mentioned above) that I never actually picked books to read...haha!

should i just pick 2 books and read or what?

message 207: by Bea (last edited May 27, 2016 03:41PM) (new)

Bea | 5296 comments Mod
Yes, Dee, since your last two rolls were Genres, pick your books and start your count for reading them.

message 208: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I think the game is very addictive. I really like that the game or another player chooses the books for you and that you have a limited influence on which book you have to read next. I now see books coming by I forgot where on my tbr!

message 209: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
I'm glad you're enjoying the challenge, Lusie! I do like the randomness (dice rolling) but also, the certainty that you'll be reading OFF your tbr instead of searching out of it... for a change ;)

message 210: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments That also Tien. I have only books on my bookopoly shelf that I know are easy to get, so you don't have to hunt down the books.

I know it's only June... but as always, we are in gear for the future :D

We are thinking of continuing or rather doing another version of bookopoly in 2017. The plan is not to make any addition to the rules (difficult enough as it is!) but to have a twist to it. Hint: the top 3 readers (number of books) by end of November will be involved in this

However, we are looking for some feedback from everyone. Is there any particular changes to make the challenge more smoothly? more fun? more interactive?

message 212: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Tien, it is so great you plan the future activities in the group so early. Sounds very well organised! Having the game next year with a twist does sound very good.

I haven't played bookopoly that long, but I really enjoy it. When someone needs to choose books for you I think people are really fast. So it does run smoothly. I like how other players choose books for you from a list (bookopoly shelf).

Something that might be fun for next year could be by basing some of the task challenge on the "chance" and "community chest" cards (found here). Not all are usuable,, but some are. This would involve going back places on the board, or going to the next property. Though that might confuses things.

message 213: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Thanks, Lusie... I'll take that 'going backwards/forward' on board ;)

message 214: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments I'm so glad you're thinking of a 2017 version! I'm enjoying this game immensely :-) I don't think I'll take part in as many challenges next year, since it's a bit overwhelming and makes me feel anxious after a time, but I will certainly keep playing Bookopoly! This is probably my favorite book-related game :-)

I can't think of any possible changes at the moment, to me it seems perfect as it is, but I'll come back to you mods in case I think of something.

Thanks so much!

message 216: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments my only maybe recommendation - i love the genre squares...maybe do similar to the trivial pursuit where different subgenres

so romance
1 - paranormal
2 - contemporary etc

So to include subgenres on the 'Genre' squares?
I like it! Shall I be mean and make you roll for it ;p

Thanks for the input, Dee :D

message 218: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments yeah

so roll the 2 for the normal roll and then 1 die for the sub-genres (or you would do 1,2 = paranormal; 3,4 - contemp or something like thaT)

message 219: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod

hahaha, I think we are currently on a very comfortable run with Bookopoly so it's good to have something which may/mayn't stretch us a little bit :)

Cool idea, Dee. It would make it a bit more challenging for sure, but certainly fits in with our theme of basing things on shelves.

message 224: by Lisette (last edited Jun 11, 2016 03:13PM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I like your suggestion Dee! It would help me to read more out of my comfort zone.

Or we could use one with genres and one with shelfs. Maybe you could even change the listed shelfs/genres 2-4 times a year.

message 225: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2241 comments I like the idea of having others pick books for me, but some people spend more time online than others and can pick in a more timely manner. How about setting up pairs of people so everyone has a backup. That minimizes the pressure of the ticking clock and having to pester people when they don't see your post.

message 226: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Thanks, Amy, we'll see what we can do :)

message 227: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i dunno, i think most people have picked in a timely manner, especially once the 2 day time limit was put in...there have only been a couple of times where the moderators have had to bug people...and remember that your pick reading doesn't start until you actually get a book

Dee has a point, Amy. The clock doesn't start until someone picks for you, not when you land on the square, so hopefully that will help a bit. Do you still see a problem?

message 230: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2241 comments I wasn't thinking in terms of the clock for the reader, but for the picker. They have 2 days to pick or they risk losing their property. People with full-time jobs and small children may not be online as often to catch the post within the 2 days. Those of us who aren't in that boat will find it much easier.

Maybe I just don't want to be the mean property thief :-)

AHH, I totally misunderstood what you were asking, lol. I see, you are thinking of help for those who own properties and don't want to lose them. That is a whole different kettle of fish....

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I think I'm going to be late with reading one of my books, Fear the Worst. I have to finish it tomorrow, but I don't think I can make that. If I don't finish in time, where should I post that?

message 234: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5296 comments Mod
Lusie, you would post it here. Let us know when you anticipate finishing the book when you post.

If someone lands on one of your squares before you finish the book, they have the right to try to take it from you. Otherwise...read as planned.

message 235: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Thanks Bea. I think I should be able to finish it before july 21

message 236: by Charity (new)

Charity | 577 comments In line with the current discussion. I am hopelessly late with East of Eden (DUE 7/6/2016). I'm working on it, but while I'm enjoying it, it's painfully long. I will let anyone know who lands on my space that they can take it from me. I will try to remember to post here when I finish it. I'm crazy busy the next two weeks too...so who knows!

Dee, you have skated past that threat as Tien owns two properties and is, therefore, not allowed to pick up another.

Sooo, I've been pretty good with sticking up to my due dates (even if it's reading up to the last second or after lol) but... I've had to drop the book due tomorrow but a library book due on Thurs which I'm not going to finish if I don't do this. Coralie has just landed on The Grapes of Wrath & I've told her she's welcome to claim it if she finished before me :)

Anyone else due for a move? Animal Farm is another one of my property... ;p

message 250: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments lolz! just remember, Coralie has priority to take a square from me first and i'm further behind on one of my books ;)
