Tracy (tracyisreading) Ok so I've heard of this Rory Gilmore challenge before. I have no idea how I ever missed out on this show. I just joined the group and started watching last week. I think all of us can relate to Rory and her books, but what I didn't expect was to love Lorelai so much. I'm a crazy single hot mess mom too, and I drink way too much coffee, so I really relate to her. She makes me laugh. Looking forward to watching, reading and getting to know all of you.

message 152: by Sana (new)

Sana | 3 comments Since last year, when I started watching Gilmore Girls I have been a little bit obsessed with it. One of my favorite parts was the amount of reading Rory does so I'm really happy that this community exists! I am Sana, I am 17 and I currently live in Canada but am originally from India. Books have been an escape for all my life and I can't wait to be well read.

message 153: by Janne (new)

Janne Bjørgan (jbjorgan) Hello! I'm Janne, and I live in the rainy city of Bergen in Norway. Besides taking a master degree in media I spend a huge amount of time indoors (due to the rain) reading and watching tv-shows. Gilmore Girls came into my life when I left my hometown and started at the university - the first time I had to make it on my own! I found a lot of comfort in the series, and have just started watching it again. It's still so good! Reading Rory's list have been on my mind, perhaps with this group I'll be able to start ticking them books of, one at the time ;)

message 154: by Camila (new)

Camila Kneitz | 1 comments Hello! My name is Camila and I'm a law student from Brazil. I love reading, although I can't get enough freetime during the periods. I've discovered the wonders of the Gilmore world as a teenager, but only now, being 19, I had the guts to start the challenge. I'm definetly a team Logan, but I have a thing for Jess (who doesn't, right?). I'm thrilled to begin the journey (:

message 155: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy Long Hello! I'm Dorothy, and I live in a small town outside of Nashville, Tennessee. I only watched a few episodes of Gilmore Girls at my Grandparents' house when I was growing up, but when I was in college, I discovered it on Netflix and was instantly hooked. I also love reading, so this should be a good group for me.

message 156: by Kate (new)

Kate Hi! I'm Kate (16) and I'm from the suburbs of Philadelphia. I started watching Gilmore Girls in September and absolutely love it. Reading is also one of my favorite things to do and my bookshelf is too full- I need to get another!
One of my favorite books of all time is "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Also, I am definitely Team Jess. :)

Janne Fret | 3 comments Hi everyone,

I am Janne, I am from Belgium, I am 23 years old and just started the Gilmore Girls series (about halfway through season 1 now).
I am currently at home with burn-out, so one of my colleagues brought me 'relax' yogi tea, some cookies and recommended the series,
I can say I am totally obsessed with GG and when I typed in Rory Gilmore in Google, up came this reading challenge.
Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, but due to my incredible busy working schedule, reading hasn't been one of my daily activities anymore.
I would love to start reading again and experiencing literature like I used to.
I am so excited about this months' book 'The perks of being a wallflower'. I wanted to read it many times before, but just never got around to it.
I have never seen the movie as well, so I have no clue what to expect.
I am excited and hope that I can continue reading after I go back to work in a few weeks.

Wish me luck!

Cindy Walsh (cindyrunner) | 60 comments Hi,
I am Cindy and I live in Utah, but I claim Seattle as where I am from originally.. I love the Gilmore Girls but as of yet I have not finished all the episodes. I have two seasons left... Can't wait... I found out about Gilmore Girls through Netflix mostly... I never had time to watch it when it first came out... (I have a little more now because I can choose to watch it when I can)... I try to make time to read when I can also because my job takes a lot of my time also. But I am excited to be in this group, so thank you...

lottymp (illyrianink) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Lotty, I'm from Spain and I'm in the 10th grade. I started watching GG last year alongside my mother, it was our kind of mother-daughter bonding time. I fell in love with the relationship between Lorelai and Rory, and specially the relationship between Rory and

Janey-Ann Jooste | 1 comments Hi.! I'm Janey, and I'm from a small town called Postmasburg in South Africa. I have loved books and reading ever since I can remember. I started watching Gilmore Girls this year, and recognized some of my books in Rory's list and thought that I would love to read all of the books she has read. Currently I'm busy with Sybil - and I'm loving it.
I have quite a hectic schedule so I do not have as much time for my books as I used to..but I'm trying to make more of an effort. Life's to short to keep your books on the shelf.

message 161: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Joelle (stephaniejoelle) | 7 comments I'm Stephanie, originally from Columbus, OH but currently residing in San Antonio, TX. I am a graduate student trying to become an English literature professor. I currently teach high school English while taking night classes. I recently came across Gilmore Girls on Netflix about this time last year and instantly fell in love with the show. I see myself in both Rory and Lorelai. I love books, the first snowfall, the changing of the seasons, hot chocolate (not a coffee drinker but religiously would sip on my hot cocoa whenever I watched the show). I binge watched the show all the way through the end of A Year In The Life and am eager for more! I have found this reading challenge online but this is the first actual group I found and so happy I did! It is lovely to see so many fellow faithful lovers of the Gilmore Girls. I may be a little late but just in time for the new episodes! Excited to share and witness everyone else's reading experiences! xx

message 162: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 17 comments Hi, I'm Jennie and I live in the UK. When the revival was released on Netflix it looked so good that I watched Gilmore Girls religiously until I got to the revival. I can't believe how one show can be so good! I love reading but it will probably take me years to complete this challenge on top of books I'm currently reading/reading soon and because some of the older books just don't interest me as much as other genres at the moment, that's why I think it's important for me to do this challenge, to encourage me to read books I wouldn't normally. I also love Black White Read Books' website and layout of the challenge, it's so much more user friendly and nicer to go on than Buzzfeed! I think there should be a Gilmore Girls book!

message 163: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (astroalexis) | 2 comments My name is Alexis, I'm from Central Illinois, but currently live near Cincinnati, OH. I'm joining this club because I love literature, and have loved Gilmore Girls since I was eleven. I'm currently a software developer, but in college my favorite classes were literature classes and I miss the discussions. Sometimes I think I should have majored in literature or something instead, but I figured maybe joining a book club would satisfy that desire.

message 164: by Julie (new)

Julie Verive (julieverive) My name is Julie, I live in Los Angeles, and I am a huge Gilmore fan. I'm a bookkeeper by day and amateur photographer by-weekend. Someday I look forward to honestly saying "I'm very into P.G. Wodehouse right now."

Cheers everyone!

message 165: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Rasmussen (goodreadscommandy_rasmussen) | 7 comments Hi, I'm Mandy and I live in Southern California. My oldest daughter and I watched Gilmore Girls the first time it was on. Now we've seen the episodes dozens of times. I love reading and I'm looking forward to doing this reading challenge.
I've been married for 26 years and we have 2 boys and 2 girls. 3 of the kids still live near us but my oldest son married a French girl and they're living in France which means we're traveling to Europe several times a year now. I'm also finishing up my Masters in History.
I'm excited to get to know everyone!!!

message 166: by adarkishrose (last edited May 02, 2017 06:56AM) (new)

adarkishrose (blithereadr) Hi, I'm Susie and I'm a Gilmore Girls addict. I've been obsessed with the tv show since 2003 and have watched each and every episode too many times to count. I've enjoyed, dissected, and, as Lane has said "Parse it for subtext", haha. I have always been curious about the books Rory reads and wondered what that list would look like. Obviously it is a long list but I am definitely up for the challenge! As far as my favorite episode of Gilmore Girls *hyperventilates* I cannot choose as I love all of them...well...I wasn't fond of the beginning of the sixth season when Lorelai and Rory spent time apart. Also, I don't remember Rory getting a lot of reading done in that time *tsk tsk*. I'm glad this challenge exists and I look forward to getting to know all of you! Take care!

message 167: by Dana (new)

Dana Herrmann | 1 comments Hi, I'm Dana. I am from Brisbane, Australia. I started watching Gilmore Girls last year and fell in love with the characters and the plot quickly. I really identify with Rory because I love to read. I am excited to start reading more from Rory's list.

message 168: by jamie! (new)

jamie! (jamie_13) | 4 comments Hi! I'm Jamie! I just started watching Gilmore Girls and have become obsessed! I am currently wearing a Luke's t-shirt, so obviously I love it! I found myself really connecting to Rory and I aspire to be more like her! Can't wait to start reading!

message 169: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Octavia (octaviamarie) | 2 comments hey everyone! I am Meghan, currently in Fort Sill Oklahoma. Lover of all books and GG! Been working on this list for about a year, but was a single mom and student so haven't read much! Now im back with my husband and need more people to connect with. Currently rewatching the series on netflix :) cant pick a fav episode though.

message 170: by Melly (new)

Melly (melbav) | 7 comments Hi everyone, I'm Mel. I live in Victoria, Australia. I spend most of my time chasing a very active toddler around and slaving away at post-graduate study but love to read in any spare time I can find. I first watched Gilmore Girls at 16 and have loved it ever since & rewatched many times! Looking forward to embarking on this reading challenge with you all :)

message 171: by Julie (new)

Julie | 1 comments Hi ! I'm Julie and i'm 36. I live in Montréal, in Canada. My mothertong is french. Reading and looking at series like GG is my way to try to improve english :)
I first started looking at GG last year because I heard it was a nice storie about a single mom and her daughter. I plan myself to be a single mom and those two are so a positive model of a modern family!! I really love them! And the fact that Rory is a strong educated young women fill me up whit hope !
I'm a little scare of the big economics books she reads in the last seasons, but I would love to give a try to the most of the book she reads :)
Can't wait to start whit you ;)
Julie

message 172: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandylivvy4) | 3 comments Hi all

I am Sandy and I have a book problem .. hehe

I have been an avid reader since I can remember maybe 7/8 years old when I could pick my own non school set books .

I love the library and it was my favourite place to go as a kid as a kind of hidden sanctuary away from reality .

I am mum to two - both keen readers / reader to be .

I am in the UK and a proud military Wife and books are my saviour on long lonely deployments .
My favourite books are :

Alice in Wonderland - I collect these too
The runaway- martina cole
The green mile - Stephan King
Wuthering Heights

Authors I love :
Philippa Gregory
Diane Chamberlain
Stephan King
Victoria Hislop
Gregory Maguire

To be honest I like any genre and generally willing to give any book a go !
U favourite reading spot is curled up in bed with a cuppa ! Especially if it's raining out side .

I have only just got into Gilmore girls - I'm binge watching on Netflix .... my favourite episode is when Luke and Lorili get together ..... yes I screamed finally at my to haha . Also I want to hate Kirk but he is so adorably irritating lol .

Well that's me feel free to say hello and friend me xxx

message 173: by Jade SiL (new)

Jade SiL Carstairs (jadesil) Hi, I'm Jade SiL. I'm a 27 year old unemployed translator, so I have plenty of time to read, which is ironic because I'm going through a major reading slump at the moment.
The first time I watched an episode of Gilmore Girls I was thirteen and it blew my mind. At that time I wanted to be like Rory, but now it's Lorelai whom I look up to.
I love classics but I read almost anything, except nonfiction. I've tried several times but it's not for me, apparently.

message 174: by Nelly (new)

Nelly Aghabekyan | 3 comments Hi everyone, I'm Nelly, all the way from Armenia. I'm a freelance web developer and a full-time housewife and mother of one extremely active toddler.

My introduction to the wonderful world of Stars Hollow happened this last fall all thanks to Netflix. The witty and quick dialog and relatable ladies instantly won me over, and my obsession with the show caused a very inconvenient craving for burgers.

I rarely find the time to read anymore, so joining a group is just the thing to motivate me into sticking to a reading schedule. The last book I really really loved and couldn't shake off was Station Eleven by Emily Mandel. Usually, I go for a wide range of genres, classics and sci-fi for the most part, but I try not to limit myself and try out new things even if the description doesn't sound too appealing at first.

message 175: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (miniguinea73) Hi! I'm Colleen and I joined while we were reading Emma. I'm a history professor and in my spare time, I like to read, paint, and garden. I've always loved Gilmore Girls, and I think Rory is my spirit animal. I'm not sure I have a favorite episode, but Lane is my second favorite character (outside of Rory).

I'm a huge reading multi-tasker and usually have a few books going at the same time. I also love listening to books while traveling or grading, and I finally broke down and joined Audible.

I think I'm Team Jess, although I do have a soft spot for Dean.

message 176: by Franziska (new)

Franziska (chaoschild) | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Franziska. I live in Bremen, Germany, work as a PhD candidate in Economics and I have been a Gilmore Girls addict for two years now. :)
I always feel inspired by Rory's sense for good and classic books and that's why I have decided to join the challenge. Actually, I have just started with 1984 by George Orwell.
I think it is really difficult to name a favorite character. Maybe it would be Rory herself or Paris (her mental breakdowns are just epic).
I am looking forward to finally facing the challenge & also to meeting some more Gilmore Girls addicts!

message 177: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 21 comments Hey, I'm Cassandra and I live in Australia 🇦🇺 (about a 2 hour drive south of Sydney). I'm currently studying Nutrition and Dietetics at university, hopefully graduating in November 2018. I love Gilmore Girls and think Rory is really relatable as I was raised by a single mum and always worked hard to get into university (and obviously love reading) and find it refreshing to see a character like Rory on TV and think she is a great role model. I love Rory and Jess together, and also Luke and Lorelai. ❤️

message 178: by Cary (new)

Cary (caryambler) Hello, my name is Cary. I live in Texas and currently work in the medical field. I've been a Gilmore Girls fan since I saw the first episode. I had just started working in a hotel 3 weeks prior to the start of the show and it was a place just like the Independence Inn. It's hard to say which of the characters I identified with more. Glad to finally have a good list of all the books read/mentioned in the series.

message 179: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (goodreadscomlensofbooks) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Michelle. I live on a little homestead in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. I have 3 sons, and the youngest is starting school this year. I'm also going back to school after many years to finish my Senior year in college, majoring in English. I watched Gilmore Girls on Netflix over the course of about 6 months this past winter/spring; got hooked when we were all down with the flu, then I broke my hand & just had to keep watching;-) I loved all the literary references in the show and this challenge is brilliant! Looking forward to good reading & comradery. **Team Jess all the way!!

message 180: by Dora (new)

Dora Hi! My name is Dora. At the moment I'm living in both UK and Turkey and I am studying music, and needless to say I absolutely love reading!

I became hooked on Gilmore Girls very fast and I adored watching Rory's literary journey, along with many many other things. Very excited to be a part of this group and looking forward to the discussions!

message 181: by Jenna (new)

Jenna Elliot (jennaelliot) | 7 comments Hi!
I just found this group tonight, and I had no idea that something like this existed, so I'm stoked to start participating and reading from Rory's list! I had no idea a list of books referenced in Gilmore Girls even existed, but let me tell you, I'm excited about this discovery!

I'm going to start by printing off the big list and seeing which books I already own and/or have already read. :) Have I mentioned I'm excited? :D

Anyway, as for introductions: I'm Jenna. I'm a New Adult author from Florida. I'm not sure what my favorite episode of Gilmore Girls is, but season 2 is probably my favorite season. I love all of the main characters, but also all of the side characters like Kirk. Gilmore Girls give me a safe go-to when I'm not feeling my best, and it's helped me get through some crap. I'm excited to be part of a community that loves Gilmore Girls AND books as much as I do now!

myraway | 0 comments Hi! My name is Myra, I'm 16 and I live in Paris (so my english is not perfect...). I've just discovered goodreads, and I love it. And now, I find a group about my favorite TV show... this is amazing! But I can't say which episode is my favorite because I haven't finished watching GG (I'm currently in the middle of the 4th season). I've always been fascinated by Rory's capacity to read that much classics... and now I can read them too! I'm in!

Caitlin (mamareadsatnaptime) | 9 comments Hi! I'm Caitlin, 29, from Arkansas. I'm a full-time mother of four (6,4,2,and 10 months)! I love to read and I have been reintroduced to GG through Netflix. I can't wait to get into some of the discussions!

सुवर्णा मुंगी | 4 comments Hi, I'm Suvarna from Pune, India. I came across this challenge only a few days ago and was quite fascinated to take up this one. So here I'm. I'm going to start this challenge with Alice in Wonderland. However, I was wondering That are we really going to read Bhagwat Gita too as It's like reading Bible. I saw that we are yet not sure whether we are going to Keep Bible in reading list too. Seek clarification. Thanks.

message 185: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea | 11 comments Hello! I'm Chelsea from Oregon. I've been on GoodReads for a while now but have only recently become more active now that I have more time to catch up on my reading. I've been a Gilmore Girls fan since the show premiered back in 2000. I'm about the same age as Rory so that was fun watching it when I was in high school. I loved revisiting it during its Netflix return and the reboot.

Hard to say what my favorite episode is, but "They Shoot Gilmores Don't They?" is up there. Oh btw, I'm 100% Team Jess :P

Anyway, I'm looking forward to interesting discussions and catching up on a lot of the classics that I never got around to reading over the years!

I have never actually seen the show, but I stumbled upon this book list on Facebook and have read and enjoyed enough of the books to take up the challenge. I am new to this site and would appreciate someone pointing me in the direction of September's books. Thanks.

Hi Calvin, welcome to the book club. We're reading Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar this month. You can find the books we've read/are currently reading on our group bookshelf: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
Have fun! :)

message 190: by Jully (new)

Jully (jullyzhu) | 3 comments Hey yall! My name's Jully and I wasn't actually planning on leaving an introduction today but after looking at the list on the website I decided I had to. If only to comment the fact that Rory seems to reread a lot! I think the only book I've ever gone back to again would be Sylvia Plath'a bell jar. I don't have a particular reason why I don't reread or a reason why I've reread The Bell Jar. Just think it's interesting why she would reread books like Huckleberry or On the Road. Do you think it's true to her character? Continuing on, I'm from Texas and I have a ton of spare time right now so I've been doing a ton of reading. Currently reading anna karenina and I can't believe how much I love it. The length of the book was daunting but the satire is hilarious and witty. I also read some lighter (shorter) pieces when I get tired of Tolstoy'a lengthy descriptions. Anyway. Hi. Bye.

There are a few books on the list that I am sure will be tough to plow through, but I am going to givd it a try. Hopefully, having others to share the experience with will help.
Happy reading!

Taylor (Books&Beanies) (booksnbeanies) Hi, my name is Taylor. I am a two-time cancer survivor. I love to read pretty much anything from biographies to science-fiction. I'm not really picky. I am happy to see that I am not the only one who loves Gilmore Girls. I have probably seen every episode multiple times. When they made Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life I was super excited, literally counting down the days. I watched all four episodes in one sitting and I would honestly do it again. I came across this reading challenge a while back and have just now decided to take it on. I have had a GoodReads account for a while but recently had to recreate it because it was giving me troubles. I never really used my account before now for anything other than keeping track of my books so I'm super excited to join this group and see how it goes!

Sam (Sassyowlreads) (sassyowlreads) Hello! My name is Sam and I am a Financial Analyst at a small-ish company in Columbus, OH and I would like to say it's more interesting than it sounds but that is probably only true to me and my co-workers. I have been watching GG since season 2 came out when I was far too young to really appreciate it. Rory has always been my reading role model!

I also wanted to leave this here:

This year I did the Popsugar challenge, Bookriot Read Harder Challenge, and I set and exceeded my Goodreads book goal. However, these challenges helped to open my eyes in regards to my approach to reading the last 2 or 3 years. I've set Goodreads goals and been pleased when I surpass them every year but my reading goals and challenges have made me lean towards shorter books and shy away from ones longer than 600 or 700 pages. To help with this, I created a new group for people to set up a pages reading goal to potentially be done concurrently with one of the many other reading challenges available.

If you are interested, the link is below! Happy Reading!
