Bin Userkaf Well, I didn't like it that much either, but it wasn't TOTALLY horrible. What part didn't you like?

Hannah I honestly loved these books, but I can understand if someone else did not. It's a personal preference sort of thing. The characters do make some really dumb, spontaneous decisions, sometimes in the name of their "love", but these are teenagers and young adults mostly and they are all human so they will naturally make mistakes

Christie Some parts I liked, but in general it wasn't for me. Some of the decisions didn't make sense to me and were kind of unbelievable considering the context. Sort of like what Hannah was getting at. I think the underlying themes drove the plot rather than the actual characters themselves, which sometimes resulted in those spontaneous decisions or out-of-character thoughts. In those places, a little more explanation or lead up of a characters' thought process would have smoothed everything out a bit.

Mariah I just did not enjoy how it was written and how the characters were. Its sad when I enjoyed the bad guy the most because he was the most interesting. The main character board me like no other and she made me feel crazy just reading what she was writing. It might be the fact that I listened to this book but it was getting to me how bad it was written. Though some people just love this series like no other and I just dont see it.

I really really disliked Shatter Me, mostly because of the writing which seemed sort of pretentious, but my stubborn self who always finishes something she starts, made me read the other two books. The second book was just a little better, but still disappointing. Nonetheless, I read the third as well and for me it was the best in the series. But I can confirm that the series overall definitely did not live up to my expectations considering how much people seem to love these books. Anyway I think it's a matter of personal taste.

Mariah Thank you I'm glad others feel my pain. The writing was just to much for me to handle. Maybe if I did not read as much and picked up that book randomly then I would of liked it more but I'm lucky to have made it threw the first book. More power to you!!!

Tracy I literally hated Juliette. By the end of Unravel Me I was asking (aloud) why she wouldn't just hurry up and die.

I agree! She just kept going on and on and on. I dont know how I finsished the whole book.

Rachel I hated how it was more of a romance than a dystopia, and I really wanted Juliette to die saving everyone. Surprisingly, the writing didn't bother me.

Purnima YES!!!!MEEEEEEEEE!!!! OMG I HATE THIS BOOK WITH A BURNING PASSION. First of all, these characters are the luckiest characters ever. The romance is only person who can touch her because he magically has the ability to do so. When escaping from Warren, he pulls out a really long rope to climb out of the building. WHAT THE HELL? WHERE IS THE WORLD WOULD YOU GET A ROPE LONG ENOUGH FOR A THREE STORY BUILDING??? Then, when they are escaping from Warren at the end of the book, they magically stumble upon a car with groceries and a key to make it work. The romance was sloppy totally insta-love. Honestly, I really don't care if they knew each other as a children. They never spoke. I know that theres a lot of hype for this book, but I dont understand it. I respect the people that love the book because we are all entitled to our own opinions but I hate it. I hate the writing (too much purple prose) and I hate the protagonist. I don't see her as a strong character; she seems really pretentious. Sorry for the long winded response. My rant is done.

I was so so happy to read your rant. It made me smile and laugh. Im glad someone else understands my pain. I thought it was just a all around horrible book. Even worse in my eyes because of all the hype it gets I thought it would be so good, but it was major let down instead. Thank you for you opinon :)

Blackbutterfly I don't hate it with burning passion but I distinctly remember skimming the last two books and chapters wherein I only read the dialogues. I think it has something to do with my frustration with Juliette and the writing style.

Bin Userkaf The first book was not the best, but nope, The last book is off the chain! Don't give up on it!

Hannah I see a lot of complaints over the writing style. I wouldn't want everything I read to be written that way, but for these books I really enjoyed the strange style. This story has a unique voice and the style helps you to get into Juliette's frayed mind.
Honestly I love these books more for how they are written and the "bad guy," because truly, the story line/plot does suck to some extent.

Genie i wrote a review for unravel me because if you could possibly believe it, it is actually worse than shatter me

that said, i am literally in awe of how bad shatter me was. i thought there was something messed up with my copy (i had an ebook version) but there wasn't. i have read a ton of bad books but this easily tops the list of the worst YA fiction i've ever read.

I listened to it on a audio book and thought it was skipping because it was saying the same thing over and over again.
