, do you think you can cut the jokes."

Okay Anamika.Maybe you'd be able to answer this one then. What's your least favourite character in LOTR and why?

message 252: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "The protagonist himself. He was really annoying me. I think you can understand what I mean by that."

Can you be more specific though? In what way was he annoying you?

message 253: by Howard (new) - rated it 5 stars

Howard G Torog!!

message 254: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Howard wrote: "Torog!!"

Torog was a bit of a rascal though. Like when he stole Gandalf's pipeweed and fed it to his horse!

message 255: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "Well, his actions. His age. In every way Tolkien has described him."

Didn't you even like the way he described his liking for cheese? I thought that was very well done.

message 256: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "No I didn't."

BINGO!!!

message 257: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "I don't know what you found out but I don't care."

I found out that it's usually a good idea to actually read a book before you decide to hate it.

message 258: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "Haha very funny. Just in case your wondering, I did read the book. Also, I didn't recall him expressing his love to cheese but it might be fun to play with you."

Really? I thought you didn't care?

message 259: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "Oh, forgive me for informing you something. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some reviews to write."

You don't want to play anymore? I'm wounded.

message 260: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "Sorry, maybe next time."

I'm sorry too. Had you been able to actually state why you dislike this book so, and in specific terms, I would have been more than happy to tell you why I love it. But it's plain that this isn't the purpose of your OP. Am I wrong?

message 261: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "I would prefer vice-versa."

I think I'm being fair. You tell me one, specific thing that you dislike about it (with actual character names, and/or plot references), and I'll tell you one thing I love about it.

message 262: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Anamika wrote: "The vice-versa. If not, forget it."

Okay, forgotten. What were we talking about?

message 263: by Duane (new)

Duane The slippery Space Fungus once again attempts to secret itself, one oozing pseudopod at a time, under a nearby rock formation!

But the intrepid Agent Tim is undeterred!! Using the specially designed Fungus Extraction Probe designed for him by the Special Research Section of the Federal Intergalactic Police, he deftly corrals the slithering Amanita Flatulensis as it tries to escape, first one way, then the other...

John (Taloni) Taloni On the Kevin Smith board (Viewaskew.com) the phrase "I'm doing research" was commonly used by trolls when called out. It got used so much, generally by people who went too far and wanted an easy out, that it became an in joke. So far as I know this was fairly common on the rest of the 'net ten years or so ago. So Anamika, whatever your actual purpose is, some people are going to be reminded of this particular dodge.

Renee E And rightly so.

You're not the only one. I used to think this thread was kind of amusing and entertaining in a trashy way, but now it's just kind of pathetic.

Snowdrop, Daughter of Apollo Anamika, you need to watch some MLP.

message 272: by Duane (last edited Oct 31, 2014 12:24AM) (new)

Duane Elentarri wrote: "(photo of terrestrial Fungicide redacted)"

Unfortunately, due to its extraterrestrial origin, the Amanita Flatulensis or "Space Fungus" is not affected by ordinary copper or zinc-based fungicide formulations.

However, in desperation the Intergalactic Police contracted with Degesch Corporation to develop "Agent Black" (Agent Orange's diabolical twin brother), which is in fact highly effective against the Space Fungus.

Post 375 above shows fearless, intrepid Intergalactic Police Lt. C. L. Spliff about to terminate an Amanita eruption, using a Glorrk canister projector (one of several means of weaponizing Agent Black).

Snowdrop, Daughter of Apollo Why are you ranting about space fungus?

message 274: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Snowdrop the White Tiger wrote: "Why are you ranting about space fungus?"

Because it's more productive than any 'discussion' with Amanika.

Elentarri Snowdrop the White Tiger wrote: "Why are you ranting about space fungus?"
Look up "Anamika" on the net.

Renee E Anamika wrote: "Thanks Renee, for reminding me about one of my favorite comics."

So, tell us, what makes it one of your favorite comics?

Snowdrop, Daughter of Apollo It's a TV show? That's not space fungus.

message 278: by Renee E (last edited Oct 31, 2014 06:10AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Renee E It should have been AMANITA, lol, not anamika, Snowdrop. It got tagged with that long ago.

I burst out laughing the first time I saw it and disturbed my poor Tallulah's nap.

Mike Arrr yea… Bilbo's story was a good read. the character matched the adventure Tolkien was writing. then in LOTR you have Frodo having the weight of the world on his shoulders, Jack in the Beanstalk meets the labors of Hercules: i couldn't get into it.

OH REALLy... YOu don't suppose THEY could be under attack by an Amanita Flatulensis, do you? The IIC (Intergalactic Intelligence Corps) suspects that Space Fungus spores may have drifted nearly anywhere... even elsewhere on this website -Like for instance,

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

IIC theorizes that the invading Space Fungus may be trying to collect enough intelligence to be able to create a the working deceptiform of a United States Senator (it wouldn't require a great deal); hence the "Research" of Terran glosses and memes

Courtney I don't hate it...but I do agree with you. I don't understand why it is worshipped so much. It was really quite boring for me. That was probably because it was so descriptive though. It would describe something and take up about a page in doing so. That was what bored me. Good plot though.

Renee E @John: Guess "you're being paranoid" was the next line in the sequence.

Renee E Nah, she's doing the same in several places. At least the people on this one aren't buying her BS and are calling her out.

Some of the *serious literature* people are completely lost.

I love that the fantasy thread has a far better grasp on reality than the Mockingbird thread. Oh, the irony.

message 287: by Duane (new)

Duane Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean the Space Fungus hasn't invaded the viewaskew.com boards!!

And God only knows where else.

How do we know it can't germinate inside of (JUST for insatance) an electronic voting machine??

message 289: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber To the occasional recent posters who are attempting to engage with the O.P. - she hasn't actually read LOTR and is simply trolling us all.

message 290: by Duane (new)

Duane YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE!!

I am informed on EXCELLENT authority that the IIC has a tracking beacon on your craft, and it has been
PHOTOGRAPHED by a Space Command droid!

Any electroforms you attempt to sporify within a radius of 300 parsecs will be WAITING for you!!!

message 291: by Renee E (last edited Nov 06, 2014 01:01PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Renee E Want to get an understanding of what people think of something?

Here's a GREAT example.

She's up front, no prevaricating, no lying, no baiting, no disingenuous bullshit, just straightforward, straight-up, no chicanery, here's what I'd like to know and this is why.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

And she's getting good feedback and gathering the answers she needed.

Honesty. It might take some practice since, from the behavior you've manifested we can only come to the conclusion that it's alien to your basic nature, but it's well worth a shot.

If, that is, you really do want to learn something and aren't just wanking around, trying to collect other people's opinions and words to use in those Spark Note *reviews*.

And BTW Amanita, This stupid WEbsite's "Profiles" only GO to 100 years. I am SEVERAL THOUSAND years old.

Which is why your pathetic attempt to cross Interstellar Space in Sporeform to Escape me

IS DOOOOOMED!!!!

John (Taloni) Taloni Wow, a Shadow ship from Babylon 5. Haven't seen one of those in a while!

Danielle Tremblay To be true, I hate all the Lord of the rings series and all other books that has something to do with it.

I began to read Lord of the rings years ago and I was so completely bored that I was surprised to see that so many people seem to love it. Then there were the movies and again the same phenomenon occurred.

However, I'm a reader of science fiction and fantasy. I devoured and loved a lot of books in these genres. But Tolkien ... sorry, but I'm not able to find any interest in his books.

message 299: by Tim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tim Webber Even Danielle's post confuses me. Being 'completely bored' as she 'began to read LOTR' strongly implies that she didn't finish it. And the surprise she felt also implies that she'd not read any other of Tolkien's works. If she had, and hated them, then why read LOTR, and why be surprised by the boredom? If she hadn't, then why go on to read them AFTER finishing LOTR, which she surely must have done to claim to hate 'all other books that has something to do with it'.

I apologise if I'm wrong with Danielle, but it seems that people are jumping on a bandwagon of hate, which is surely just as bad as loving the books just because lots of other people seem to do so?

Nichola St. Anthony I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was twelve years old and since then, it has always had a special place in my heart. If you don't get it, no one can explain it to you. "For those who believe, no evidence is necessary, for those who don't, no evidence is enough."
