Why Read: This is a Mary Shelley novel dealing with her relationship with her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley. The title comes from a quote about her from her father, William Godwin.

Comments: Well, Mary wasn't almost invincible. I didn't even consider her all that likable. I could see why she was so ambivalent and conflicted, but it didn't make her a strong protagonist. The most sympathetic female character is her mother, Mary Wollestonecraft, who had died. Mary Shelley never knew her. More's the pity. I do admire her novel Frankenstein though. Rating B. 10)Stalking Los Angeles: Finding Courage and Love in the Madnessby Tom Berquist (YA Native American contemporary fiction) Source: Amazon purchase Started: 10/22 Finished: 10/23

Why Read: This book is told from the alternating viewpoints of a Native American teen and a mountain lion. The author is a wildlife advocate.

Comments: I loved the relationship that developed between Reggie,the MC, and Joe Sartor, a wildlife expert. It was a mentor-mentee relationship. The mountain lion is portrayed realistically but sympathetically. The book also deals with PTSD through the portrayal of Reggie's father. I thought this was a wonderful book. Rating A. 11)Isolationby Mary Anna Evans (mystery) 274 pages. Source: Library Started: 10/25 Finished: 10/27

Why Read: This #9 in the Faye Longchamp series. I'm a fan. Faye is an African-American archaeologist who is married to a Native American. They're both great characters and I like their relationship. Their cases can be very interesting. This book sounds like the sort of eco-fiction that has been attracting my attention lately. Joyeuse, the island where Faye and her family live, has been poisoned. There are also murders.

Comments: I thought the perpetrator was over the top, but there were some great character moments for Faye and some other characters. There was also a sub-plot involving the American Civil War which I found interesting. Rating B+ See my review at http://wwwbookbabe.blogspot.com/2015/...

It actually was a really good month. There were several A rated books. I had to make a separate list for A rated mysteries because one of them dropped off my top ten to make way for The Uninvited which was amazingly good.

I need to get back to the Longchamps books. I've only read the first 2 and enjoyed both.
