Jordan In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Darry is a foil for Ponyboy. The reason for this is because most of the things they do, and the way they look are different. For example, Darry is streetsmart and Ponyboy is booksmart. The way that this is a foil is because if there wasn't someone to couterbalence Ponyboy, then he would get himself into more trouble then he normally would.

Nikhil Kalathara I agree Jordan, but another reason they both are foils for each other is that when Ponyboy and Darry are put next to each other Darry looks like a body builder, and Ponyboy looks like a scrawny kid. Because they have two opposite body figures they look more like themselves.
