Megan (megabou) | 36 comments Hello everyone! I'm Megan, and I'm from southern Louisiana. I was a part of another group that did the Popsugar 2015 reading challenge. I have several books to go for the challenge this year, so I'm working hard to finish it. There is no word that my current group will be doing a challenge for next year. I highly doubt they would since participation has dropped (even by the mods), and many members said that they didn't want to do a challenge next year. I was one of them! I had been uncertain about it since I plan on taking two graduate courses next year, and I wanted to focus my time on my courses. However, I got so excited when looking at the challenge list, and I remember how much fun I had planning books to read. Plus, I can fit most of my TBR list into the challenge. Also, I realized yesterday that I won't be taking those two courses at the same time next year: one in early summer, and one in the fall. So, I plan on jumping ahead in this challenge in preparation for the time I'll be taking those classes.

Jean Cole (joc724) | 324 comments Hello all - I'm from Virginia and I also came over from the 2015 challenge. Love how we have people from all over the globe. And I especially love how this challenge introduces you to genres and authors you never would have discovered otherwise. I considered going "challenge free" this year but now that I've made my preliminary plan I can't wait to get started!

message 53: by Biana (new)

Biana Hi All! I'm Biana (pronounced like Bee-on-a-flower, just in case you wanted to know). I'm in Oregon where it rains enough that reading is a full time hobby!

I was lucky enough to stumble upon the previous group in December of the 2014 so I have read all 52 books, plus some extras cause I just can't stop. I got a couple fellow book lovers interested but they never followed through beyond the first month. (sad)

The best thing about the group wasn't that I had 52 books to read, but that it stretched my comfort zone. I read books that I never would have considered picking up with amazing and less than ideal results. I am willing to accept that challenge again!

I will not be making any list. No pre-planning. I'm just going to go where the wind blows.

Personal favorites include murder mysteries, absolutely. But nothing too gory, okay? And yeah, YA dystopian. I'm a complete sucker for supernatural as long as it's not too heavy...I guess I like to think that it could be possible, but only mingled with the real world that I'm currently residing in. Feel free to send me suggestions!!

Happy Reading Book Friends!

message 54: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments Hi everyone, I'm Aglaea from Finland. This is the first group on GR that I have joined, so it is all new to me. I just stumbled upon the 2015 group and followed the link to this one, thought the list looked exciting and here I am introducing myself.

This year has been rather full of chick lit, romance, erotica and dystopia, but I have many other categories on the TBR shelf, and for some reason the 52 topics seem quite suitable to start chipping away on the TBR list.

I'm jumping in with the idea that it should be fun and that rules can be broken, and also life happens, but other than that I'm inspired to start plotting how to read with intention.

Happy reading!

I love this approach! Meh, let's start with a mini plan and just see what happens. There was a children's show here in the US called Magic School Bus and it was about exploring and seeing science in action. The teacher used to say "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy"...which I love. Sounds kind of like your "rules can be broken" comment.

Whatever happens...you will have fun, I'm sure of it!

message 56: by Sinéad (new)

Sinéad O'Brien (sinead89) Hi All! I'm Sinead, from Toronto, ON. It's my first year doing this challenge but I'm excited and intrigued by the premise.

My favourite genres are Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic and CanLit, but I'll read anything that sounds really interesting.

I'm excited to get started!

message 57: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 8 comments Hello! My name is Charlotte and I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. I haven't been involved in a reading challenge before, but have a list ready to go and can't wait to start it! I read a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction. I try to read a good number of Canadian authors and about 50% women authors in any given year. I'm looking forward to using the challenges to explore new genres and books that I've been meaning to read for quite some time while also being flexible!

Aretha Flakes | 5 comments Hello, I'm Aretha. I live in Florida, U.S.A. I'm a bit reserved, but will try to participate in the group. I thank you for having me. I just love to read. Although I choose books at random, I noticed that in 2015 I have covered most of the group's challenge and I am quite sure it will be the same in 2016. I started this year's challenge at 52 and I have changed it 3 or 4 times. Currently, I'm at 85 of 90. I look forward to the upcoming year's challenge!

message 61: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (teff1979) Hello, I am new to this group, I enjoy reading with the little time that I have. I hope that I can fill full this challenge as I try to take part in others as well.

I am a children's librarian in a public library.

Lieke | 697 comments Hi, my name is Lieke and I'm from The Netherlands.
I was a member of the old group but I wasn't very active there. Will try to be more active in 2016 and get my TBR lower :)

Sam F | 82 comments Hi I'm Sam F from Canada - I love the idea of a reading challenge. I'm not sure if I'll always be able to finish a book each week, but I'm keen to try. It'll help me to decide what to read from my shelves. Thanks for putting this together!

That's okay. Just read what you can and have fun with it :)
Welcome to the group!

message 65: by Beth (new)

Beth | 146 comments Hi, I'm Beth from Seattle, WA in the U.S. I did the 2015 challenge with another group and I have really enjoyed it. While I did not finish all 52 books (I'm hoping to finish ~40 by the end of the year), I loved that the challenge encouraged me to seek out books I might not have found otherwise. I also enjoyed having that community to interact with.

The prompts for this group are interesting and I've been enjoying putting together ideas for the new year. I like that there are some flexible prompts (not that I'm above loosely interpreting a prompt to slot in a book I want to read!) and I also love all the suggestions. I am trying create a very diverse booklist for the year: diverse genres, lots of books by women, people of color, people from other countries and with experiences different to my own.

Thanks for putting this together! :)

message 66: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Glad you found us, Beth! We're a very diverse group and I can honestly say we're one of the best I've ever been in on GoodReads. Everyone is very warm and welcoming.

I see you have posted a plan in the 2016 Plans folder! Can't wait to see what you've selected.

message 67: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Brady | 69 comments Hi I'm Amanda and I'm a NYer living in California. I just found this group and I'm really looking forward to this challenge. I am only on my 16th book of 2015 so hopefully I can keep up in 2016!

Besides reading I like to run, workout and I coach high school field hockey.

My favorite genre is historical fiction. I'm currently reading The Book of Speculation.

So far so good. I'm only about 70 pages in but I'm enjoying it.

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments Hi everyone! I'm Veronica from California and I'm also from the 2015 challenge. Although u most likely won't complete this here's challenge, I'm looking forward to starting the 2016 challenge and hopefully finish it. I've enjoyed the discussions and posts in 2015, though I have not been very active. Hopefully that will change.

message 71: by Katy (new)

Katy | 12 comments Hi everyone I'm Katy. I live in Washington DC and hope to be in Denver by the time this challenge is done ;)

I love anything to do with the outdoors especially mountain biking. I love to read but for some reason will go months without finishing a book because I got too "busy". I hope this challenge will introduce me to new books and friends! Happy reading :)

message 72: by Fatemeh (new)

Fatemeh (alexxy) | 96 comments Hi everyone! I'm Alex and I'm from Iran. I just found the 2015 challenge group and considering that the year is almost over, I decided to join this one.
I plan to read a lot of books in 2016 and hopefully, this group will help me a lot.

Sarah Hi, I'm Sarah from Iowa. I just joined GoodReads and really excited about 52 books in 2016. I'm a pastor, so some of my books that I'll be reading will be work-related - but most will probably be young adult fiction, fantasy, and romance!

Hi, Sarah-from-Iowa! I'm Angie-from-Iowa! :)

I did the pop sugar challenge for 2015, and have 2 1/2 books left to do to get to 52. I didn't think I was going to make it, but I feel so accomplished! I can't wait to do another 52 in 2016, and I'm super excited about some of the books on my list!

message 75: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments Welcome all you Iowans and Iranians and everyone else! So glad you're all joining us! If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times - this is a great group and I can't wait to get to know you all better! :)

My first native tongue is Swedish, second is Finnish. I read mostly in English. I have only read 17 books so far this year... I've been a really slow reader this year. I'm excited about this group!

message 78: by Therese (new)

Therese Brink HI, I am Terri. I have lots of books on my list, and I am hoping to make a dent in my to be read books.

My favorite genres are science fiction and non-fiction, especially books concerning the environment and animals.

message 79: by Louise (new)

Louise Hi, I'm Louise from South Wales. I enjoy reading and my TBR looks like a mini Matterhorn. My goal for 2016 is to make a large dent in my TBR

message 80: by Rachel (new)

message 85: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments Hi evyerone! My name is Brianna and am excited to join this challenge! I love to read and am always looking for ways to challenge how much and what I read. I love photography, my animals, and sudoku.
My favorite genres tend to be young adult, mystery, and contemporary new adult.

message 86: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaelfil) Hi, I'm Michael! I'm a Canadian currently living and teaching in South Korea. I set a goal of reading 52 books last year, but it looks like I'm going to fall short by about 15 books. I decided to try this group to have a more structured list of books.

I've recently become interested in nonfiction books about identity, race, cognitive processes, and history. I also like to read historical fiction and coming-of-age novels.

I hope to read a book in a language other than English this coming year; in either Spanish, French, or Russian.

message 87: by Joy (last edited Dec 15, 2015 06:13AM) (new)

Joy | 100 comments Hi Michael. Welcome! What do you teach? I teach English at a community college in Pennsylvania, USA. I read some young adult books in Spanish when I was working on my language skills a couple years ago. It was a great experience.

message 88: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaelfil) Joy wrote: "Hi Michael. Welcome! What do you teach? I teach English at a community college in Pennsylvania, USA. I read some young adult books in Spanish when I was working on my language skills a couple years..."

Hi, Joy! I teach ESL, TOEFL prep, and debate at a private academy (ages 6-15). How was your Spanish at the time? I'm worried that the language in anything beyond a children's book will be prohibitively advanced.

message 89: by Joy (new)

Joy | 100 comments My Spanish was mediocre, and I had to use my dictionary and sometimes the English version of the book, but I found it got easier as I went along. I read books that were very familiar - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; My Side of the Mountain; and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

message 90: by Ellana (new)

Ellana Thornton-Wheybrew (ellanarosetw) Hi all, I'm Ellana. I run a monthly book club, but I'm hoping to expand my reading journey into genres I've not come across before. I didn't know this existed until I saw it on the group page!

I love reading, Netflixing, crochet and other crafts, and writing. I also enjoy gaming (I run a Dungeons and Dragons group, and I'm in a group that streams on Twitch), chocolate, academia, and makeup.

I can't wait to join you all ^_^
Hugs and love

Robin | 5 comments Hello, my name is Robin. I live in the country by a little bitty town called Wann (pronounced Juan) Oklahoma. This looks like so much fun! I love to read and will read almost anything!

message 92: by Pat (new)

Pat | 1 comments Hi! My name is Pat. I live in Florida, USA. I have been avid reader since I was a child. I am a retired legal secretary. I have 5 children. Hobbies are needlework of all kinds, cooking, making jewelry and rosaries. I teach religion. Reading is the first and foremost hobby, of course. I like romances, classics, nonfiction, mysteries, suspense, thrillers, paranormal, just too many genres to read. I look forward to this challenge, though I may not follow it in order.

message 93: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Hi! I'm Holly. I'm excited to join this group for next year. I just finished grad school and am trying to find something to occupy my need for educational stimulation.

Favorite genres are historical fiction, YA lit, and (when of need of a quick fun read) romance.

Can't wait to join. One question for those who have been here before, for the A-Z challenge do we have to read them in ABC order, hop around, or pick a letter and go in order from there?

Thanks!

message 94: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments Welcome all, I'm looking forward to all the bookish discussions :)

Holly > Usually the A-Z is not done in order.

Holly | 58 comments Thanks! That helps so much! Can't wait to start the new year (after I finish Go Set a Watchman)

Joy | 100 comments Welcome, Holly! My local book club is reading Go Set a Watchman this month. What do you think?

message 97: by Holly (new)

Holly | 58 comments Joy, it's good. Not my favorite but it's good. Don't go into it thinking it's just like To Kill a Mockingbird or a continuation. It's written very differently in my opinion.

message 98: by Alisa (new)

Alisa | 32 comments Hi. I'm Alisa from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I'm looking forward to reading new books than I normally read.

message 99: by Clare (new)

Clare (-clare-) | 115 comments I will be jumping around which means that if I understand the rules correctly means that I'm going to have a hard if not impossible time joining in most of the discussions if I can't post about books that I'm reading that are more than 3 weeks ahead of your plan. My first book will be week 29 for everyone sticking to the plan.
