Section 3

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Chapters 11-15.

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling this for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Well things are ramping up/coming together. I suspect the people on station appreciate Breq a lot more now that they have met Anaander. Sorry I'm mutilating all of the spelling.

We learn more about the Presca gun. We see Breq trying to NOT access ship, which I miss.....and Breq does too :(.

And more funny and somewhat illuminating conversations with the translator.

Its all building up - I can't wait to see where it leads!

Lindsay | 546 comments Meanwhile, back on Athoek Station, serious changes are afoot. The media is flooded with anti-Breq propoganda and Anaander Mianaai is onboard. A media release showing a private meeting with the Station senior staff, some Sword of Gurat ancillaries and Anaander Mianaai shows Anaander murdering the head of station security when she won't threaten the peaceful citizen protest with armed guards. Anaander is unaware of the video and unaware that it's on repeat. Station is not Anaander's friend :)

Anaander institutes a station-wide curfew (to an already overcrowded station). Sword of Atagaris is being blackmailed into working for Anaander Mianaai with all of its officers being held hostage.

On Mercy of Kalr Tisarwat has an idea that Breq likes and she instructs the young lieutenant to make it happen. The plan involves her and Seivarden to travel to the station. Breq would like to go but her injury prevents it.

Also, Seivarden pulls her head out of her arse and finally apologizes to Ekalu.

When Seivarden and Tisarwat's squads head towards the station it becomes immediately obvious that something horrible has happened. The Garden is even more damaged than before, and it turns out that the Sword if Gurat has collided with a passenger shuttle killing all onboard the shuttle and forcing the Sword to dock with Station for repairs. This has not improved relations between Anaander and her troops and the Station residents.

Translator Zeiat tells Breq that Anaander's argument with herself has nothing to do with the Presger.

On board the station Tisarwat gets captured fairly quickly and puts on an impressive act of emotional distress, with ancillaries from Sword of Gurat taking her and her squad away. Seivarden breaks into the station administrator office and fails to assassinate Anaander Minaai, losing the Presger weapon in the process.

It should be noted that Anaander is seriously muddled when it comes to what Breq is and what her motivations might be, as well as who is actually opposing her. She doesn't believe any of the AIs of agency of their own. In fact, this Anaander appears far from balanced as she starts threatening Station and every one in it. Station argues back and gets a deal set up with Anaander for the safety of her people against the purchase of supplies for Anaander's fleet.

Not much to add here except that despite about 10 days away, I fell right back into it. Things are finally moving along, but I still don't see how she going to wrap this all up in 100 pages. Can't wait to find out though.

Oh, and station was awesome standing up to Anaander.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I REALLY liked the AI parts of the book.
