Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Hey! I'm new to Dragons & Jetpacks. I live in the Seattle area and was wondering if there were any fellow members nearby who would be interested in meeting up in person to discuss the books. Let me know!

Sadly not sure we have any Seattle members. I know a few met up at Bristolcon this year and I hope to get to the UK for something similar next year

Yea I've given up all hope to find a fellow Winnipeg resident here. I think Hybrid would classify as the closest by living in a slightly northern state.

Yep, although our Bristolcon meetup was more to do with already knowing each other before the group :P We're just too international! ;)

I'd like to think that's a good think. If I ever had the chance to travel to Merry old England or close to where you guys/gals live I would love to go for a bite to eat or glass of beer and get to meet you all.

I'll buy you a whiskey if you ever get to Ireland

I think you guys just do alcohol better there as a whole :)

It can be a tad crazy . I currently have four work parties on the next four weeks, all alcohol infused madness . Nights out in Dublin around Christmas and Patricks day can be pretty mental. I don't drink too often and know my limit when I do thankfully ( which is always fun being the one with their head screwed on while the bosses are hammered drunk)

I might be in the UK next year, anyone near the naval base over there?

Lancer, I think you're the closest to me as well. I've only been to Canada once and it was Niagra Falls lol.

I've never been to Niagara Falls, went to Toronto once to watch a baseball game but that's about as far East as I've been. Other than a few other trips here and there I've been condemned to the Land of Ice and Snow.

I have seen some very nice pictures that my coworkers have taken while there.

It's a small country come on up!! (spoken like a true American :) )

Haha! I'm aware this distance is nothing for many Americans but... it is for us Brits! ;)

Although if you think we're a small country, try the Netherlands!

Can't really read the numbers on the pic, but if total travel time is under 12 hours, that's nothing to us Americans, lol!

message 22: by Rick (new)

Rick 400 miles? I drove 250 for a meeting today. sheesh...

message 23: by Roger, Knight Radiant (new)

Roger | 2032 comments Mod
:)

I wouldn't drive that unless I really had too, though it is a 180 mile trip to go see my parents and I do that like 10 times a year.

Uh the picture is weird, if you open in a new tab you can view full size - no idea why it doesn't work if you just left click it :/

Aaaaand now I'm on my desktop rather than my laptop where I took the screenshot, that doesn't work... bah! It's 7-8 hours or so by car, 11 hours by train although that could be to do with the time I searched for it - normally it would be less than the car time :P

I live about an hour from Faslane actually, about 45 miles. I've been up near the base, it's a nice bit of the country. When is it you'll be over Roger?

message 26: by Roger, Knight Radiant (new)

Roger | 2032 comments Mod
I'm not 100% sure, i don't think it will be until next fall

Bekka | 32 comments Genesee wrote: "Hey! I'm new to Dragons & Jetpacks. I live in the Seattle area and was wondering if there were any fellow members nearby who would be interested in meeting up in person to discuss the books. Let me..."

I'm in Renton (a Seattle suburb). I'm up to meeting for coffee.

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
I might be heading to Bristol and London in the next two months or so, closer to the time and when I know the details I might look at seeing whos up for a meet up in either

message 30: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Hopefully Genesee sees your mesage Bekka. Always nice to see members meet up.

message 31: by Bekka (new)

Bekka | 32 comments Goodreads has an auto-notify function for posts. If Genesee left the auto-notify function on for this thread, she'll hopefully see it. Thanks.

message 32: by 4T2 (new)

4T2 Hi Genesse, I live near Vancouver - but I get down to Bellingham or Seattle once or twice / month - maybe next time we could meet up! Or let me know if you head up north any time soon :)

Genesse,
You're in Blaine? Let me know when you'll be down next & we can get together.

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Bekka wrote: "4T2 wrote: "Hi Genesse, I live near Vancouver - but I get down to Bellingham or Seattle once or twice / month - maybe next time we could meet up! Or let me know if you head up north any time soon :..."

Hey Bekka and 4T2,

I'm in Edmonds, not Blaine. Sorry I didn't see your messages sooner! I stopped following the thread when it seemed like there were no other members near me. We should definitely try and hook up for coffee!

4T2 - when next will you be in the Seattle area?

message 35: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Excellent! Sounds like there are a few of us scattered along the PNW coast! Might be easiest to find a time to get together that already coincides with 4T2 visiting Seatte/Bellingham. Thoughts?

message 36: by Bekka (new)

Bekka | 32 comments So, we're all more or less in the Greater Seattle area.

I'm in Renton (South Seattle). I can come into Seattle with a few days' notice.

Can everyone do next Saturday? That would be January 9. Say, meet at the main branch of the Seattle library at 11:30?

I'm even willing to bring freebie DVDs with my most recent fantasy short story to hand out. :)

I'm open to other times too.

message 37: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Unfortunately I work every Saturday. Sundays and Wednesdays are my days off and they tend to book up fast. I'm free on Sunday, January 17th. Would that work?

message 38: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) I remember being pregnant, it can be tough! Would it be easier for you if we met up closer to your end of town? Also, would totally understand a last minute cancellation from you based on how you would be feeing the day of.

message 39: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Super easy for me to get to the East side since I'm in Edmonds.

message 40: by 4T2 (new)

4T2 I was actually thinking if heading down around the 17th so that would totally work for me :) and since I'm coming from Vancouver the part of town really doesn't effect me at all

message 41: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) First meet up can be an intro and we can discuss the books to whatever extent we feel like it. How does that sound? Maybe when we are all together we can talk about a bit more of a "schedule" and figure out what works for us.

message 42: by 4T2 (new)

4T2 sounds like a plan to me :)

message 43: by Bekka (new)

Bekka | 32 comments So, does this mean:

1) We've moved it to the 17th?

2) Where, exactly? SPL or eastside? Eastside is a big place - several municipalities. An address would be helpful.

message 44: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) I don't know the east side well enough to recommend a location. Typically I recommend the Lake Forest Park Third Place Books as it is between Seattle and the east side. If we did a library would we be able to talk much?

message 45: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) And yes, we've moved it to the 17th. Still have yet to select a specific time.

message 46: by Bekka (new)

Bekka | 32 comments I'll be coming on transit.
I'd like to suggest meeting at the Bellevue library as the Bellevue Library is just a block or so from Bellevue Transit Center. That would mean me only having to take one bus from Renton. Their address is 1111 110th Ave NE.
Yes, they should have meeting space where we could talk. If not, we could walk to the Starbucks a block away at the Bellevue Transit Center.
The Bellevue Library is open on Sunday, 12 - 8 pm. I am open to time suggestions. I'll toss out 12:00 for starters.

message 47: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) Bellevue library also works for me and 12:00 sounds good

message 48: by 4T2 (new)

4T2 works for me

Once you finalise the details, I could actually add this as a group event and message it to all members - so anyone in the area who hasn't noticed this thread will also be notified? :)

message 50: by Genesee (new)

Genesee Rickel (geneseerickel) That would be great, thank you!
