Rosina | 1 comments Hi everyone....I am Rosina and I live outside of Calgary Alberta...I think i found this group earlier this year but lately decided to challenge myself to try the challenge for 2022.

I read all genres...but my favorite is historical fiction and I dont limit myself to just a certain time period...I will admit I am terrible with planning out books and sticking to the plan....I am an impulsive reader...whatever grabs my attention I will start to read...I am hoping that by being involved in the weekly discussions i will stay with the challenge for the whole year...My current read is Hamnet...I had put it down a couple times this year but recently started again a few days ago and am so enjoying the writing.....

I have a busy life...I work in accounting and sometimes my only sanity is getting time to read daily...i am married with 3 step children and 8 grandkids...My husband is retiring the end of January so life will change for us...just wish I could retire as well when he does...thankfully i work from home so no more daily commute into the city....winter driving can be so brutal at times here on the prairies....

Thats it for now....looking forward to discussing books and meeting new people....

Joyce (eternity21) | 65 comments Hello my name is Joyce I am an ex-native New Yorker living in Southeast Florida. I have been lurking here and there and decided to start the 52 week challenge in 2022. I love paranormal books in particular. I love a lot of genres as well. Mystery, Sci-Fi, Urban Fantasy are probably the favorites. I listen to a lot of audiobooks as I can do other things at the same time as reading. As well as reading I enjoy crocheting and knitting. I have been out of work for the past year so I have had lots of time to read which is why my original goal of 100 books had to change to 150 which I will complete.

Welcome, Joyce! This is a great time to join. I also love audiobooks and I do crocheting and knitting. 150 books is very impressive!

charlene ✿ (decodethebooks) Hello I am Charlene! I am 25 and from Australia.
I am excited to try the 52 week challenge in 2022. I read mostly fantasy and scifi but I have been trying to expand my reading next year. I saw a listopia for this group and I was hooked!

Tracy | 2978 comments Hi Everyone! I’m Tracy from Santa Barbara, California. I’m new to this group, but I participated in a similar group in 2021. I decided to try this group for 2022 because I liked that fact that the group voted on the prompts rather than just the moderators deciding — seems like a better way to end up with richer more varied ideas.

I’ve been a reader all my life, and belong to two IRL book groups, but my reading didn’t really pick up until Covid hit. Reading, and the fact the fact I could download Kindle books from my library, really kept me sane — especially during that first year. But now the amount I read each year has picked up quite a bit (62 books so far this year, but I expect to get to at least 65, if not more). And even better, my husband has finally become a reader. He went from 1-2 books/year to at least 10 this year. His problem is finding the right book because he has very particular tastes.

Can’t wait to get started on my 2022 choices! I have at least one book picked out for most prompts. Not sure how I’ll decide which is THE book when I get to the multiple options prompts…

Sheila (sel123) | 19 comments Hello, this will be the first year that I attempt the ATY challenge. The prompts sound like so much fun. I will be keeping things simple by filling in the challenge as I finish my reads. I'm loving going through the suggestions being made.

Welcome, sel! This is a fun group with a flexible attitude toward our challenges. Feel free to join the Winter Seasonal Challenge that just started, and watching for our Read-a-thon coming up later this month.

Allison Dagli (adagli) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I’m allison and I’m so excited to have found this group I can’t wait to connect with other readers. I have found myself reading very similar books so I thought this would be a good way to bring some variety to my reading!

EILEEN | 28 comments Hi! I'm Eileen from Maine. I love the ATY Challenge. 2022 will be my 3rd year participating. I love to find the BEST matches for the prompts each week. I keep a Google Doc with the list & live-link each prompt to several book choices. I LOVE the system!
Does anyone know when the 2022 community spreadsheet will be posted?

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
If you go to the Community Spreadsheet, you can look at the tabs along the bottom of the sheet. You should see "2022 (A-F)" and you can claim your spot on that one!

Meg (megscl) | 132 comments Hi all. I joined this group a few years ago. I started the challenge but never finished it. Hopefully this time I'll commit! I'm planning to read the prompts in order, one book a week. Do many people do it that way?

message 874: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Hey Meg! I'm reading in order next year as well! I'll start a thread and we can all chat about the books we are reading!

message 875: by Lori (new)

Lori | 6 comments Hi everyone. I'm new to the group and plan on doing the 2022 challenge. So, trying to figure out all the prompts and everything. I think taking on a challenge really encourages me to read more books. It also introduces authors and books that I never would have thought of reading otherwise. I'm looking forward to 2022!

Welcome, Virginia! We’ve got a good amount of educators in here. I’m a former HS English teacher and current MS school counselor in Jersey. Middle school is such an adventure!

Also, Steve, I didn’t know you were a school counselor. I just moved into a college counseling role in addition to teaching at my high school (so not social-emotional, unless you count kids crying over college acceptances, which then yes lol).

Hmm, what is ELA? English & Language Arts?

Many years back I taught French in high school but before that I substituted in middle school in various subjects, mostly English. My original plan was to be a college professor of French but there were way too many applicants for every position and it's only gotten worse since then. I had an unrelated career in sales support/tech support/customer service, until my last job where I worked with people in Quebec and got to use my French.

Yup! This is year 6 as a counselor after 8 years as an 11th grade English teacher. College counseling is the one aspect I’m sad I don’t get in middle school! 90% of middle school counseling is social-emotional haha.

Thank you! It was definitely a challenge in the last almost two years now. As a counselor, kids weren’t exactly lining up to talk to me over Google Meet! The bulk of my job was emailing families to find out where their kid was. Now we’re back to virtual to start January, but I’m on paternity leave now so don’t need to worry About it fortunately.

I read your reply while eating a big ole bowl of gumbo this evening. Unfortunately, we lost our little cold snap we were having there for a few days. It was in the 70's again today. I am near Alexandria but from Avoyelles. I can even make my own roux. haha

I cooked a gumbo this week as well! I'm in the Lafayette area!

Steve, our school is still in person because the teachers are able to be present, for the most part. But we have about 1/3 of our student body out sick or quarantined so we are still hybrid with those kids at school... it's a challenge!

message 892: by Claire (new)

Claire (cacollins101) | 8 comments Hi… I am Claire C. In Wayzata, MN. I have tried to be a part of this reading challenge for a few years and am trying again this year. The reason I quit is because I do not find the site user friendly.

For example, it does not allow me to copy and paste the 2022 prompts list onto my 2022 plan sheet.

I also cannot add my name and books read to the Community Worksheet. I am not a computer novice, but I’ve tried a lot of different ways to complete these tasks but remain unable to enter information. I am using my iPhone 12 Pro.

Please help. Thank you 😊

Hi Claire! I can’t think of any reason you wouldn’t be able to copy and paste the list off the spreadsheet to your own or edit the spreadsheet itself to add yourself from your iPhone. I can do both tasks on my iPhone 11.

Are you using the Google Sheets app or just editing it directly in the Safari browser or something else all together? Either way, you should be able to highlight them to copy and paste and edit the open cells on the spreadsheet.

Just to be clear: this is the sheet you’re trying to edit, right? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... Just want to make sure you’re not trying to edit a locked version from a previous iteration of the challenge.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Hey Claire! Feel free to private message me and we can troubleshoot the spreadsheet! It should be available to type into, though I think you need to do it from the Google Sheets app.

message 896: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2873 comments Claire, just checking that you are trying to copy and paste on your phone’s web browser instead of the GR’s app. The app does not allow coping and pasting or editing. The app is quite lacking and problematic.
