Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) What are you reading this week?
Italian Folktales

-Have you heard a similar version to this fairytale told from a different culture?
Not that I can remember

-Do you think fairytales have an important role to play in each culture?
Yes. They can open your eyes to other ways of thinking and a lot of times they give hope to those that don't have much. They can also teach some good life lessons on how to act and treat others fairly.

Alexis (TheSlothReader) For this week, I listened to an audiobook for Arabian Nights. Some of the story elements, such as the lessons held within them, were actually similar to some fairytales I'd read before. I think that fairytales are very important to culture since they show an insight into history and the people of the time.

Barbara Pereira (babitix) | 983 comments Q: What are you reading this week?
A:
Momotaro: Peach Boy

Q: Have you heard a similar version to this fairytale told from a different culture?
A:
No, but I think I saw the pictures in another story or maybe a vdeo game story, I don't know...

Q: Do you think fairytales have an important role to play in each culture?
A:
Yes. I think it is very important, specially to introduce to our children the reading world. In Brazil we have a lot of fairytales from aboriginal brazilian culture (like Iara Mermaid, Saci Pererê, Mula Sem Cabeça, etc)

Zanzibar Tales Told by Natives of the East Coast of Africa by George W. Bateman (Zanzibar Tales: Told by Natives of the East Coast of Africa
Have you heard a similar version to this fairytale told from a different culture?
All the stories in this book can be related in some way to English stories.
Do you think fairytales have an important role to play in each culture?
They always hold some sort of message, and even if kids can't pick up on the message when they're younger, you're almost guaranteed to come back to the fairytales throughout your childhood.

Aine | 179 comments What are you reading this week?
Fearless girls, wise women & beloved sisters / Ragan

Have you heard a similar version to this fairytale told from a different culture?
It was a collection of fairytales. One of them, "I'm Tipingee, She's Tipingee, We're Tipingee, too" is reminiscent of "I'm Spartacus... no I'm Spartacus".

Do you think fairytales have an important role to play in each culture?
Absolutely, the early stories of any culture are vital to understand it. This book was about putting women at centre-stage. It was great to read these feminist tales.
