I believe the book starts out with a boy getting ready for an early morning fishing trip with his father. It is misty. There might have been a cat? I think he disappears while in the mist on the fishing boat. He is in a hospital/building? Sleeping children? I think there is a girl, and I think they speak telepathically. I think the cat reappears there as well. It might be a parallel world? The book might also be part of a trilogy as I know not all questions where answered. From the 70's or 80's, it was well worn when I read it in 1989. I have been going crazy trying to remember and have looked this up every which way I possibly can with so very little remembered information. Please help!
