10.9. Catch Up With the SRC
The SRC Bookshelf lists all the books that have been group reads for the SRC. Read a book from that list that you have never read before.

REQUIRED: State in your post that this book is new to you, not a re-read.

If you have read ALL of the books on the SRC bookshelf already, you may use one of the four books that have been involved in tie-breaker votes and not subsequently chosen as a group read:
The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared
City of Bones
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

REQUIRED: If you need to use this variation, please explain in your post that you have read all of the books on the SRC bookshelf already.

Camilla | 501 comments The book that has been shelved on the SRC bookshelf is Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Am I allowed to use the audiobook Good Omens: The BBC Radio 4 dramatisation, although it has been entered in GR as a separate book and not as one edition of the book that is on the GR shelf?

yes. The general rule is that you may use any edition of a book on a list. Please see the General Default Rules in the FAQs.

Catie | 185 comments Although very good (and I recommend everyone listens!), the radio 4 dramatisation of Good Omens is not the whole book - it's a 4 hour radio play. The unabridged audio book is about 10 hours long.

ah, good info Catie. An abridged dramatization is not the same as the full book. A "regular" audiobook would be fine, but this wouldn't be just another edition of the same book that is on the SRC bookshelf.

Camilla | 501 comments Yes, I know it's a different version of the story, not just a different edition. I just figured it might work for this task, that's why I asked. Thanks for clarifying my querstion Catie, I thought I had tried to explain it clearly enough,

I'm sorry - I thought you were just asking about audiobook v. paper book, not reading a different version.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Help! I've already read all the books on this list. Is there an out for people like me?

Have you read all 3 of the books chosen for this time?

I've read two of them: The Professor and the Madman and Christmas Carol. I've tagged The 5th wave for the 20.10 task.
Some of the others I read long enough ago I've almost forgotten them, if that helps.

I've got a lot of those, too!

Let me think about this, and see what I can come up with............

No big rush! I won't be reading until after 12/1. ;)

Sandi Barnes | 549 comments Sandy: Were there group reads when the challenge was started in the group Cynthia debuted it in? If so, maybe you can add those few books as an option as well.

Donna Jo: I don't typically care to do a reread, but if you haven't read 5th wave yet, maybe an option would be to use it here and do a reread of one of the other two for the 20.10 task.

OK, here's what I've come up with. We have had 6 ties for the group read - 2 of the books that did not win the tie have since been chosen as group reads, leaving 4 runners-up. If someone has read all of the books on the SRC bookshelf, they can read one of those 4 books as an alternative:

The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared
City of Bones
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

I hope this will resolve your problem, Donna Jo.

I will amend the task to include this alternative.

YES!! Gives me two to chose from--one of which is on the holds list at the library.
Thank you for giving me a work-around.

Mostly it only proves I don't do anything but read!

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments i was surprised to see how low i've rated the majority of the group reads that i'd done - many of them were 2 star reads...lol

I'm so glad you were willing to make it work for me and anyone else with the same problem.

Allison Ann | 354 comments Can I read The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman for this task even though it is classified as Childrens?

You can if it meets the SRC requirements for childrens books.

Kaity | 358 comments Just wanted to double check :)

Would it be alright to read a book from this current season's group reads? I'm wrapping up A Christmas Carol and planned to use that for 20.10 but I'm also currently reading The 5th Wave and would love to use it for this task (not a re-read).
