Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi took the orders of four more tables before going into the kitchen to get the food. She leaned against a wall, waiting for a moment as the plates were prepared. It was rather warm back here, and she was itching to get back out into the diner, but she didn't mind the break. She sighed, thinking about Eli. He seemed nice enough, but sort of troubled as well. She was worried about him...

message 102: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "What the hell is this?" Eli asked, laughter in his voice.

Lucie glowered. "You got a problem? So I write. What's it to you." She reached out and flipped her stack of papers over, but not before Eli's laughing tone changed to something forbidding. He had seen what was on the front of that page, and it talked of hell. And what put him off his game the most, was that it was accurate.

message 103: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi brought the plates out again, setting them down at their appropriate tables. She looked over at Eli's table and spotted Lucie. Lucie the snooty. Oh boy, here we go. Lexi walked past the table with a pointed glare at Lucie before heading back to the kitchens to pick up more plates.

message 104: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lucie let out a short bark of laughter, watching Lexi retreat. "I don't really get why she doesn't like me."

Eli looked up sharply, something in Lucie's tone making him look her over once again. "You know her?"

"You could say."

message 105: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi heard Lucie's laughter all the way from the kitchens and she started to boil. That girl was such a thieving, slutty, back stabbing-

"Lexi!" The cook shouted. "That plate is getting cold! Hurry it up!"

Lexi jerked back into reality and hurried out with the plates, ducking her head a little in embarrassment.

message 106: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Do tell," Eli said, leaning forward and putting his forearms on the table. Lucie leaned forward as well. "Met her when she moved here about half a year ago or so. Not much else to tell."

"Really. From that glare, I'd say there was more."

Lucie laughed again. "Why don't you ask her? Isn't that your job?"

Eli shot her a unfathomable look. Lucie simply leaned back in her chair again, a slight smile on her lips.

message 107: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments ((oooooh, now I want to find out who this Lucie character really is XD))

Lexi kept glancing over at the two in the booth. Eli seemed to be loosening up at least, and that was saying something. But Lucie... Lexi clenched her fist and bit her lip in anger to try and keep control over herself. One of these days she was going to pop that women's head right off.

message 108: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) ((>:) I have a plan; do you want me to tell you?))

"Tell me, Lucie, what's she like. Lexi."

Lucie looked at him incredulously. "You can't be serious."

Eli shrugged. Whatever worked. Whatever would get Lucie to spill. But there was something off about her, something... familiar.

message 109: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments ((Lol sure, if you want to :D Or you could just leave me in suspense... XP))

Lexi wasn't trying to listen, but when she had moved to one of the nearer tables, she had distinctly heard her name. Lexi had to bite down on her tongue, hard, to keep from saying something nasty at Lucie. What was that little witch telling Eli about her?

message 110: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) ((...I think I'll just let you suffer XD Jk, I'm thinking she was sent to make sure Eli did his job, because before he's always done in less than a day. Always. So she possessed Lucie to blend in.))

"She's quiet, maybe too much so, she doesn't drink or smoke, I don't think she ever dates."

Eli didn't deign Lucie with a response, one corner of his mouth quirking up in a confident half smile. That told him a little, but not much.

message 111: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments ((oooh. Intense. Oh gosh. I am seriously scared for Lexi right now XP Two trained, emotionless killers who want her dead? How on earth is she going to survive? Lol))

Lexi was straining her ears to try and listen in, but there was no way that she could hear any more without being too obvious. So she sighed and left the table she had been lingering at, continuing with her work. She would just ask Eli later and hope that he told her.

message 112: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) ((Eli doesn't know it yet, but he won't kill her... dun dun dun))

"Alright," Lucie said, shrugging. "But you know where to find me from six to ten after the sun's gone down." She smiled suggestively.

Eli's face didn't change at all.

message 113: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments ((ooooh, this just got serious. Well now. I'd like to see what changes his mind. XD))

Lexi sighed, her shift finally over. She wiped her hands on a rag and walked through the kitchen and out the back door into the alley behind. She was alone, and it gave her time to cool her anger towards Lucie. She sighed, leaning back against the bricks. Life could be so complicated, and hard... She bit her lip as tears stung at her eyes. She had to hold it together in front of everyone else, act like it was ok. Smile for their sakes. But when she was alone, she didn't have to hide how broken she was. A tear slid down her cheek and splashed on her collar bone.

message 114: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) ((I'd like to too.... :3))

Lucie pushed off from the table, grabbing her papers. "It's been delightful seeing you again. See you 'round, sugar." With that, Lucie left, leaving behind a lingering scent of roses and sulfur.

Eli pushed away from the table suddenly, coffee long forgotten, as something clicked and he realized just what was off about Lucie. But by then she was gone. He pushed through the crowd, ignoring the muttered hey's and watch it's. Once out of the front door, he scanned the street. No sign of Lucie. Glancing to his left, he saw the curled ends of brown hair and ran after. He rounded the corner to come face to face with Lexi, Lucie nowhere in sight.

"Dammit," he exclaimed, grabbing hold of Lexi's shoulders to keep her from falling while examining the area surrounding them for any sign of Lucie. Finally returning his attention to Lexi, he peered closer. "Are you ok?" Eli asked, the worry in his voice unchecked. When he realized his hands were still on her shoulders, he quickly dropped them to his sides.

message 115: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi looked up at him, somewhat stunned. She hastily tried to hide the evidence that she had been crying. She nodded slowly. "Yeah, I'm fine." She lied. She looked up at him and noticed that he looked worried. Really worried. Why would he be worried? "Is everything all right?" She asked hesitantly, growing worried herself.

message 116: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Smoothing his face back into his emotionless mask, Eli replied, "Everything's fine, I was just looking for someone." Where the hell had Lucie gone? He was pretty sure, 80% sure he knew who- what she was.

He glanced back to Lexi, realizing that she was not, in fact, fine. "Right."

message 117: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi watched his face carefully. He sure was good at hiding his emotions. The way he said 'right' made him sound like he was saying 'liar'. She frowned slightly, wondering if he had guessed that she was not ok. "Oh?" She asked, tipping her head slightly.

message 118: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Eli reached up a hand and wiped her cheek with his thumb, erasing the line one of her tears had left. "Oh," he repeated, face expressionless. What was he doing.

message 119: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi looked up at him in surprise when he touched her face. Then heat rose into her cheeks. He knew she had been crying. She looked down. "I-I'm fine. Really. I-I should probably..." She was going to say 'go back inside' but she didn't need to do that, her shift was over. So she held her tongue. "I'm fine." she said again softly, her voice catching a little. Oh how far away from the truth were those words.

message 120: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "You're not," Eli said softly with a complete certainty. He didn't know why he was doing this, why he was even bothering to talk to her. He dropped his hand away from her face, taking in her blush with a keen eye.

message 121: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi looked down at the asphalt, shaking her head slowly, and then nodding. She opened her mouth to say something, and then just shook her head again. "Yeah. You're right." She said, her voice as soft as a whisper. She bit her lip hard to keep back the tears.

message 122: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "It's ok. You can tell me anything." Eli gave reason to these unreasonable words by telling himself that it was so he could find out everything he could about Lexi. No other reason. That was it. He had a job to do, and he would do it.

message 123: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi bit her lip and nodded. "Well, you already heard my life story back in the park when we were talking. But I just feel so broken... and empty. My family was broken, my mother was broken, my bones were broken. My life was literally falling apart." She sighed. "I moved here to change that. And so far, I havent seen any hope for a happy ending." She sighed. "With my luck, ill probably die young and end up in hell." She said sadly to herself.

message 124: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "Don't say that," Eli said, more vehemently than he had meant to. Softening his tone slightly, but retaining the sureness, he continued, "Don't talk of hell like that. If you knew what hell really was, you wouldn't sling yourself into it so readily." He didn't stop to think that he was giving away too much to the attentive; he only said what came to his mind first.

message 125: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi looked up at him, a little bit interested. He talked of hell as if he knew what it was like. He must have had a rough life too if he thinks he lived through hell. She thought to herself and her expression softened. "Yeah. I guess you're right. But right now, hell doesn't sound so bad compared to my life." She said softly, her eyes starting to water up again.

message 126: by corina (last edited Apr 07, 2014 06:35PM) (new)

corina (molteneyes) His jaw tightened, a muscle twitching, but Eli willed himself to keep his mouth shut. She obviously thought that his life had been worse than hers and that he thought his life was hell. It was the other way around.

His death had been hell.

Literally.

For a millennia.

"You're doing better now, right?" And why was he saying that? He was about to send her straight to hell, and if she wanted it so badly, then it would be a relief to her, right?

message 127: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded slowly. "A little." She shifted, scuffing her toe against the concrete. "I guess I came here because I wanted to start again. Forget my past." she sighed. "But I can't shake it. Its in my memories, and my dreams, and it haunts me when I'm alone at home." She shook her head. "I can't seem to patch myself up and move on. There isn't anything that takes my mind off of the past I guess." She said, shrugging a little. She was a little surprised in herself, for confiding her deepest feelings to Eli, but it felt good to verbalize them.

message 128: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "I wish I could do something to help, but these are your demons. You have to fight them yourself. You have to learn to put them behind you." Before it's too late. Eli left the unsaid words hanging in the air. He knew what too late meant, and it was not a good thing.

message 129: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi nodded. "I know. I just have to find the courage to do that I guess." she sighed. "You did do something to help." She smiled up at him. "You were willing to listen to me."

message 130: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Eli blinked, unsure of how to respond. Honestly, he didn't see that as helping much, but it was true that he hadn't spent very much time actually talking to humans these past few decades. Mostly he just... killed them. He had forgotten how utterly... human... they were.

message 131: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi smiled softly and blushed. "Well..." she gestured back towards the diner, fiddling with her hands a bit. "I better go back in....I guess..." she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and turned slowly. She smiled, giving him a small wave before walking towards the diner door.

message 132: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Eli said nothing, only watched her walk back into the diner with his hands in his pockets. As soon as she had disappeared around the corner, he turned on his heel and strode away, no destination in mind. Fucking idiotic. What the hell are you doing, Eli?Just do the job and get out. Don't stop to chat.

message 133: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi burst into the diner door, slipping her apron on again. She was nervous and excited for some reason, and she had no idea what it was. Strange... Grabbing menus, she decided to start her shift early and help out a little. She needed something to take her mind off everything.

message 134: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Eli slowed to turn into a side alley, some sense beyond humanity telling him there was someone around the corner. Sure enough, Lucie was leaning casually against the brick wall, a cigarette held loosely between two fingers. With a snarl, Eli pushed her against the wall, pinning her shoulders to the bricks. "Who are you," he asked, voice deadly.

"Honey, I thought you'd have caught on sooner. It was rather disappointing," Lucie drawled, smirking. She blinked, and when she opened her eyes again, the honey brown of her irises was gone. Instead, her entire eye, the brown, the black, and the white, was all black.

message 135: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi walked out into the diner again and started to take orders. Her face did not hold its usual cheery smile. She was worried, and her mind was on other things. For one, she couldn't stop thinking about what Eli had said concerning her demons. She wanted to fight them... but how? And then there was Eli himself. He seemed so sad, and alone, and yet, whenever she was around him, she ended up spilling secrets she would never tell anyone.

message 136: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) His mouth set in a grim line, Eli let go of Lucie, stepping back slightly. "Who are you," he repeated, an edge to his voice. He knew, from experience of being on the receiving end, that there was no point in pulling a knife or even a gun on her, however tempted he was to do so.

Taking a drag of noxious fumes, Lucie took her time in replying. "Sugar, you really think I'd tell you that easy."

"I'd think you were lying if you told me right off. In any case, as long as you get the hell out of here and out of business, I won't bother finding out. You're not so important."

Lucie tried a fake pout, but the smirk on her face made it hard. "You wound me. Besides, you don't look as though you're doing your 'business.'"

message 137: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments "Are you ok honey?" Marcie, an older woman who worked in the kitchens asked Lexi hesitantly.

Lexi nodded, then shook her head, then sighed. "I don't know."

"What is it? If you don't mind me asking..."

Lexi shook her head and smiled weakly. "I'm just trying to fight some demons." She said simply.

Marcie nodded. "Ah. I see. I can't help you much there, besides for saying that no road is flat. Just like there are always going to be downhill moments, there are always going to be uphill ones as well.

Lexi nodded and managed a smiled. "Thank you."

message 138: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) "It'd help if you stopped prying."

"Don't you see? You're slower than I give you credit for. That's my job. Prying."

Of course. He had never taken more than a few hours, a day on the job, and here he was on day two. Of course Lucifer had sent someone. "Alright, Lucie." Eli spit the name out, knowing it wasn't her true name. True names were powerful. "Get the hell out of my way."

message 139: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Marcie smiled sympathetically at her before returning to work.

Lexi looked down slowly and sighed. She wanted to fight her demons, but how? Every time she tried, they came back to haunt her. She pinched the bridge of her nose. "How am I ever going to get through this?"

message 140: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Lucie blinked again, and her completely black eyes were gone. She looked normal again, as though she were just another person with no knowledge that there was more than just earth. She didn't deign him with a response, instead giving Eli a small wave and sauntering off.

Eli made no move to follow, but turned around and started walking.

message 141: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi realized that she was not getting anything done like this. She briefly explained to her boss, and he nodded in understanding. Lexi was a hard worker, so he wasn't too mad.
Pulling her jacket around herself, Lexi ditched the apron and walked outside. Stuffing her hands in her pockets, she walked slowly towards the park.

message 142: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) As he walked to god knows where, Eli fingered the knife in his pocket. It was a promise and a warning, and Lucie? She was even more of a warning. He knew that if he didn't kill Lexi, he'd be back in the pit in no time, and Eli had absolutely no desire, none at all, to relive the nightmare of a millennia in Hell. He was not ready to go back, and he doubted there was anyone who would willing choose to.

message 143: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi walked slowly into the park, looking around at the scenery. The trees and the grasses were so peaceful. Unlike her mixed up, messed up life. She walked over to a park bench and sat down slowly, staring off into space, her mind wandering. Eli said she wouldn't like hell. But what did he know about it?

message 144: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Knowing Lexi wouldn't be getting off work too soon, Eli headed back to the park from last night.

message 145: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Sighing heavily, Lexi pinching her forehead and frowned, trying to fight the headache that was coming on. She leaned back in the bench and draped one arm over the back. She felt like she was frozen in time. Unable to leave the past behind, and unable to start out on her future.

message 146: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) There was no way- Could his luck get any worse. Eli sighed and walked towards where Lexi was draped across a bench, looking exhausted.

message 147: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi didn't hear Eli approaching, and he eyes were unfocused, so she didn't see him either. She had zoned out, staring at a tree, her mind wandering.

message 148: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Eli stopped in front of the bench, trying to figure out exactly why the hell he had stopped to chat or whatever. "What did your mother do." The half question popped out, without Eli thinking it through completely, as it was likely Lexi didn't even know. But he wanted to know. What was it exactly that Lexi was getting the punishment for.

What had her mother done that deserved Lucifer's wrath?

message 149: by Lara (new)

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 8327 comments Lexi's head snapped upright and she looked at him in surprise. Noticing that it was just Eli, she calmed down. It took her a minute to process his question, but when she did, she frowned in confusion. "I-I dont know what you mean..." she said, her voice soft.

message 150: by corina (new)

corina (molteneyes) Pressing his lips together in a flat line, Eli studied her. He doubted she knew what a deal with the devil meant or even that true demons existed, let alone the specifications of her mother's deal with Lucifer. "What does she do for a living?" Eli rephrased the question, hopefully also making him look a little more sane.
