Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 11 comments Hi,

My latest release, "Degu's Day Out" needs the url for the page of my website it will be listed on added to it, but since I'm not a librarian, I can't add it myself. So, can someone do it for me, please?

The official url I want added is http://www.zigler.co.uk/otherbooks.htm and the book I want it added to can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Thanks in advance,
Victoria Zigler

lethe | 16364 comments We only add URLs to specific books, and only if they add info that is not found on GR, so I don't think this URL qualifies.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 11 comments Ummm... OK. Well, that's weird, because I've always been allowed to have the urls to my website pages for the books added to my books here on Goodreads. I used to get in touch with Goodreads through the "contact us" form to have them do it, and they never had an issue with putting it up. They just asked me if I'd consider joining this group to ask a librarian in future, instead of messaging them to do it. Every single one of my other books have my website pages as their official urls.

But, hey, it's up to you, I guess. *shrugs* Thanks anyway.

lethe | 16364 comments I'm quoting from the Librarian Manual:

This field is for entering a URL officially associated with that book, such as a page on an author's site for the book. It may also be an author or publisher's website for the book, if it contains additional information or resources not on Goodreads.

Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 11 comments I don't know. Like I said, I just know they were fine with it on my other books. But, like I also said, it's up to you... You're the librarian.

lethe | 16364 comments Maybe a (super)librarian will want to weigh in?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I would agree, it is not a page specific to a book and it does not have any more info than the GR page

lethe | 16364 comments Thanks, Paula.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 11 comments OK, fair enough.

If that's the case, should the urls be removed from my other books then? They link to similar pages.

message 10: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16364 comments Thanks. I removed the generic URLs (other books and poetry books), but left the ones linking to series pages.

I only see one case where a staff member added a URL, and that was to a series page, which does have more info. So not really the same case.

That's strange, because I have been in touch with them for other books as well. But it doesn't matter. You guys say only the series ones count, and I'm happy to accept that.

If your books each had their own page, with something additional (an excerpt, character descriptions, etc.) those could be linked too. It's the general "otherbooks" page that is the issue here.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 11 comments I do understand, and I'm fine with that. I know for future reference.

Thanks for making sure it's clear though. :)
