Welcome!
Welcome!

Hi, my name is Robin and I live in Wisconsin. I have been on Goodreads since about 2012 and have participated in challenges from Pop Sugar, ReadHarder and other groups. One was reading a book published in each year of my life (challenging as I was already over 60 years old!) But instead of being happy to try new things, I felt I was reading books I didn't really care for and not making a dent in my large TBR pile. So a couple years ago, I quit all the challenges and cut back on my general one for Goodreads.
However, in this group, it seems like the challenges are flexible and fun enough that I can make almost anything work. I have been reading about 100 books a year, so I will have flexibility with which ones I choose for the prompts.
I enjoy classics, historical fiction, mysteries, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, - almost anything except horror, zombies or serial killers. And I can NOT read any more books about Nazis. I do read some nonfiction, generally in the fields of history, psychology, education, or women's studies.
I am really impressed with the international nature of this group and a big range of ages and backgrounds. I am delighted to see others read in French, as do I. I am a moderator in a GR classics group called The Readers Review which reads books from 1750-1920. I also belong to an in-person mystery book club at my local library.
I have been retired a little over a year. I enjoy needlework, Scrabble and other word games. I love audiobooks, because now I can "read" while driving, washing dishes, or as today, shoveling snow.

Welcome Robin! Yes, we come in all shapes and sizes and languages in this group, and we are pretty flexible. I'm trying to read more classics (always... it's a struggle) so your expertise will be appreciated in this group!
Welcome to the group Robin! We have similar reading tastes, except I am a sucker for zombie books lol :)

Welcome Kendra! It's never too late to join! Glad you were able to attribute your books already read to prompts... you're almost done with the challenge already!

Hi Kendra! I joined toward the end of January myself, and I never considered reading in order. I like the freedom of this group to interpret and use prompts in a way that works for you. Some people do the prompts in order but what you have done is also perfect, slotting your books read into whatever prompt fits.

You can absolutely count any books you have already read this year. Feel free to post your challenge list here and join in on some of group conversations to get to know everyone! Welcome to ATY!

Welcome to the group Matthew!

My name is Dori, I'm from Hungary but I live in the UK. I mostly read in English now but I also make an effort to read in my mother tongue ever so often.
I've only found this group and the challenger very recently, I'm still working on my plan which keeps changing. I absolutely love the challenge, it encourages me to think out of the box, to read more books and to explore new topics/genres/authors. Not to mention that it is a much needed distraction during lockdown :-)

It's not too late to join this year's challenge by assigning books you have already read to the various prompts. Also the Summer Challenge is just beginning.

Ok maybe I'll take a look and see if I can assign what I have read this year.
Thanks

I usually read e-books when commuting/out in the world and physical books when at home, but 2020 being the year of the pandemic somewhat altered that. I have, for a while, been looking for something to help me break away from the constant chronological purchase order of my book reading habit, and when I saw this group and the 2021 topics, I thought "I wonder if I can find something for each of the topics from my TBR that I already own?"
And, with only 2 exceptions, I could! So I decided to join and give it a whirl. With the pandemic reaching into 2021, I won't be back at work full time until the second quarter of next year at the earliest so I will likely pack a lot of reading into the first 3 months :-)

Hi Jess! I would definitely recommend making a plan in our 2021 planning folder, and grabbing a spot on the community spreadsheet when we open up the 2021 tabs. Both are great ways to track what you've read for the challenge and see what other people are reading for inspiration.

I like many of the rejected prompts too! I saw something about a Reject Challenge. Can someone advise me where this is or how to do it?
Also, I saw the BIO options and I'm wondering how to record those when I'm done.
Thanks!
Hi Nancyj! Welcome!
For the rejects challenge, you can choose the prompts that stand out to you or the ones you think would add to your overall challenge well (or you can just read books you want to read then slot them in the rejects prompts after). It's totally up to you! Most people include their rejects challenge either with their 2021 Plan thread for the main challenge (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...) or they create a new thread for just the rejects challenge in our Outside Challenges folder (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...).
For the BIO and KIS list, it's just a different way of looking at the main ATY challenge prompts. You could record that you did a BIO challenge on your Plan thread (for example, next year for the love story prompt, I'm putting a BIO of it being an LGBTQIA+ love story, so I included that stipulation on my 2021 Plan thread).

Welcome! Don't worry too much about trying to keep up to a specific pace, just read at your own speed. We'll cheer you on!

My favorite book genres are Mystery-Thriller-Suspense, but I am willing to read anything.
I am a slow reader, so I'll be pleased if I can complete one book per month. I work a 12-hr, rotating swing shift, so time to read is somewhat sporadic, but I will try my best!

I participated last year, but didn't fill in my reads until very late in the year...This time, I vow to do better and keep up with entering my reads.

My name is Jim Townsend and I'm a 57-year-old married man from New Jersey near Philadelphia, PA. I'm not sure how I discovered this group; I joined it the other day after tapping around messages in other groups I'm in, and am intrigued by some of the challenges. I wonder if I am too late to participate in the main ATY 52 books challenge.
I read an average of about 40-50 books a year in nearly all genres, but my favorite genres are nonfiction, classics, mystery/thriller, and science fiction/fantasy.
Looking forward to meeting all of you and participating in the group.
